I've been watching this thread with interest. I don't know if we're operating in any of the same niches or not (probably not as there are a very large number of potential niches), but I've noticed some significant market movements and increased competition in the niches I moved into late last week just before the weekend.

Out of curiosity (speaking as a relative newcomer to the game), do you think other marketers caught on to the niches you entered into over the weekend and, if so, is this the source of your slots being tied up? In short, in reaching the goals for your investment scheme, is competition a factor you need to be constantly on the eye out for?

I doubt it, because supply did not rise, and prices did not fall. What happened was I was trying out a new niche and overestimated demand due to a blitz of sales very early in the weekend. So I invested what I considered a "normal" amount for a crafting niche, for an item which is going to move a lot slower than I thought.

Normally I would just dump the stock and move on, but I'm working with less slots and money than usual so I'm hesitant to play as aggressively as I usually do. I'll give it a few days

Competition is a factor, but it's impossible to say how much market changes are due to competition and how much is just caused by trends in the behavior of the playerbase. For example, in the past two weeks, school has started, CO open beta has started, i16 open beta has started, and the effects of DXP are beginning to wear off. So it's possible that the large market movements you've seen are due to people moving into your niches, but it's just as likely that a combination of people being busy with school/CO/test server, pre-new issue player apathy, and the DXP windfall coming to an end have caused demand to shrink and competition to become more apparent.

That said, I have ramped up my blueside marketeering heavily in the last week.

Hahaha, omg that's great. I've never been able to figure out which things move so nice and quick, or maybe it's my pricing...either way, I had to crap my billions the hard way.

Week 4 (Sept 7 to Sept 14)

Liqid cash: 739,795,328
Market bids: 213,431,200
Unsold goods: 53,640,000 (based on estimated sales price)

Net asset value: 1,006,866,528

Dividends issued: 600m total (100m per share)

So, poke me in-game and I'll give you your money.

Wow, has it been a month since this started? Time flies. And we're now looking at the third major change to our reward systems in the past 12 months. Normally, I used to wind down operations before the launch of a big issue, but this time, I've decided not to make any special preparations and just keep going as normal (both the fund as well as my own marketeering). I'll deal with market changes as they happen.

Given the history of market predictions, I wouldn't be surprised if everyone who looked into their crystal ball ends up wrong in some way.

I'm actually pretty excited!

I knew I should've invested more in the beginning...

Nicely done! I've been following this with keen interest and have tried to match the performance of two of my blue side characters with your performance just for the challenge of it. Well, I made it about half way there, and that's a lot better than I've done anytime in the past. Thanks for posting your progress report and giving me a benchmark to test myself against. Kudos for your market work (and yes, I know, it's work - and fun!).

Unless each of you invested, say, 100m, which would be equivalent to skipping the first three weeks.

I don't keep track of any numbers (and I have a tendency to spend everything I earn) so this isn't very accurate, but I think I earn between 700m and 1bn a month for each active marketeer, assuming no startup period and no significant non-market income.

This project is actually doing better than expected. Figuring in two weeks to get up to speed, I didn't think i'd hit 1bn in the first month.

Week 5 (14 Sept to 21 Sept)

Liquid cash: 229,116,032
Market bids: 139,807,395
Unsold goods: 288,001,230

Net asset value: 656,924,657

Ths above figure doesn't include 300m in uncollected dividends (Ruhe, Hell Jumper and Dumpleberry, you need to poke me if you see me around).

Weekly earnings were just over 250m, which I consider "normal", but the character I'm using for this is working one of the most profitable items I know of. Previously I needed two characters' slots to tap it fully, now I've consolidated production on one.

I already have some thoughts on how i16 is going to play out, but it's still too soon to be sure of anything.

Impressive. I've hit those kind of numbers in a good week but it was too much like 'work'. (i.e. I did it to see if I could and haven't tried to even come close to those numbers again since it's too time-consuming.)

I'll have to remember to hit up Ruhe if I need funds on Virtue.

Week 6 (Sept 21 to Sept 28)

Liquid cash: 707,426,816
Market bids: 147,190,116
Unsold goods: 295,200,000 (based on estimated sales price)

Net asset value: 1,149,816,932

Dividends issued: 600m (100m per share)

More monies! Gimme a poke in game any time you want to collect it. Hell Jumper and Dumple still have uncollected $$$ from the last round (I keep track of this, so don't worry).

This has been a pretty good week. Overall, prices are up and transaction volume is down. Since my slot utilization is pretty low right now, I added a niche to each active marketeer I have.

Recipe supply is noticeably very low. This opens up lots of opportunities for price gouging, but it's annoying when I can't buy enough stuff to replace sold goods, and there is a lot of competition while bidding.

Salvage is essentially free now. Last issue, I had to bid seperately for the recipe and the salvage, but now I only bother bidding on rare salvage. This saves me an extra 2-3 market slots.

I'm still going to be thinking of ways to maximize profit, but if I can come up with 600m for dividends every two weeks, I'll be content.

There's four more weeks left before I shut things down and liquidate everything, so that's two more rounds of dividends + your share of the capital.

I look forward to it! Sorry, Laev, I was in Tokyo for a week and a half.

My video card died earlier this week. This means that while I can use the computer, I can't log into the game until I can find a replacement. It also means that I haven't been able to mess with the market much at all since Tuesday (and this is why I haven't been around to hand out dividends).

I will try to get a new one installed ASAP, which will probably be sometime during the next week. In any case, I'll extend the fund past Week 10 to make up for any lost time.

So, yeah, not much activity for the past week >.>

I am back in the game as of this morning. The fund will run for one extended week, till week 11, to make up for my absence.
