Please Help Me Level Legitimately!

Greetings Heroes,

I'm currently level 37 and becoming increasingly frustrated at how hard it seems to be to find a decent mission arc to solo with that doesn't send me all over the City. Also, I'm getting frustrated at how long it seems to take me to level, even when doing regular missions.

It also really winds me up that someone can buy the game, roll a character, and have a level 50 Warshade 3 days later. Here's me trying to level up without resorting to farming, and its becoming depressing.

Am I missing something? Is there somewhere I can go at level 37 to alleviate some of this pain/boredom?

I've burned through the non-repeatable content of both the RWZ and Crimororoaooroa (the Roman place I can never spell). What else is there? I'm currently doing an arc in brickstown about a hacker called the Doctor. But the XP gain from each mission is infintesimally small.

Please help a frustrated hero out!

Cheers,

BB

What sever are you on and i'll be happy to team up and help you cut out the boredom. The best way to make you not feel like your grinding or having to level slowly or the like is to take your mind of that fact. There's several ways of doing this:
[*]Actually enjoying yourself so much you forget.[*]Listening to some music while you play[*]Finding a good team to chat to while you mission or[*]use a large chat channel.

These can all be attained by doing something you enjoy listening to music with a good team.

Ah, the late 30's grind. Welcome to an experience many of us have had.

Hmm, suggestions...

Do a few radio mishes, then the bank job and pick up another contact. There are a LOT of contacts in Brickstown and Founder's Falls (the zones for your level), and there are some very nice arcs, too - though some of them can be a bit long, and a few of them suffer from Excessive Defeat All syndrome.

The drag you're feeling will not last past Level 40 (when the joys of Peregrine Island become available).

Also don't forget that at L40 some new contacts in RWZ will start to be available, too.

Ah, excellent. I was hoping someone would say that it gets easier at 40

Thankyou for providing the light at the end of the tunnel.

The term "Pain/Boredom" are not one that I personally associate with a game I would want to play... Hence why I farm.

However... an ITF task force once a night will see you 40+ soon enough, join Sals Badge hunters and listen out when they are starting up.

Oh, there's definitely light at the end of the tunnel.

Out of curiosity, which of those characters in your sig is the one you're playing currently? If it's Blast Bolt, then I can sympathise completely - Shadowe is an Eng/Eng Blaster, and I know it can be tricky at times.

If you're on Union, give me a shout sometime (@Shadowe) and I'll see what I can do to help out.

A couple of fun hints:

Play at challenge level 2 or 4, to get bigger spawns. You can take them, believe me.

Find an Empath to play with, and turn yourself into an Eng/Eng/Regen Blaster.

Find a Kinetic to play with, and turn yourself into an Eng/Eng/OMG HOW MUCH DAMAGE?! Blaster. (For fun and frolics: Aim, Build Up, Nova, <Kin uses Transference>, Conserve Power, keep on rolling..., rinse and repeat as needed.)

As soon as you ding 38, GET TOTAL FOCUS. It's totally worth it to be able to Aim+Build Up+Snipe+Total Focus... wait, there was a Lieutenant here?

Using Global Channels is probably a good idea, sals badgehunters and Union Chat are two fairly huge ones that should get you a team if you do a shout-out.

I tend to stick "Happy to sk" into my LFT comment as well, from the mid-30s onwards you're well built enough to join any high level team and contribute well.

Focus solely on Vanguard Merits
Thats what I was fixated on with my Sword/Shield scrapper, who I wanted to look like a Vanguard Colonel, hence needing all the kit. I got so fiated on the merits that was level 40 without realising it.
It does help that Sword/Shield by that level is ludicrously fun to play Make sure you enjoy the character is the first guideline. And, being a roleplayer, I choose missions that would make sense, and they tend to turn out in interesting ways.

Also, what Shadowe said. It seems he is still somewhat wise

BB: Have you run through the two Task Forces available at your level yet? That would be Numina's TF (35-40) and the Imperious TF (35-50). If you want to "level legitimately" (as you put it), you can always get sidekicked to a 50 on the latter (as 50-level teams are pretty frequent on the ITF, due to the chance for purple drops off the (hordes of) mobs at that level).

(In case you're a player who doesn't have solid chunks of time to throw at the game...) Numina's can be quite long (1.5-3 hours depending on team, whether they've run it before, etc) and the ITF can take anything from 35-ish minutes (speedrun) to 3+ hours (normal run and problems with the rather tough final AV). I'd say the average is 1h20-2 hours.

Also, once you ding 38, I believe you'll be in range for the Hydra trial, which is a pretty cool bit of content and doesn't take too long to complete with an experienced team; at 39, you'd be able to do the Eden trial (again not overlong to complete with an experienced team, and a unique bit of content).

On top of that, you can always run a 2nd respec trial (34-44) for either a respec or merits, plus a badge.

(On Defiant) I wouldn't say that the Hydra/Eden trials or Numina TF are that commonly run, but there's an ITF run practically every evening and you can usually find people up for the 2nd respec. @JamieB if you're Defiant-side, will be happy to help you out if I'm online.

Thanks for the info and suggestions guys, really helpdul.

To answer a few questions, I'm on Union, and yes, my Blaster is my main I'm levelling. As it happens, a friend of mine has an Empath Defender a few levels below me, so I'll duo with him more.

Also, I'm not in the two channels you've mentioned, so I will join those when I next log on. Definatley want to do ITF at some point.

Cheers guys, you've really cheered me up!

Cheers,

BB

There's an XP bonus for teaming (up to 2.5x XP for 8-person teams), so if you want to level faster teaming is definitely the way to go.

This is more personal taste, but I've found I generally enjoyed the Founders' Falls stories more than the Brickstown ones. Possibly this is just because FF is prettier to run around. :-)

Yes.. big arc's with teams of 8 on a repp 3-5 and you level even during the 37+ ones with ease.

Average - A new race of aliens arrives on Earth. And Vanguard has you investigate them!
- The Court of the Blood Countess: The Rise of the Blood Countess #3805

I have a defender in the mid-late 30s atm - Infinity Paradox.

He's Rad/Dark and oodles of fun. I tend to start me own teams so i shall look out for Blast Bolt.

What sort of times do you tend to play?
