/jra- just kidding, but in all seriousness this is extremely unlikely. The version of this game that was in that video was a completly unplayable mess...much like what champions is now. I cant explain the double jump thing, im pretty sure that may have been a bug/blahblah.

The basic idea was that you could select any sets and any powers that you wanted.
In theory great idea, in reality however, it turned out that you could gimp yourself epicly and on the other hand create an uber character. The balance was horrible and thus the archtypes were born.
Most of the powers you see in that clip were either removed again or reorganized in the power sets we know today.

I already know why they made archetypes I am asking why Shape Shifting,time control,and light control never made it in game.?

*edit* Realisticly speaking how on earth would you implement these kind of powers in a MMO that would make sense outside of Phase shifting/Holds with some flavor text to fit the theme?

No, the Legacy Chain use a recolored Energy Blast. Energy Blast was originally meant to be water. Legacy Chain (and Energy Doms and Elec Brutes) got different colors as part of the first steps towards finding out what's necessary for power colorization.

It would confirm a suspicion I have had for some time.
Time Control could have been represented by boosts to movement speed, health/energy regeneration and cooldown reduction. Their opposites could have been utilised as debuffs against foes.
A hold that takes the target out of time for a brief period could also be a possibility, useful for enemies and allies alike.
So it's likely that Hasten and the Kinetics set what that power eventually evolved into.

has anyone looked at the City of Heroes Initial Gameplay Demo. google it. if you pause at the power screen you see Super Vision, Time Control, Shapeshifting, light control and telekinesis has its own set. Interesting. were they lying for marketing reasons or were the powers already developed. |
Also! look at the hero with super strength. He used some of the animation that were revealed to be in I16. They also use the costume creator that was supposed to be new in I16. It looks like I6 is recycled beta features. Also during the video a female character does a double jump then flies also there is an atmosphere also.Why didn't they keep it. (Also a lot more yellow in the game. Especially in the night. makes you think of watchmen) |
- BABs said he created the new super strength animations. He wasn't even around when that video was released. What reason would he have to lie?
- I'm not seeing how the new "split" creation sequence is the same one in the video. There are similarities, but given how the steps in the character creation process really haven't changed since back then, it makes sense that the two would look similar.
- The female model also had a different standing pose, one that I like better than the one they currently use. And characters did somersaults as they went into flight. If there's some conspiracy and the lazy devs are just copying 6-year-old animations, why not copy these as well?
SO! is Paragon studios actually taking things from closed beta for updates? Did any of the interesting powers in the video actually work. Did closed beta also have the rest of the SS animations? Do they still have access to the content in closed beta? |
And I'm fairly sure that the gameplay demo video was from before the closed beta. I was in the open beta, and it wasn't all that different than what we got at launch.

That old gameplay tech demo video (the one with Atlas Statue being a wire mesh instead of solid rock, right?) wasn't even Alpha, IIRC. It was pre-alpha. I do miss the little turning they did when moving though. Also, I think it wasn't a double jump so much as jump, front flip and launch into flight.
This is why the devs are so tight-lipped on new developments now. Anything that gets changed, shelved or delayed gets whined about endlessly.
