A Proposal for your Consideration.

Hey, all.

I've not mentioned this anywhere else before today, because it's just been a "nice idea" that I've had floating around in my head for a bit.

With the changes to PvP in Issue 13, which generally makes it more accessible to non-hardcore-PvP players, I was wondering what the general consensus would be to a "PvP zone IC invasion" session at some point?

The idea being that a group of us RPers (as many as possible, really) grab whatever character they feel like (hero or villain), and we descend on one of the PvP zones for an evening of banter, trash-talk and heroic/villainous fights. Played IC, but not necessarily an event that actually "happens" in the RP-game-universe - unless the overwhelming consensus is to do it that way, in which case I would ask the "big-thinkers" to try and come up with an IC justification for it.

So, what do people think of this as an option for the (relatively near) future? Thoughts, ideas and comments please.

I'd be all for it...I'm sure I could wrangle some kind of explanation for it but it'd take me a while and I'd need my thinking grenades...

I had considered to do this as part of my current plotline. Do it in Warburg (unfortunately would exclude lower levels) and have people hunting Infinitron; with the story that I had been spotted there. And the result of whoever i managed to take down/ attack, and who took me down (not necessarily in that order) would be written up as the completion of the plot. But wasn't sure a) if it would work, b) if anyone would care; and so have come up with some other ideas for the plot. But i'd be up for this, especially if it was IC but out of plot, as it would be a laugh.

a very nice idea ,

as to a plot / reason ...a fun silly plot a group of us chat-RP'ed a while ago was .."the night Pocket D's supression field went down " a bunch of mildly drunk heroes and villain mixed together suddenly find they can blatt the person next to them ..

however take it to a PvP zone and Bar room Brawl time ..

...-Burrows back through RP forum list-
...I swear I put a post up about the KG plot to do something based on this. I would link, but either it got combed out in the last rinse, or I accidently deleted it myself...
Damnation.
Frankly YES is the answer.

The KG plot was (had I got the members >&lt an Arachnos assault consisting of two full Regiments in Bloody Bay and Sirens Call. The secondary teams, however, would be pilfering nukes from warburg, and deploying them against Longbow in the other two zones.
The Heroes would, hopefully, respond in force to this threat, mainly in the warzone parts of Sirens, leading to epic mashing and suchnot.

The Krimzon Guard didnt get as many members as I had hoped, so I put it on standby. But yes, i'd be up for it, whatever context it was in

What about the PvP zone which is the temporal reflection of atlas city (Rescule's Victory I think it's called) using that as somesort of sudden unexplained happening.. with the Heroes being somehow sent there and the Villains already there causing choas.
With the Heroes only way to return back to their right time/restore the timeline is to find and get rid of whatever brought them to that place.

Would be a much more different event to anything else and would not be a connection to any plotline just a random event that happend?

Level restriction precludes 99% of RP characters from attending.

As does most of the PVP zones if I remember correctly.

From what I see majority are around 15+. So Bloody Bay would work. But you get that problem of A)Tools and B) Levels if someone wants one in. Anyway so *shrugs*

You can go to Bloody Bay at 15.

PvP'ing before 15 is a little pointless!

There are far more RP toons at level 15 than there are at level 40+.

This has some potential, but it's possibly limited. It would probably need to to be BB and I have a sneaking suspicion that a largeish PvP event like this might attract unwanted attention. I'm also less than convinced that the I13 PvP changes do actually make PvP more accessible to non-PvPers.

Please note that opinions expressed above may be influenced by my lack of general energy for anything very much.

The way I've done it in the past is quite simply a large radio broadcast calling for heroes to push back a sudden invasion of Rogue Isles villains (usually the Gang), approaching Bloody Bay first, Sirens Call second, Warburg third and lastly, a desperate time-warped attempt at Recluse's Victory. Doing it this way, everyone gets to participate on some level, and if the villains win most or all of the fights (like they did last time), peace is eventually restored by other public servants and or military forces, ie Longbow. Non roleplayers tend to join in but their out of character and sometimes nonsensical chatter can be ignored by segregating the broadcast chat channel to an isolated tab and keeping in character conversations to local or team channels. It would appear that that is correct, yes.

Worried about PvP elitists in the zones?
Why? All the obnoxious ones seem to have vacated the play-pen..I mean, zone...

Well, I'm going to vaguely bump this thread for the time being - this idea is going to be on hiatus until after the DXP weekend, I expect, but I would then like to get down to organising it in earnest.

How big can you make Arena events? Am I right in thinking that Arena maps are selectable? To avoid the level issues, maybe a big Arena event?

But since I don't know what I'm talking about, feel free to point and laugh...

Posted

Problem with arena events is that they disable emotes and you can't talk to anyone outside of the arena.

Yes, you're right - I'd forgotten about that. So, why is that? I'm having trouble understanding why it shouldn't at the very least be optional. With the Arena being the white elephant it is, you'd think someone amongst the devs would have an idea to release as many turn-offs from it as possible and encourage casual use of the feature, rather than continue to deter it.
