You need to input some sort of payment information to confirm that you are eligible to pay for the service.

Any credit card works, including a Visa/etc. gift card. Time cards work. Game cards work.

You won't be charged. You are just proving that you are eligible, basically. You can remove the credit card immediately after applying it if you don't want to be charged in the future when your free time runs out.

PS; this is players helping players. NCsoft assistance is through their website,

FYI, this is standard practice for MMOs ( The pay to play ones, at least ).

Seconded. You enter the info so they can bill you when your first month ends, but they won't charge you until your first 30 days are over. If you decide you don't like the game, you can log into your account and deactivate it before the billing date comes due and you won't get charged at all. (Provided you didn't try to time it down to the hour. I'd give at least 24 hours to be safe.)

Note: I thought it was silly to pay a monthly fee and figured I'd cancel my subscription after my first 30 days. That was 5 years ago.

I felt the same way when an ex step-dad talked me into trying out Everquest back on 2000. I've been playing MMOs ever since. I've had good times, made some good friends, even met a ( now ex-) girlfriend through MMOs. No matter what the /b/ rejects spout, MMOs are just as valid a social gathering as any other.

There used to be no end to the crap I gave a friend about paying a monthly fee to play EverQuest. I couldn't understand how someone would be willing to pay so much, so often, on a constant basis, just to play a game! I mean, who does that?

Usually, the topic would come up in conversation over a game of Magic: The Gathering.

FUN FACT: That burst of light when you level up is actually the effectiveness escaping from your enhancements all at once.

Since no one else has said it yet, welcome to the City of Heroes.

Ironic.

(I eventually got over my Cardboard Crack™ habit.... but the many boxes of cards on the back shelf are testament to how much I blew on that game.)

Not that I expect you to encounter any difficulties but :

If you end up paying with a credit card, make sure to make a note someone of the last four digits of the first card NCSoft charges (so if you use a card to activate your account, then change it before it's actually billed, you want the second card).

If you pay first with time or game card (different, but both can add paid time) keep that card or write it's whole number down.

If you someone loose your account info, they will ask for those numbers from your first billing to confirm your identity.

I don't have a credit card, and pay for the subscription with gift cards I get at the post office.

Not the greatest for identification, but also handy for transactions you don't want traced.
