Crab Backpack... STILL broken at tailor?!?!?!

Just started up with CoH after being gone for a bit. One of the things that pushed me over the 'try something now' bump was the fact that there was no way to remove the Crab Spider BackPack on your costume at the tailors. You know the one.. the one with the big waving arms.

Now, I know you need that if you are a Crab Spider, but on an Alt build I went with the Mace guy line. However, there was a broken piece of code regarding the backpack, so you couldn't remove it even if you didn't have any Crab Spider powers. It was a 'known issue' and the Devs said they were working on it.

That was last winter. I came back, not only is it still broken, it doesn't even show up on the 'known issue' list anymore. Did the Dev's just write that off? Was there an announcement that they had given up fixing it?

Yes, that is true.. but doesn't answer my question. :P

This topic doesn't have enough punctuation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you really want your question answered, why didn't you use even more punctiation to emphasize your question?!?!??!?!!??!?!?!!?!??!?!!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!? !?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!??!!?!?!

Really. One punctuation mark is enough. Don't be one of those people.

As for your question, I don't think there's been any official word one way or another. Personally, I think it makes sense canon-wise for them to be non-removable...but that's just me. You could try PMing the devs, if you want a better answer, because the devs don't come here, and I doubt any player knows.

Besides which, the "list of known issues" that I think you're talking abotu is player-maintained. Unless there's an official one that I don't know about...

What the hell was wrong with his use of punctuation? I don't get it.

Edit:I see it now,the subject not the text..carry on

This would be because the devs don't have the tech to have costumes recognize which build you're on. You need to have zero crab powers in either build, and I somehow doubt it's "fixable" any time soon.

PM the Dev's? Anyone know who to PM? Do they answer?

Honestly, I wouldn't know who to go for for this kind of issue. I'd maybe try Castle.

And yes, they do answer...sometimes. Sometimes they get busy, and don't...but I've gotten several answers from them. Just don't get offended if you don't get a response. They're awfully busy with I16 now.

Hope they'll be able to help you, though.

Aside from canonical issues, there's no way to fix it that wouldn't also take a revamp of how the whole weapons thingy works.

Take normal weapons for example, like rifles or swords and all that fancy stuff. They are technically always on your characters, but show up as invisible. They become visible when you use them, though. It's that method that allowed weapon customisation, apparently.

It makes sense for most weapons, but the backpack? Apply the same method to the backpack, and it would only show up when you used a backpack-related power. That makes even less sense than a Crab Spider using a mace. So unlike other weapons, the backpack is always visible.

Hell, even if you did make it invisible when using your Bane build, it would still be there, and you still cannot use capes. It's invisible, but still there. Don't believe me? Use your Crab build and go to the tailor. I assure you, your mace will show up under weapon customisation.

I can see why you'd want the backpack to vanish into thin air with your Bane build, but conflicts with your character concepts won't make this any easier to 'fix'. And it still makes no sense a backpack attached to your spine would just be taken off like a shirt, anyway.

If I remember right, Ghost Falcon is the posting red-name who is a programmer - and this would thus be up his alley.

I thought Ghost Falcon was the go-to lore guy. That might have been Hero 1.

BackAlleyBrawler is animations, JLove (Sexy Jay) is costume pieces... even they probably don't know what this falls under.

Sent some messages, nothing yet. I know for the longest time this problem was listed under the "known issues" with each patch, then one day it just got removed. The issue is still there, they just seem to give up on it.

I really just want to know if the Devs have swept it under the rug and no longer plan on fixing it or is there hope maybe it will be finally taken care of?

(For me, this keeps me from playing my Bane toon as the arms waving around look just stupid for the build.)

Thanks in advance to any Devs that can let us know what's going on!

You really need to avoid loaded terms like "give up on" and "swept under the rug" They're basically inflammatory and show you don't really understand the process.

It got taken off the Known Issues list because that's how the development process works. Known Issues is for issues in the current build they're working on and relates to obvious issues they know about and don't need people reporting.

The Issue with backpacks is it's not a fixable bug without extensive work on both the way Crab powers were built and the Dual Build system is set up. In order to make a backpack that was on all the time and not just when you activated powers, they had to build it into the guts of the AT based on the branch you picked. However the way it was built didn't allow for dual builds and doesn't register when you flip from one to the other. They said they would try, but that's how things would have to stay until they had time to re-engineer it.

With any luck, if they ever do Power Customization for *EATs, that is when the issue will be fixed. Since it's looking like that won't be in this first round of PC, you're going to have to sit tight and quell your moral outrage.

I was a little surprised with my recently-started SoA when I kept the backpack with a second Bane build. But it's (pardon) grown on me, and yeah, it wouldn't make sense for it to disappear. I've gotten to like seeing the arms waving threateningly while I slam a mace into people.

I always like options - I'd be quite happy to be able to take or leave them on non-Crab builds - but as far as things I'd like devs to blow their time over, this is somewhere past 100 on the list.

I like the fact the crab pack stays. I just wish we could use the VEAT costume on more than the first slot. I don't like using a secondary costume. I'd rather just keep his spider costume and change up the colors or size.
