A community is defined by its content, not its numbers.
I hope this is what you were trying to point out?
Just found that lately geting a team or a coherant answer to some things is worse than it used to be.

You did read GR response in this thread right? You WILL get those badges on every toon. It doesnt matter (much) if you play em or not.
[/ QUOTE ]
But my point against this that I made is the IDEA of the badges, and what it means you end up doing, ie, Sal is my main badger, but also my main toon. So by your suggestion, I would now NOT play him, in favour of a lesser liked toon, so he gets the badges quicker.
Just think they could have made them accolades without a badge attached, or something similar. They must know that avid badge collectors will stay logged out more to get the badges.

However, what is the method for getting around 48 badges on all my badge toons (currently 12 serious badgehunters)? Stay logged off!!!!!!!!

Lol - Oh Sal this must be a killer predicament for you!
I have heard there is a 'Scab' badge planned if you subscribe to Champions-Online or DCUO and put in an absence for 6 months or longer.

My own feeling on this is that those toons which don't have the badges after a month or 6 are the most loved. It's almost as tho NOT getting them on your favourite toon is, to exuse the pun, a badge of honour
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm aiming to collect a few day job badges on all my heroes. My "to avoid as much as possible" badges are the ones for debt and damage taken etc.
im with sal on this ... these badges are kinda pointless and not really in essence of "proper" badge hunting as u cant work to get then in a short period of time. i know how much sal loves playing as sal ... and when a highly respected member of this eu community says smt like this it is highly distressing and will no doubt have an effect n him and his followers after all sal is the king of badge hunting to the extreme day jobs are just anothet excuse to keep a virtually dead game alive until CO and DCUO come out. i13 is smt that shouldve arrived a long time ago. but i doubt even then it would havve made much difference to the whole calamity that is cox atm .... Im one f the that are NOT resubscribing as there are better PvP and PvE games around wit achievements/badges aruond atm. neway to sumerise sal = god, and im outta here its been an honour and a privalidge but the game no longer interests me as it is now 1 huge fudge up and makes me bred in under 10mins
good luck and good ridance (and no i dnt care if this post is disroptive 90% of it is neway(

Can't you like make a list of your badge avatars 1 through 12, and then play the first one for a couple of days, then move onto number 2, then 3 and so on, so that by the time you'd gone through all 12, number 1 would have been offline for like 20 days or more?

You have 12 toons, play a different one each night and you will take 23 days for each day job badge (and thats assuming you play 24 hours a day). You don't really lose out that much.
[/ QUOTE ]
Doesnt work that easily, when they announced them, I parked all my alts up.
The ones I havent played all got the badges, the ones I have are only 30% done
[/ QUOTE ]
Thats because the retroactive counting appears to only have counted your last log out, not all of them put together. There is no reason it will not work now.
Its interesting, isnt it?
How we tend to make our own games within games. I mean, badges were meant to be ways to show you characters achievements as you played the game, rather than hunted for the completeness.
But gamers being gamers, some of us have made a game within a game of collect all the badges. And thats whats so great about MMOs you can play them in any way that you like, and make games within the game.
Of course with the day jobs they are adding a new system to the game, and I really dont think that it is indented that we dont play our characters in order to get them (although I too understand the lure of collecting badges). If we choose to play the game differently, its our choice and we cant really criticise the Devs for making us play that way. The system was put there for people who can only get on 2-3 times a week, so they have something nice waiting for them when they log back on, and to add a little bit more immersion into the game.
Thanks Matt, that actually made alot of sense!
It sometimes takes a different view to make someone realise the way they are viewing things.
My original post WAS a bit of a rant (frustrated badgers are a fickle lot, try pvping while we are badging in RV!!!), but also to see what others thought of the badge system.
I would disagree a bit about what badges were for tbh. There were ALWAYS gonna be the "stamp collectors" out there, but I can see what you mean that other people would get more by getting a shiney new badge, or add to their bios.
Thanks again dude!
(still annoyed though!!!!!)
It's a badge thing.......
Since I only have the one character (ever since Feb '05), and he's my badge-r, it's clear that I'm not going to 'earn' the day job badges anytime soon. I see them as a new kind of 'veteran' badge, to be honest.
I13 holds plenty for me. It's taken me two days to overhaul most of our base, and I'm sure there's another evening left of that before I'm done with it all.
I've still got 'content' to play through Ouroboros (arcs that I've never seen, that I enjoy going back to and catching up on missed plots). There's also the new content, and a contact that I have left untouched in the Shadow Shard.
After that, I have a full respec to do on my primary build, freeing up some slots and improving my IO sets. That will take money, and merits - so SG Task Forces will be run over the coming weeks.
On top of all of that, I aim to have my 400 rep PVP badge acquired by New Years (two badges in one - it comes with a gladiator).
In two weeks time, the Winter Event comes out, and I believe that there is new content / badges.
So - Issue 13 may not be a 'badge-heavy' Issue, but I've got plenty to do until I14 comes out...

Wow, did I just
change some-ones mind via the internet?? *Faints*.
Any time Sal.
Heh, I had almost forgotten the winter event was coming. Bring on those Halos
....i spent a fewminutes logging in all my toons last night, settling them in a place where the day jobs icon appeared and logged them out again, before switching back to my character i had chosen to play that evening.
When i park him up, ill load another. It's no bother for me at all. It means that while im not logged on with alts, they'll be getting the day job badges, much in the same way as they'd be getting nothing if i was playing a toon prior to I13.
Again, i'd forgotten about the Christmas event - looking forward to that
*hits Tarantula with a sledgehammer*
BOO!
And on a side note... i am scared of logging in some of my older characters, they *should* get the "On Patrol" badge immediately, if not another badge on top of that (well my villain did anyway)...
*shudders* Day Job Collector: When you have too many characters to do with.
I suppose the paradox here is that most badges represent an effort or action that was positive on behalf of the player whereas these badges seem to arise from the exact opposite ... an absence of effort.
Curious really all these badges will come, its just a matter of time, but the characters you invest least in will be the first to gain the gold ^^
TBH though I really dont understand the attraction of badge hunting unless there is some material reward at the end =/

HEATHAN!!!!!!!
The badge IS the material reward (metaphorically speaking)!!!
We must educate this poor fool!!!
Thing is, it's hard to see alot of why people play this game. Take for example those RPers in pocket d....And they say I have a problem? (well, they are right, but not the point!).
Getting badges is a motivation for some people, and as some have said here, getting em for not being online so much isn't really a good idea all round, I think.
As an indicator, I am normally on most eves, actively playing for around 2-3 hours a night, time allowing.
But since i13, I've been on about 30 mins a day, if that, and I'm currently on HOLIDAY!!!! (new baby )
So this is the most I've been inactive since I joined the game back at launch. This is as a direct approach to the new badges.
It's a badge thing.......

It's a motivator to try other characters as the offline ones work towards the badges. If you were half as determined as you faux-Serious Business attitude here indicated, you'd understand that, surely.

Hmmm, seems a bit personal!
I'll just list my toons, not boasting, just helping clarify
Salacious, Tank, 592 badges
Fantasie, Troller, 572 badges
Ellana Darkmaid and Quivers, both defenders, 544 badges each
Firespawn, Blaster, 544 badges
Lord Soth, Warshade, 544 badges
Street Cred, scrapper, 544 badges
Effigee, Blaster, 524 badges
Chilling Twilight, Corruptor, 507 badges
Electric ray, Brute, 460 badges
Lord Marshall, MM , 460 badges
R D K, Stalker, 460 badges
Silver Bane, Bane, 437 badges
Graceful Demise, Widow, 451 badges
ALL at level 50.
So in regards to your post, what toon should I "try"?
I've badged to a point Im happy with on them, and they have done all the tfs (with regards to very few). Most people that have teamed with me know I tend to play all my toons, but prefer one or two, which are my main badgeing toons.
And I think my "faux-Serious Business attitude" is a little less "Faux" now, don't you?
All seemed a little assumptive on your part there, apologees if it wasn't meant that way.

Make new ones. If you're determined enough to brag about the amount of badges you have, you're determined enough to go and experiment with new playstyles while the old characters are getting their career accolades.

Not really. If anything it seems even funnier.
LOL!
REALLY.....so it WAS personal!
I wasnt "boasting" as you say, I specifically said "just to clarify"
But ah well...read into it what you want I suppose.
And as Im now pretty much out of slots, that seems to eliminate making new alts (which I'd badge on anyway), and I'm not moving of Union just to have "something to do" with an at ive already played.
But then in your posts you've kinda missed the point. Which was - I'm a badge collector and getting badges for not doing anything seems wrong. How does everyone else feel?
Shame not everyone is as constructive as Tarantulamatt......
It's a badge thing.......
Nope, not personal. Just hilarious.
Speaking of which, there's quite a few inconsistencies when it comes to the numbers of badges across your characters. If you don't want all the badges on all your characters, you can live without a few more. I just don't see what the problem is, or why you feel the need to keep reminding everyone how much of a collector you are.
I wouldn't say "wrong" although "no real sense of achievement" is perhaps nearer to the mark, but I get your reasoning.
@SteelRat; @SteelRat2

Good point, well made
It's a badge thing.......
well you could look at its as gaining badges for having a life in the real world Sal, and if i got it right, you have spawned (not personally) the next generation of MMO players, then the more time you prepare it/him/her to take over from you, the badges are your reward....
Sal.
You did read GR response in this thread right? You WILL get those badges on every toon. It doesnt matter (much) if you play em or not.
The only thing you have to ask yourself for each of your 12 toons. Which badges do i want to collect first. I find that I am dilligent in returning to my day job spot before logging of with each toon. Which helps me identify more with my character btw.
Now you will have to make toons on zukunft and vigilance. All those slots that could be spending time logged of to collect badges!!!!!!
I am way ahead of you there
