You know what, the Original Creator of G.I. JOE, loved the movie, said he's seen it 5 times now. He also said: Those that hate on it, need to get over themselves.
You know, I kinda agree with him, I enjoyed it, I liked all the various nods to various things, but knew it was like a reboot. So, get over it JJ |
i'll probably give the movie a miss for now and see it when it comes out on DVD.
Dr. Todt's theme.
i make stuff...
Wait, the original creator is still alive? Wouldn't he be at least in his late eighties by now? That's pretty impressive. (Can't recall offhand if GI Joe dates back to WWI or WWII.)

Not to trivialize Mr. Hama's work on the series. For a lot of people who are going to see this movie, he defined what GI Joe is or was. But saying he created GI Joe is kind of like saying the plant manager at Ford created the automobile.
SG Mate: Cien, what the hell is this Rookery thing?
RadDidIt: (interjecting) Dude. It's the Rookery.
SG Mate: Yeah, but what IS it?
RadDidIt: Silliness Incarnate.
So have any of you read the tie in book yet? If not let me save you the time and instead suggest that you use the money to pay someone to punch you repeatedly in the face for even thinking of buying it
This is literaly only the second book ever that I have been unable to bring myself to read all the way to the end.
The movie was fun.
It wasn't great, but it was good enough to be fun.
Concerns about canon are ridiculous. The canon you like regarding G.I. Joe already ignored the canon I knew growing up, and I didn't scream back when your little action figures were trampling over my 12" history. Regardless, huge swaths of cartoon canon were stupid and hugely flawed when you attempt to change medium to film.
Snake Eyes had too many backgrounds, Cobra Commander had no background etc.
Like or hate the movie for what they put on the screen, there's plenty to dis if you really want to without pretending there was some great canon that should have been followed.
Believe it or not... I actually liked the movie. I mean, some of the physics wasn't so spot on. But in the proper mindset that can be overlooked.
And for a refreshing change, it was nice to see that the black guy wasn't a total goof, or dead before the second reel. And who doesn't like babes in skintight gear!
Sure it was a shameless attempt to reignite interst in the Hasbro toyline. But the media and the toy business have been in bed together since about The Flintstones.
I'm only laughing on the outside
My smile is just skin deep
If you could see inside, I'm really crying
You might join me for a weep
My Roster
I take it all back.
Two hours of a redhead and brunette with fabulous breasts punctuated by explosions every five minutes. I enjoyed it.
The only thing that really killed the movie was the random trailer for Avatar. Blue catpeople are not my cup of tea.
Now! This is it! Now is the time to choose! Die and be free of pain or live and fight your sorrow! Now is the time to shape your stories! Your fate is in your hands!
WOW! Just wow!
All I have to say... if that cast was in the actual movie, I'd be a HELL of a lot more impressed. I mean.. Chuck Lidell as Gung Ho, Henry Rollins as Duke, and Julianne Moore as Scarlett... wow! Elysieene, you gets + rep from me <--- new avatar (Vinnie Jones as Destro playing the clarinet) |
did i just see something called "PoeTV"?
srsly......
On the movie i am of the same mind as Commander. I have been an avid fan of GI Joe my entire childhood. I collected everything Joe as a kid I even had the aircraft carrier(i love that they had that in there though ) and the terror drome, hell i even special ordered Sgt Slaughter and Rocky Balboa. The Baroness....I could go on forever. I collected the comics as well.
I was dissappointed as a longtime fan of the series but if ya take that out, it was a fun commercial to watch.

I wont pretend to know the ins and outs of theology... not that comparing the study of something as impactful and intrisic as the ages long culmination of the major religions; their parallels and differences comes anywhere in the region of the study of the short life of this particular type of fluff fiction. But I'll bite...
I'n not a suscriber to religious sectionalism or the depths of it's institutionalism. I do support its intrinsic socialism and its concept as a control tool.
Most religous debate that I've seen have little to do with the source material contradicting itself or having it's concept completely changed in subsequent translation. Most debate usually hinges on agreement/disagreement with the presented material or its translation into practical application; the other disagreements and discourse on continuity are usually side arguments made to supports any decision of agreeability or it's practical applications.
Is it a major complaint from me that this person has a problem with the movie... not at all. I just thought it was silly of them to imply that people would break down if the same happenend in CoX canon (as if it hadn't happened already). I thought it was also silly to imply that Hollywood wasn't allowed to do what the comics and other mediums were already doing to their own creations.
And although I like to get into life-eating debates... I think I am done with this one. It's just GI Joe, lol.
Apparently, I play "City of Shakespeare"
