Veteren Rewards?

Hello,

I'm back after a few years. I've got the 21 month Veteran rewards. How do I take advantage of those. I'm supposed to have the Sands of Mu or the Ghost Slaying axe and some respecs available. I can't figure out how to get those on my new toons.

Please help.

Go to your badges, select Veteran from the drop-down menu, and scroll all the way down. There should be a badge that says Veteran Power or something like that. Click it, and it will allow you to choose your power of choice.

Please note that once you redeem this, there is no going back. You select one of them, and that's the one that character has...forever. So make sure you're absolutely certain of which one you want before you make the selection.

Tricia was clear but I want to emphasize: The choice is per CHARACTER. You can give one person the Ghost Slaying Axe and another the Sands of Mu.

(My ratings: For most purposes, the Sands of Mu is a lot better. If you do a ton of lethal damage you may be better off with the Ghost Slaying Axe, because it is strong vs. some specific things where you're weak. Very few of my characters use vet powers consistently in their later life, but they're nice when you're starting out.)

Mini-guides: Force Field Defenders, Blasters, Market Self-Defense, Frankenslotting.

So you think you're a hero, huh.

On a lot of my toons, I can not select Sands of Mu (or Ghost-Slaying Axe) as a power in my veteran bagdes menu, the alternative to choose them is simply greyed out. Is there a level requirement? Can only certain archetypes use them?

About 4 in 10 toons have had this problem. I have not found a common demoninator among them

I don't think that is supposed to happen. At least I can't remember it as something that is supposed to happen. Did you try over different log in periods? Do you already have the temp power version? (not that I think that should mater).

Did you already select them as a previous Veteran Reward? Bar the temp powers you normally get in game, you can't ever have two of the same vet reward. IE, if you pick the Nemesis Staff once, you can't take it again--you have to pick something else.

When this happens, it's definitely greyed out.

Are you certain you are using the Veteran Badge category and not the "Most Recent" Badges window?

I had this problem on a new hero I made, I couldn't select the powers until after I leveled up, which isnt normally the case. I had a theory that it wasn't the character, it was that the Store was down at the time I was trying to select. I haven't been able to test that though.

I'd wager that you were in an MA arc at the time. You can't select Veteran Rewards while in an MA arc.

IIRC, Veteran Badges are calculated on the Billing server, not the Store server, and once issued to a character, it's up to the Game Server containing the character data to award the reward when claimed. You should always be able to claim the Veteran Rewards... except for....

Hmmm, that may have been it. I don't think I was in an MA arc, but I honestly cant remember. I had just logged the char in.

Super! Thanks.

I knew that Sands of Mu is better over-all but I tend to base my choice on the toon. Got me a new Viking tank with a warhammer and I can see the Axe being a bit more appropriate, for example.

One bad thing about combining the Ax with a weapons based character is the redraw time. It's better now than it is before, but still something to consider.

Actually, it's worse now because before the weapon draw didn't increase the total activation time of the power.

Issue 16 made me feel like this.

I've tried both and agree that Sands of Mu is a better power to have. Every character I've picked the axe for, I've regretted it and wished I could do it differently. Its great for ghosts, but its slow and not strong enough on anything else.

But while some people don't use the power after the low levels, many still do, especially melee toons. I have a level 50 scrapper that Sands of Mu is part of his normal attack chain. Usually near-bottom priority, but its still a fairly powerful attack when everything else is recharging.

If your character does primarily dark damage, the axe may be the better choice, since there's plenty in the game that resist dark, meaning a good portion of your damage output is nullified.

But in the long run, it is how the power looks with your character that ultimately counts.

Also, even though the axe does extra damage to true undead (and there is plenty in the game that qualify), it also does pretty hefty damage on other critters as well, provided they are not heavily resistant to lethal.

Oh. Just remembered another thing in favor of Sands of Mu though.

If the character is a hero, then starting at level 30, you can use the Pillar of Ice and Flame to get a Ghost Slaying Axe at any time. It is charge limited and expires after a certain amount of time, but chances are you won't use it up anyway.

Select the "Rescue the Mystics and Defeat the Pantheon" badge mission. Accept the mission, then "Quit Taskforce"

Bingo, Pillar becomes Axe vending machine.

I dunno.. just for another POV I have to say I usually get the axe. But I'm one of those few who don't choose the power until I need it. I have blackwand/nem staff to buff my offense powers for the beginning levels.. Usually I find I never pick between axe/mu until I find I really need one or the other.. and usually I make that decision when I'm up against ghosts.. and then never use it again.

I think the only ones I got Mu on and are happy with are my controller and my emp defender.
