Merits for Story Arcs
[ QUOTE ]
I know many people wont mind, but I suspect some will.
Perviously the relatively small xp bonus and an SO would be nothing to shout about.
However, 5 merits would count towards (say) 2.5% of a Miracle +Recovery Recipe. They go for about 50 million at bare minimum. 5 merits is thus around 1.25 million influence. Thats an awful lot more than the aproximate bonus of around 100k tops you get at the moment. And thats just considering level 50.
To my mind a reasonable solution would be 1 merit to every team member completing the last mission of the arc.
Ouroborous missions, keep the same system.
[/ QUOTE ]
But if 5 merits are worth 1,250,000 inf then 1 is worth 250,000 so a team member can join for the final mission of an arc and gain a quarter of a million infs worth of merits for finishing one mission where as the arc owner who has worked on the whole arc gets the same?
I think the SO's given as a reward for completing an arc were desirable before inventions came along. Inventions have rendered them worthless and therefore the arc reward needed updating for the game post i9 I think that merits have given the devs the tools to give suitable rewards as I would imagine the only other thing they could have done was give a recipe which opens up a whole other kettle of fish of risk/time vs reward.
Kneeling girls! Statues driving cars! What's going on? Ten years ago a man was arrested in the area for driving statues around in a car. Was it him?

But one thing you forget is that the merit system is a complement to the current system not a replacement, so you can still get recipes from the AH etc.
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually it is a replacement, you won't get random recipes anymore from TF/Trial after I13 goes live so it will replace the way TF and Trial Poole recipes were obtained.

Actually, its not a replacement, you can still get recipes in the AH, and if you read the I13 stuff, you will also see that with merits you can still get a random recipe too. This as well as the normal random drops anyway.
A replacement would indicate that you can only get recipes from the Merit Vendors.

As far as I know, the AH recipes from TF/Trial Pools come from people who did TFs or Trials and put them for sale, not from thin air, hence if you don't get more from TFs/Trials, it is a replacement.
In any case, it is not complementary to existing system since under current system, you get a rare recipe reward upon TF/Trial completion and after I13 you won't.

Okay I will make allowances as you obviously havent been playing for long, but you also get recipes at other times while playing, not only from trials and tfs.
That still stands as far as we know, so therefore it is a complement and NOT a replacement.

SOs as a reward were desirable, but in the way a Chomp is desirable, not in the way that a Ferrari is desirable. They were attainable and easy to get. Sure, early on it was worth doing the respec trial just so you could sell off your current set to finance your next loadout when you levelled into the next band but once you were in your 30-40s, they weren't much of a big deal.
One way of getting around the teaming issue would be to slightly rejig the way contacts and missions work so that it's easier to synch with a PUG. Say, if you complete a mission from a story arc as part of a team you get the end-of-mish clue that points you to the next mish, same as the leader. Get X of these clues (say 3 or 4?) and you get "introduced" to the contact for the mishes so you can now join the active investigation and take on the missions. You can now synch with the team so you're all working towards a common goal ; if you finish the arc you can collect your merits ; if you leave the team, all that work wasn't for nothing - you can finish the arc on your own ; if you just breeze in to the group for the last couple of missions you get nothing barring the XP.
I;m worried what impact the merit system will have on getting people to help you out if you hit an EB/AV-shaped wall at the end of an arc that you can't solo-fender your way through. Will you still get the odd benign offer of help from an exemped 50 or will you be shunned as a merit-[censored]?

Okay, all insults aside - shazan, please READ what Nighmarer said.
Normal recipe drops will happen as normal, yes. No one is denying that. But there is a pool of recipes that ONLY currently drop if you select the "Random Rare Recipe" option on completion of TF's and Trials. That drop is being abolished. No one will ever get it again. EVER. The ONLY way to get thos recipes, after I13, is to spend merits on them.
Thus, for the Rare TF/Trial Recipes, the method if getting them is being REPLACED.

Perhaps if his post had been as well explained as yours then I would not have mistakenly posted.
Thats fine then, I apologise for being wrong.

I didnt understand till the other poster said
You really dont know when to stop do you.
I have already accepted that I misunderstood and apologised and you are still having a go.
Maybe its a cultural thing and u r just rude because its accepted.

Excuse me? Would you care to ellaborate on that? Baceuse it seemed a bit rude to me, as I am also Spanish.
Or maybe I am reading too much in it.
What shazan is saying is that once an apology has been given, it is an indication that he accepts that he was wrong, and there is no need to continue referring to the misunderstanding or rudeness that triggered the conflict in the first place. That's the general UK opinion on apologies.
By continuing, Nightmarer just made the sitaution worse, when there was no need to.
in my opinion, this particular point can be dropped, and reasonable discussion on the basis of the facts we have available to us should now resume, without personal attacks or comments.

There seems to be a fine line being tread here, maybe its time to take a step back and have a cuppa.

Not getting an SO reward is no huge deal, seeing as you afford them in forkfulls by the time you hit fifty.
Saying this system is complimentary to the AH/BM only really works if this deals a KO to the stupidly high prices on Procs and globals. 11 mil, 20mil, 50mil...those just aren't options for a lot of people, and I just hope that the Merit system somehow helps that, and doesnt just make it a whole lot worse...

If they keep dumbing this game down and making everything any easier than it is, no one will have any goals.
