Not really, as you can see Effy was also agitated by X's stupid remarks about a leaving player. Globey also noticed. And so did I.
Was there any need to say what he said? No. If he hasn't got anything meaningful to contribute, any smart person would agree he should just stay shut and not say anything at all, then we can avoid disscussions like this right? Thought so.
Is this a witch hunt? Because it sure feels like one, as well as a horrible case of naming and shaming.
All your reactions (and I'm not pointing the finger at anyone in particlar) make this situation even worse and instead of wishing a departing hero well, this has almost become the focus of the discussion.
A simple "Ignore user" would have been ok. You can also report infractions to the moderators but please don't victimise anyone on these forums. It is easy to aggravate a situation by posting messages in an infuriated state of mind, and before you know it, you're the one being abusive and being reported. Don't fall into that trap, ok?

Yeah, but I would have hoped moderators would actually utilise the disciplinary powers at their command instead of lecturing the people who were defending who were defending the leaving user?
And as you noted, GG's post caused this thread to be derailed by the people who rushed to the defense of the 'departing hero'
It'd be really helpful if you consider 'infractions' in their context, rather than just their factual significance.(for example, even though me globey and effy "named and shamed" it was justified because GG took a stab at an innocent poster) So are you going to delete GGs post or give him an infraction or something then?
If nothing changes, this will probably keep happening, as you are now aware (if you weren't before) alot of people have contempt for some of the stuff GG posts, and believe it or not, I DON'T enjoy conflict on these forums.
If you don't want this to become a regular issue (which believe me I don't either) it's going to take more than stern talking to.
The point i'm getting at is, for a moderator, playing peacekeeper won't solve all the problems. I bet even after considering everything GG instigated into this topic, still nothing is going to happen to him.
And the naming and shaming is justified in this case, GG had no place to be making those kind of sarcastic remarks to someone who is just trying to get some goodbyes from the people they played with. It's obvious if members of the forum don't act in defense of each other, flamers and spammers are going to be getting away with stuff like this left and right, because there's no one else to stop it.

With practice, you become mentally toughened against every one who's only contributions to any forum is one one-liner after another. Never providing any meaningful content, just rubbish remarks. It's never worth calling attention to them, just mentally ignore their postings and be happy.
Gall, I know how you feel. No matter how much you enjoy an MMO, a stage arrives where you just feel tired and don't get the same enjoyment. Four years is a pretty long stretch and well, there are other entertainments out there.
And you're never too old to have fun.

Well I never thought it'd come to this but there comes a time when a man must move on.
I've had 4+ great years of playing this game, met some great ppl and some not so great. I've lived the lives of too many of my characters to my detriment and joy. But after months of ever decreasing enjoyment I've decided not to renew my subscription as of the 12th of JUly.
Reasons? Too little time to commit to playing, an ever darkening feeling of being jaded towards the game itself and a stronger still feeling of disconnection from the RP player base.
I've had a blast guys! So thanks!
