Why can't we send ourselves money yet???

So the Reading comprehension thing... maybe you should try it out bud.

I don't come here to put others down like some folks.
I'm going to address your comments out of order.

First. What I have done in this thread is explain what the devs have told us, and given examples of some of the things they have done in game to back up what they have told us.

This is where you are having problems comprehending things. You see discussing what the devs have said and done is not the same thing as voicing an opinion.

At no point in this thread have I voiced my opinion on global banks. Perfect_Pains question did not require my opinion. She asked for an explanation as to why the feature hasn't been added yet.

Second. I did not question your ability to read. I questioned your ability to comrehend what you are reading. Those are two distinctly seperate issues.

Lastly, is this really the best you can do? Trying to stir up drama by implying that I'm angry with you and somehow insulte?

Why don't you try sending me some anonymous negative rep. That might help you feel better.

When CoH had no economy or crafting system I could see it. Those days are over. The Devs added an economy and loot. In for a penny, in for a pound.
CO doesn't have a global bank. So that makes two superhero MMO's that don't have this feature.

Yes they did raise it but if you look at when they raised it (issue 9) it seems more likely that it was raised so people could directly trade inf for invention salvage/recipes rather than going through the market. After all the previous cap was 99,999 correct? Imagine trying to trade someone 1 million inf for a piece of rare salvage that they have on them, it would have been rather irritating and thats far from the highest prices of anything on the markets.

That said it is also called "the trade menu"

Trade: turn in as payment or part payment for a purchase

I just grabbed one, but I didn't notice any part of the definitions of trade that seemed to indicate one person getting something without giving something in return.

Not saying that a global bank or anything of the sort could never happen or that it isn't on the devs minds. Just saying that there also isn't any evidence that it has been or is being considered.

*sigh*

Yet another example of your failing to comprehend what was posted. At no point in my response did I imply that the second quote was something you posted. In fact it clearly shows I was quoting the OP in the preceding statement.

There are no rules on the forums that states when quoting someone you cannot provide a clarifying statement to explain what you are quoting and why.

Your attempt to deliberately misinterpret the quote has failed miserably.

Oh and by the way, I have no interest in reading any PM's you send me. I will continue to delete them unread. If you can't say it in an open forum you're wasting your time.

Accually, Forbin, I was trying to send up a white flag so to speak in the form of a PM. But it would seem that as the Forums "internet tough guy" you want to be confrontational. Good for you...

...one wonders if you have that sort of brass in real life... I quite doubt it.

W/E

Had you read my pm you would have said something else I'm sure, but after this my repect for you has gone the way of the dodo. I don't feel that you deserve the respect of me retyping it here so, have a good one...

FYI: I don't need to be civil to you if I have tried and you ignored me...

ROFL!

You deliberately misinterpret my posts, throw out insults with a holier than thou attitude, and accuse me of being confrontational, but expect me to believe that at the same time in private you were offering an olive branch.

I believe there's a term for people that say one thing in public and another in private. Two-faced I believe.

I'd have asked this over in the player help area or some forum area but it seems very appropriate at this point in this thread so here it goes:

How do you ignore someone on these new forums?

Click on the name of the person you wish to ignore, select View Public Profile.
Once that page loads, select the User Lists drop down menu and in there the Add to Ignore List option.

Indeed. I'd like to see this system implemented.

I can only think of one reason why not right now that has not bemm mentioned.

E-mail Spam.

Do you know how many E-mail I get after one day of not logging in. Whenever I log in, I just press delete 20-50 times just to clean out the E-mail box from RMT (Real Money Traders). I can imagine the following scenario :

1) Log into character and and see lots of SPAM on Inbox.

2) Not bother reading, I delete all the E-mail. 1 of them was an influence transfer.

If one was an influence E-mail, I would have lost millions of influence by not reading the E-mail. Then we would gripe more for losing influence whether it came from myself or even a friend. Even if there is a feature many of us would like to have, there would always be flaws.

1. If you are worried about having a lot of spam in a characters inbox, you could easily log onto the character you want to send influence to, and clear out the inbox before sending email to it.

2. You should be able to recognize your own character name since that is what appears in the "From:" field.

3. If you can't recognize the names of your own characters, you can choose a unique subject title for your emails so you don't accidentally delete it.

The devs/GM's don't compensate people for making stupid mistakes. They don't do anything for people that screw up at the market and bid more than they intended on something.

And back when the 60 day rule deleted anything left in the market unattended for sixty days they didn't reimburse people when they came here crying that they didn't know the rules.

Good point but the new email features are gonna fix that I think. fatigue is hindering me from performing proper search-fu...

...then this would seem to be just a hop, skip and jump away.

Hopefully

I...agree with PP. We should be able to mail Inf and ALL tradeable items to any other character on the same faction on ANY server, including our own characters. Make it institute a fee so we aren't evading the AH fees.

I think we should consider the word "email" in this thread to be a metaphor or example. The point is that there needs to be a reliable, in-game way to transfer funds/resources to characters who are currently offline. Who's character (your own or someone else) and the specific method are both irrelevant to the discussion of "do we need". If we can come to an agreement that it would be nice to have, then we could discuss options.

I think the market has already spoken. By that I mean most MMOs already have this type of mechanism. Even NCsoft's latest, Aion, has a means to transfer items between characters. I know the fact that other games have it doesn't make it inherently the right thing to do, but it clearly invalidates the argument that having it would ruin the game.

Fixing that stupid rule was one of the best things they've done recently.

Why yes, I did lose billions on the market when work/life took over my gaming time for a few months.

I'm a one-game-man so I wasn't aware the feature was so widespread. I'm glad to hear it is, though, because it really seems to me to be a no-brainer. That's just me, though, I guess.

And I agree with both the point you're explicitly making (about the "ruin the game" argument) and the point I'm inferring (that the market shows that it's past time to discuss "if" and now time to discuss "how").

As to the how, I really don't think the email system is the way to go. As was said, by you IIRC, the cross-over spam thing would be a real pain. I suppose friends could be set for it, but that would require advance notice and would disallow general gifting.

I think a non-text, email-like system would work: pick a character, send a gift. A global tell would explain it fine and that way it wouldn't give spammers an email work-around.

I haven't given it nearly enough thought, however, so I'm going to let it simmer before voicing further.

I agree. I was very happy to see it changed.

The point I was making tho was that they didn't cut any of us any slack when we lost things in the past (and if they were going to cut people slack it should have been over that rule), so if they did allow us to send stuff via "email" they certainly wouldn't start caring if we deleted it without reading it.

The emails we get don't automatically delete. We have to clean them out ourselves. So we would have no one to blame but ourselves if we carelessly discarded everything without looking at it.

Especially since the feature we are discussing is one where we would be sending ourselves the email. We would know there would be an influence transfer in the characters inbox so blindly deleting everything would be the stupidest thing to do.

I have my fingers crossed about "Going Rogue". In my eyes allowing crossovers removes the last impediment that might prevent a global bank. They can't claim that the factions are seperate on an account if characters can cross back and forth and take their wealth with them. Heck merging the red and blue markets shouldn't even be an issue then. Heroes crossing over will be bringing a ton of cash with them.

A GB could even be a feature to encourage sales of GR. The people that buy it get access to a global bank.

We don't really know if you can bring your inf with you when you cross over, do we? Has any dev confirmed that? If they did, that's as good as admitting the currencies (and markets) will be merged. It makes sense to me, but I could imagine them saying "when you cross over you lose all your inf." Which would royally suck, but I could see it happening.

IMO, it would be a very bad decision to have you lose all your inf in order to cross over.

"Bad" here meaning "sucks for the player."

The original concept of Influence and Infamy has been completely tossed in the trash with the way inf is utilized in the game today.

It's money now. Not influence. As it is money, my character should have a bank to store it. As I can give access to my bank account to anyone I choose, so too should said bank be global for my account.

In said global bank account I should be able to store the following:
Influence/Infamy
Recipes
Enhancements
Inspirations
Merits of any type

The game play reason?

My main "hero" is the younger brother of my main "villain." They share a common goal and work at it from the two different sides. As they share a common goal, they would aid each other as they could financially.

Having a shared bank account would make perfect sense for them.

So. Why can't we send money to ourselves yet? Because the devs haven't added that functionality. Should they? Absolutely.

Be well, people of CoH.

If they did that I think it would tick off a huge portion of the playerbase, which would hurt the sales of GR and instigate rash of cancelled subs.

The smart way to do it would be to handle a crossover similar to a server transfer. You only take what's carried by the character with you. Everything else you lose. (I don't see them allowing co-op SG's because not everyone may buy GR)

Bill, I just had to chime in here and say that I notice you have been on the forums since Feb of '05. If we assume that means Feb 1 of '05 and we count through all of today, that means you've been able to post for 1668 days. You have 26,442 posts. If we assume you've posted every single day since you registered with the forum (which I highly doubt), that means you've averaged 15.85 posts per day. Even if we assume an average post is 20 words (which is pretty small but smooths things out for posts like "/signed" and such) and an average word is 5 characters (which is the standard for typing tests) that's 1585 words per day. According to a question asked in the New York Times, the average newspaper article length, at least for that institution, is 1200 words.

I'm going to hazard a guess and say that a regular, amateur columnist would earn an average fee for each article of about $10 (much more for a few, much less or nothing for most). That means you've written almost 530,000 words and done over $16,680 worth of work for the city of heroes forums over the last 4 years or so. And you likely haven't been paid or even offered a dime.

I think too much.

Robin
