I have really enjoyed my 4 years playing COH but over the last few weeks or more the EU servers have went downhill big time i say the EU servers as i also play the US servers and there working fine.
Were getting hit with constent rubber banding, map server issues and now as i speak i am unable to gain access into the updater for about 45 mins just keeps connecting but the US one connects first time.
We pay the same amount of money as America does but are getting nothing but hassle can we please get all the issues resolved.
I dont like to moan like this but i am getting close just to giving up and walking away save us please save us

I know exactly what you mean, once my subs gone, thats it. Its not getting renewed.

Its one thing to have mapserver disconnections every two minutes on a map, its another completly to not be able to connect.

Sad thing is nothing will probably be done till tomorow morning because ncsoft dont believe in doing there job at the weekend :/

Found the issue and emailed support, but probably wont do anything till tomorow.

TweakCoH comes back with following:

Attempting to connect to 64.154.197.14 on port 6994

Please wait.......................

Failed connection to 64.154.197.14 on port 6994

Error: Connection timed out.

As far as i can see thats the only one not working. Anyone know a way to void a connection??

On further checks, its all the cohupdate.cityofheroes.com connections.

The uk.cohupdate.coh.com connections are all refusing connection.

The rest are all fine.

I noticed a lot of mapserver connection losses, when playing a new char in the Hollows not 5 minutes ago... It was really bad when not on a mission, but almost no mapserver disconnects when on a mission....

I do hope they can fix this issue as soon as they can....

Yeah, you are lucky in game i can´t even connect ..... ^^

After leaving cohupdater for 45 mins, it connected, but support tried blaming my router again

Why wont the just accept the servers aint working lol

I'm having trouble connecting at the minute. It's now at #17 on the updater. I hope it works soon as I have organised a TF with my sg at 7pm.

I had no problems connecting just now so it's not just the servers.

If your having problems with the updater though use the "project eucoh" updater by-pass.

Because the servers are working. If the problem was with the severs it would look very different.

What is kapput is the net infrastructure near the datacentre in germany.

You beat me to saying it

If you are having trouble connecting it really sounds as if your ISP, their peers, your router or firewall is blocking that particular port. As I have said elsewhere the updater will cycle round a range of ports each time it is run - so if you can't connect quit out and try rerunning it. This has nothing to do with the CoH servers although it may be a bad route anywhere between yout PC and the server.

I'd have to say the recommendations to connect directly bypassing the updater seem ill advised - this will mean you definitely won't be able to connect once a patch is released.

can you run a tracert to the coh server address - that should show where problems are occurring.

Its not the ISPs

We are attempting to do a Lady Grey and everyone in the team has had mapservers, rubberbanding etc all ther way through, to the point of ditching it.

We have also all experienced not being able to get back in and all different ISPs.

They just need to feed the hampppppsters...
(Or restart the servers due to some weird memory leak, but not enough people working to actually do that)

Was on the worst ITF ever today. People could hardly get on-line, then some überlag hit us and stayed with us way before lag canyon. We still managed to pull it off in 1 hour 18 minutes!

Yup. The "C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\CityOfHeroes.exe" -project eucoh trick worked for me.

But do all the affected ISPs use the same peers - possibly within the UK - several probably use some of the others as peers anyway.
They almost certainly share the same backbone link to Europe.
Their DNS table entries are again probably originating from the same peer - that getting messed up was what pretty much took down all of Western Europe for a sizable portion of a day not so long ago.

As I said try running a tracert and check where the delays actually are.
A year or so ago there was a concerted effort on the forums to track this down. It appeared to be one particular link somewhere in France and it was being used in the routing tables of about half of the UK's ISPs. Those that didn't route via that link were unaffected. Those that did got MS D/Cs regularly.

Ok, it's fair not to blame NC or their servers, but no matter where the problem occurs on the way to NC servers, when the brown stuff hits the fan, we're pretty much all affected and it doesn't matter if we're in the UK, spain, sweden, germany etc - and more so: no other application is affected.

Most of us have a "backup" game like lotro, wow etc we barely play, but those applications are just fine, skype's working fine etc.

So in the end we still come back to the five year old code that's part of the game we love but sure wasn't the best for a MMO game. Even more so, players that still have accounts on the US doesn't seem to be affected nearly as much by rubberbanding, connection issues, DCs, out-of-body experiences etc.

Fair or not, I choose to blame NC's european ISP/server handler!

Edit: lol... Can't get on to the server again!

Clearly the code on the US servers is different then

No, it probably isn't. That's not what I said.

Your ISP just connects you to the internet. After that the data passes through at least half a dozen different nodes, all owned by different companies. If any one of those nodes isn't working properly it would cause the problems we are experiencing. The closer the dodgy node is to the datacenter, the greater the number of players who will experience problems.

You can prove that this is what is happening, as it is possible to get round the issue by forcing your data to take a different path through the internet.

Okay, I understand that, but either way, as Sing said, other games work perfectly well, as did this one until fairly recently, so I dont see why it is suddenly becoming unbearable.

Last night was horrendous and tbh if it keeps up like this, then servers, ISPs, routing or whatever, people will gradually give up on a game they love purely down to being virtually unplayable and other games, while not as much fun, at least dont play like a slideshow bouncer that kicks you out for not wearing the right Route trainers.

Absolutely unplayable from about 5 TO 6pm, mapserver errors all over the place, eventually got kicked and couldn't get back on. Judging by the mobs we were facing she'll probably be dead when I do get back on again. I just give up for now, this is completely pointless.

Strange that another MMO, wich most prob would near the same datacenter is playable just fine. Even doing 100vs100 big fight.

It's clear that one of the internet nodes in Germany has started malfunctioning badly in recient days.

Of course, it's not a matter completly out of NCSoft's control: at least in the long term, they could change th physical location of the servers.

Problem is they'll be tied in to a contract and unless the problems are a breach of the SLA guaranteed by the datacenter (IE; it's their fault), there's really no easy way to get out of it to move where everything's based.

I am quite fine with problems occuring, problem is when you try to find out what's happening you get the generic stupid response to send in info, run the net tool etc in a friggin mail long after you stopped playing.

Noone ever tells us there IS a problem, WHAT the problem is etc, and they never ever contact us in-game anymore. What point is there to run the net tool when everything is back to normal (hopefully)?

This has made me so annoyed I'm gonna create another thread about it, because of some other things.
