I'm back, and the game is more fun than ever.

As the subject says... yes, City of Heroes is better now than it was when it came out. It has more to do. With the addition of the mission architect, it offers opportunities that were never there before.

Sure, a lot of people are using the MA to build farm maps and other such abominations against good gameplay - but that's life.

I wrote this sig quite a while ago now; I stand by every word of it.

DCUO and CO will never see my money. The Citygame will keep seeing my money for as long as I keep enjoying it

Welcome back.

I'm amazed that some people see MA as the best thing since sliced bread, whilst others see it as a potential game destroyer.

I've said this before, but the MA eliminated my biggest problem with the game - lack of endgame content. I have stuff to do on my 50s now, and I love playing them again. i14 rocks.

You're quite entitled to that opinion, and I'm honestly glad you like it.

Others that I know personally have a different view altogether of it.

Actually i have the same view it has been nice to play the rusty old 50's which have only ever been out to play TFs or do a bit of badging but the MA has rejuvenated them.

It may be a marmite thing for many i agree. But there are AE buildings in most zones so go to Talos to get away from all teh farming going on in Atlas. Sit back and enjoy the good arcs, personally I look for 4 star missions as they are not as spammed 5 stars as often as farms. But if it looks a bit agricultural and you can smell the manure, quit out and report it. Easy enough to pick another.

ninja edit oh btw welcome back OP

The problem for me is that part of why I love this game - a huge part - is the storyline.

MA is not and never will be part of the CoX storyline.

Its CoX through the Looking Glass, a virtual reality CoX.

Even as I'm playing MA arcs it just feels wrong for me. I wish it didn't, but it does.

So .. The revelation that CoX will not be getting any new dev created arcs is kind of devastating for someone in my position.

I would imagine that my feelings were mirrored in some of those that quit today.

Tl;dr: Right now it's both.

I'm a big supporter of MA, although I expected most of the things that happened (except for that Atlas spam thing and way too generous rewards...), farmer arcs, bugs, people who are better at promoting their stories than at writing them, most of it is actually BETTER than I was afraid.

Why I'm still beliving in it? I believe this is THE future of MMOGs, that's that many, most even, people actually want to do online, - Look at CoX itself, - roleplay, cossie competitions, RWZ challenges, SGs, even markets - it's all stuff run by players for players. It exists in every MMOG, and always wins over prefab "endgame content" in the long run. PvP is in the same category, but, well... Let's not talk about that .

But MA could destroy the game if the dev team won't find a solution to a major problem no one was able to solve yet (fair ratings system.) and several technical issues, that just require enough man-hours thrown at them (search, exploitability, spam and lag) plus extend it in rather obvious way, - buyable story slots, better arc editor, more content.

P.S. This post was checked for absolute neutrality on the issue that shall not be talked about by me.

Well, that's a valid objection, but frankly, MMOs are just not good medium for that type of storytelling anyway. 25 beaten Frostfires later you realize that there isn't any storyline that progresses, everuithing is reset back immediately after a contact gives you their souvenir. Individual stories may be cool, yes, but continuity is simply not there, and without continuity it may well be all a VR anyway...

Welcome back. As a someone leaving I'm glad you find the game reinvigorated and fun. I'm actually hoping that in a years time I can do the same. CoX will always have a place in my heart as the first mmorpg i played and the only one i enjoyed. The joy of playing, the excitement of racing home from work just to log in, the hours of screaming wildly at the screen has gone for me. I feel tired and jaded so have to go. It doesn't mean i think the game has gone down the pan (it hasn't) nor that the community is somehow less wonderful (it isn't) but its time to hang up the cape for a while and with luck and time I'll feel the same way as the OP at some point and be kicking myself for ever leaving
