How much does it take to be "rich" these days?
Being rich is a state of mind. When you can afford to help/give away stuff to friends without anything in return, you're rich.
When you can afford to do that for complete strangers, you're stinking rich. |
Bonus points if you put together entire builds for them.
Beyond that, I'd say having a billion or three anymore doesn't make you anywhere near rich. Considering there are mulitple IO's that sell for a Billion or more a piece and a sets of six you'll likely pay at least a billion for (Purps, PvP IO's) you probably need 10 Billion in either influence or stored IO's to be well off.
I'd consider myself financially well-off if I had enough inf on hand to complete the IO builds for every one of the characters I'm currently working on. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll ever have that much inf on me at one time, so I'm working in 4 or 5 billion inf chunks, getting 2-4 builds out of the way and then building back up.
"One day we all may see each other elsewhere. In Tyria, in Azeroth. We may pass each other and never know it. And that's sad. But if nothing else, we'll still have Rhode Island."
I have a level 26 dominator that had been languishing at around 125k inf for the longest time. On a lark, I decided to start flipping salvage with her. Not really play, just log in from time to time and check the Black Market. I started doing that about a week ago.
Now she's at 23 million. I'm like, yay!
Truth be told, you can be rich on CoH if you have enough inf to SO a toon at 50, if you never want to go beyond that.
Ever since I got my first character to 2 billion, I've re-evaluated my definition of "rich." Now, for a toon to be rich, they have to be able to afford all the stuff I want them to have. One character can be considered comfortably well-off with 100 mil, but that Scrapper who I want a Gladiator's Armor unique for is still too poor at 1 bil.
As for liquid assets, inf is so easy to earn now that I really don't care anymore. The only reason I don't have more than I do is because I get lazy or bored.
Eva Destruction AR/Fire/Munitions Blaster
Darkfire Avenger DM/SD/Body Scrapper
Arc ID#161629 Freaks, Geeks, and Men in Black
Arc ID#431270 Until the End of the World
pretty much. lol. you'd never go hungry either.
Isn't that kind of like saying. "You can still be considered rich if you can only afford to eat Ramen Noodles the rest of your life" Even if you do really like them and want nothing more.

... maybe this is a better metaphor than I'm giving it credit for.
Mini-guides: Force Field Defenders, Blasters, Market Self-Defense, Frankenslotting.
So you think you're a hero, huh.
@Boltcutter in game.
I consider most of my characters 'comfortable' when they can afford to be frankenslotted, so around 20-30 million. I don't really consider any of my characters 'Rich'. I tend to not have a lot of liquid assets ever, because I spend them on something shiny before they can ever add up. I think the most I've ever had liquid on a single character was about half a billion. I'd say rich is a billion in my case then. I'll let you know if I ever get there.
