Plus I have to say time and time again when I am running/teaming on a TF I have cringed when the different NPC's ..enemy or ally have thanked "task force weeble/tofu/athletes foot" ... seriously the names tend to be more damaging than half the AV's you encounter
I know the old saying "whats in a name" ...well severe embarrasment for one, just look at Bob Geldoffs kids
So for the second time in 10 minutes I say...

Frank Zappa named his kids Dweezle and Moon Unit because he didn't want the responsibility of naming them. So he picked names they'd want to change when they were old enough to decide on something themselves.
Neither of them did.

By that logic, let's just scrap the ability to name our chars and SGs, shall we?

Shadow, learn this little rhyme:

Ah, but there'd be no chance I'd have a character names thus, or join an SG names as such.
But joining a PuG, my options would be to leave on something silly as an embarassing name or shake my head at my perception of stupidity among my fellow gamers.
So, because I see no gain from this suggestion, I /unsign

pay my subs and I'll think about letting you decide my game for me.
If a team can set a name, I'd say it'd be needed to be able to search for said teamnames. Otherwise, what's the point other then npc dialoge that'd no doubt become much more bulky codewise if they have to add an 'if then, else' check in there.
PS. I prefer the Ghost part of my forum name

Love this idea.

Also:
I remember that in one mission your team is given a name by the mission giver. And the NPCs you save do thank you by that team-name.
Ofcause the team-name and what the npcs say in this case are all pre-scripted, and not something random.
thanks for the replys, glad people like it!!

well its just abit of fun and im sure serious teams wouldnt make a stupid name(or even use it), and the teams who are up for the laugh would ^^'
Task Forces, okay...for normal teams...seems a bit...useless...as many teams do not exist very long and are not really serious...as in: We need a name serious.
Of course you still have people who do regularly team together...
But if you get in a PuG you don't know what kind of team it is...and I personally wouldn't want to be in team called: Superhamsters from Mars or something.
I like Jupiter better.

lol, get in a team called power rangers and come as a giant dragon, they'll go all "aahhh, monster, let's kill him"

And surely that (and maybe seeing teamname when sent an invite) would actually help filter out the odd team...
I probably wouldn't join the team if sent an invite to '1337 n00b-pwnzors gods of ubern3ss'... but an un-named team or a team showing a good sense of humour would be a different matter.
And I could see this being useful/fun to some people (regular teams, SG teams, RPers) so I'm all for it.

Nah - no 'if then else' everywhere...
Could use an internal team_name variable that sets to:
* character name when solo;
* "Team teamname" for named teams
* something generic for unnanmed teams (e.g. "all of you")
And write the dialogue to accomodate all 3 possibilities.
So "Thanks for saving me, [team_name]!" could become :
* "Thanks for saving me, Judgement Dave!"
* "Thanks for saving me, team Redemption!"
* "Thanks for saving me, all of you!"
You'd cut down the number of conditional control structures needed to something like setting the internal team_name when joining/leaving/creating teams and upon team name changes. The actual dialog code could remain about as complex as it is now to allow character names to be used (or automatic team names in TF/SFs).

I would be happy if the npc's would recognize that a team is attacking/rescuing them. Because now they'll always just say the name of the mission owner(I think).
So even the "All of you" would make it feel more like a team effort.

Sounds good to me, Is it the leaders choice of team name or group decision?

Leader's choice, anything else is too hard to implement.

yeah i think if they were to put it in, this would be the way it would probably happen
I sincerely doubt that this will improve things. You get silly names or default ones and you need to redo the naming every time you start teaming. It might work if you rework the whole teaming thing with new search engines and such.
I rather have the devs work on something else to be honest.
I'd be up for this idea - a sense of team identity might help keep PuGs together for a bit longer than the 'two mishes then dissolve' that seems to happen a lot.
i was just teaming and came up with this idea, i think it'd be fun just to have the option there to name your team, so instead of a hostage thanking 1 person in the team they can thank 'the team'
i also think this would be good for RP'ing and SG teaming/TFs
