I just can't see a reason not to give the buttcape to men too.

[/ QUOTE ]

I'd give it the same reason men don't have high heels.

[/ QUOTE ]
Because men know that high heels are a risk to ones health?

[/ QUOTE ]

Only if you're fighting crime while wearing them - otherwise, they're totally ok

[/ QUOTE ]

A correctly aimed heel can be quite an aid to crimefighting, actually...

But only if you're close to the target - having to chase them down first makes heels impractical

Be that as it may, I recall from my Thespian days that they give you a damn good looking calf, albeit a hairy one.

*cough*

[/ QUOTE ]

That's kind of the point of them. Well, they give the illusion of the wearers legs being longer and more slender as well.

I love high heels, yet another reason men have real trouble competing with women for me. Women just have so many more tools for looking yum. It doesn't matter how good the guy looks, when his female competition turns up in a long, backless dress with a high side split and heels, the battle is pointless.

He'll look ridiculous. I'm bisexual, not mental, gender roles and distinctions haven't suddenly disappeared for me just because I won't say no if a nice guy wants to do stuff to me with his tongue.

Aha! Well if I had a lvl 50 Villain I know I'd be squeeling with joy

Question though, will Male characters have access to buttcapes too?

Posted

Doesn't look like it, and I see no good reason why they shouldn't.

It's because male Widows are the abomination!

Seriously though, they'd probably look really silly with a buttcape.

Guess you have a point... Unless the devs allowed us to make male Wido... Oh wait...

Se how that kinda kills all and any argument on why they should not have the capes?
If they were stupid(yes.. this is the best word for it) to actually allow us to make male widows in the first place.
Same can be said about the female soldiers.

[/ QUOTE ]The "it would look silly" argument has been used before to make decisions on costume pieces so no it doesn't kill the argument.
Just because we're allowed to make male Widows doesn't mean they would look any less daft wearing buttcapes. (In the end it's probably a technical issue anyway.)

As for allowing female SoA, there's a historical example of female Wolfspiders in concept art so saying they are in the same situation is also invalid.

I dont' see how the argument "it would look silly" would still have any meaning after the Trenchcoats, and a dozen other remarkably stupid looking costume-pieces. If "It would look silly" had been a legit argument, 1/3rd of the pieces currently in the game would have to go.

Also, why would the devs (or anyone else for that matter) care if some dude wants to make a toon with analfloss? It's their problem if they look silly. And who has the finaly say on what looks silly and what doesn't anyway? Jay? He probably couldn't find his butt(cape) with a map.

Not much different from Victorian tailcoats for guys.

And no, not even Colin Firth can carry one off these days.

Full proper full Victorian capes, on the other hand...

But why allow us to have male widows if they are not supposed to have you know... The same looks as females?
Ok so there are usually gender specific uniforms when it comes to that.
And then they should have made the entire AT gender specific.

But I really cannot understand why it would look silly?

That certain costume parts are specific for gender I understand and accept... But a piece of cloth attached to the behind?
And it it's a technical issue... Wave goodbye to male trench coats. Since I assume they use very similar tech for the placement of the coat.

That I did not know since I'm not that interested in concept art.

[/ QUOTE ]It's probably more a case of being the lesser of a choice of evils. Think of the outcry from the macho "I'm not playing a girl" brigade (yes they are out there) if widows were a female only AT.

[/ QUOTE ]I did say, "they'd probably look really silly with a buttcape". It is an assumption on my part. Whether that was the deciding factor for Jay and Co. remains a matter of speculation.

[/ QUOTE ] Not quite the same. The top ends of the trenchcoat and tailcoat pieces are at a significant distance from the actual body of the toon wearing them. Buttcapes on Night Widows and Fortunatas are flush with the bodies of those npcs. That positioning would make them much harder to look "right" in the more diverse world of PC hip scales. Also the more angular hips on the male PC models probably pose some problems.

There's plenty of silly costume pieces, most notably the boxing outfit. It, to me, is not an adequate reason for it not to be given to men. Note, I'm not having a go at any players here, just wondering what reason the devs have for restricting it like this. And yeah, I am aware they make plenty of arbitrary decisions and they need not stick to logic if they don't want to.
