NC hire David Nakayama
Oh, wow, that's just awesome.
I was lucky enough to fork out a small fortune for the pride of my DTWT sketch collection, entitled Shadowe and... friends?
Damn, the guy can draw.
The wisdom of Shadowe: Ghostraptor: The Shadowe is wise ...; FFM: Shadowe is no longer wise. ; Techbot_Alpha: Also, what Shadowe said. It seems he is still somewhat wise ; Bull Throttle: Shadowe was unwise in this instance...; Rock_Powerfist: in this instance Shadowe is wise.; Techbot_Alpha: Shadowe is very wise *nods*; Zortel: *Quotable line about Shadowe being wise goes here.*
Oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooohhhhh.... Now I'm intrigued!
Edit: Actually nm, it's obvious from the NCNC.

Cackles and prepares to spam "I told you so" to everyone who doubts NCSofts plans for CoX.

This leaves me thinking, what are they building up to?

City of Heroes comics and artwork
Nice to see they're still pumping money into CoX... pretty rare for a game that by industry standards, is getting pretty old.
I'm also intrigued as to what the masterplan might be - maybe they're cooperating with Maxis to produce a hero-themed Sims expansion pack, or maybe they plan to introduce superpets. Bagsy the name 'Bonzo the Wonderhound' when they do.
DON'T eat muffins while I'm developing you.
Pants! Turkey Magnates! A man in a box! Rogue AI! Come one, come all, to arc ID 10107 - It's 'Not as long as some other arcs'!

Absolutely. I'm really looking forward to I15 now, I'm hoping for a big announcement.
I think we're supposed to be getting something else this week aren't we? According to the article in the OP:

With Alex 'Lighthouse' Von Minden alluding to new announcements in the pipeline - 'we have some other news this week besides Issue 13, but you'll have to wait to find out' - and now this prestigious new hire, City of Heroes players will be wondering just what their development team is planning.

Yay for the return of the comic! (If it ever happens!)

I'm sorry, I'll just... feel that again
Intriguing news. When the comics folded, there was alleged to be a published periodical made from fan content but that idea seemed to die a death.
I can't see a new line of comics sadly, I don't think NCNC can make them profitable enough even using one of the independant publishers. However a quarterly something featuring fan content and a continuing story drawn by David and published via the NC store and/or online could well be a useful marketing tool

i still don't get the facination with the city vault, what because wow has a armory website now every mmo needs it? seriously i'd rather they keep putting time into the game and keeping it great
not sure if you're in the right thread but to answer your city vault question:
I wasnt aware WoW had an armoury or any other out of game site... The reason I would like the city vault is , when I'm logged into CoH I would like to actually be *playing* CoH and not testing out base plans or working out what I need for x or y accolade. Or what salvage I need to buy for x or y IO. I think some way to access this data online (read: when I'm bored at work or on a train) would be very useful to me and would enhance my enjoyment of the game itself. I'm not sure the vault will do what I would like but you never know. I'm sure others have their reasons too and some are possibly more valid than mine.
Back on topic: Wasnt sure who David Nakayama was but a quick google later and I have to say , thumbs aloft. I like his artwork

I really hope that's not it.
I mean, the artwork would be great but the writing?
I'd much rather he be working on designs for future game improvements. If I want comics, I'll go to my comic shop and buy them.

Well when I saw "NCsoft hires Concept artist" I immediately thought zone re-visions/re-designs - possibly costume options. But whereas not every Illustrator is also a designer, and not every designer is also an Illustrator - I believe the good ones have a little of both in them even if they are not prominant.
David appears (by the look of his website gallery) to be mainly a character artist (a darn good one I might add) whereas dyed-in-the-wool concept designers like Ryan Church are famed for enviromental scenes that set a design and mood for an in-house design team to follow on a project.
Other examples like Dermot Power are famed for their creature and costume concepts and Doug Chiang who is well known for his technically precise sci-fi machine drawings.
With regard to David being hired I would guesstimate NCsoft to profit from his speciality with regards to City of Heroes/Villains.... Its got to be (the former) a revival of the comics/graphic novels - or (the latter) perhaps new creature/Hero/villain designs if he can turn his hand to that, or possibly artwork for official City of Heroes merchandise if thats ever to truely take off.
I'd put money on the former personally.
Whilst I'm inclined to agree with you, since with his experience revitalising the comics seems most likely, I hope that it isnt the case. In my mind, they are unlikely to make any money off such a venture. The comics would not have the market penetration with comic circles to encourage new players to the game, and if the sold the comics (an idea I find unlikely based on the prior free distribution) they would only be bought by current avid players, probably in quantities insufficient to justify his salary.
I hope that he is, instead, involved with adding to the game in some way. Character development for CoX2 mayhaps??

As if it weren't lucky enough that some of you received character sketches from David Nakayama at Omega Sektor MiniCon, you can claim to have your character drawn by a genuine CoH concept artist.
That's right, David has been hired by NCNC as a concept artist, taking their total up to 3 (up from 0 a couple of years ago). David is a big hire, having previously drawn comics for Marvel as well as doing some of the City Of Heroes comics.
Source - Massively but revealed at HeroCon (sorry if this was posted elsewhere, did have a quick gander).
This leaves me thinking, what are they building up to?
