lower the log-out time

i know the game needs time to log out for security reasons, but it surely doesn't even need 5 seconds, so 30 seconds is a bit to high.
i do think that, to keep it secure, a 10 second time should not hurt.
it's very annoying to make a character, find out that you don't like the powers you choose from the beginning, and then have to wait longer then needed only to remove and remake the character.

wow

Complaining about an extra 20/25 seconds of your life being wasted at log-out times. That is a new low

/unsigned. Utterly pointless. Perfectly fine as it is

also, this may free you from those agonising 30 seconds

I thought the logout delay was to stop people starting a fight, realising they can't win then logging out to prevent a defeat. Your character stays ingame for that 30 seconds.

Pretty much exactly what the reason is, yes. It's nothing technical, it's a social rule. If it was technical, there would be no Exit Now button when you logout to desktop.

just like posting in this forum, and taking a seat....really, a game is to relax, but with a small time to relax it's annoying to have time waisted all the time...think things trough before you shove things away..shees.

If you can't handle 30 seconds wait, you need to re-assess your priorities in life.

And we did explain why it's as long as it is.

I don't mind the 30 second wait for logging out, but I would like to see the "press any key to cancel" thing adjusted a bit so you can alt-tab while you're waiting.

This would be nice, if not absolutely essential.

I would like a "Return back to character selection screen" option instead of login screen.

I believe this has been requested a few times, but I agree it would be a great QoL feature.

yeah it's off topic, but meh...

Assuming you're on a recent MS windows...
1. Bring up the quit window (the one with 2 buttons, something like: quit to login & quit to desktop)
2. Press and hold the windows/start menu key
3. Click the quit to login (or whatever the exact wording is..)
4. Release the windows/start menu key

Should get the windows start menu and task bar appear whilst the countdown merrily continues... so click the application you want to switch to and be doing other things whilst the 30-second timer counts down.

The 30 second timer is there to prevent potential exploits using rapid logout/login and is unlikely to be changed.

shortened quote

While I understand the need for the 30 second timer, as CoX is very alt-friendly in other areas it would make sense if switching between characters was more convenient. Also, I suspect that the people annoyed by the 30 second timer are actually annoyed by the fact they cannot do anything during those 30 seconds.
So my suggestion:
When quitting to logout, a button with quit now is shown that, well, quits, but the toon stays in game (and can be attacked) for the full 30 seconds. And after a fast exit a timer for the remaining part of the original 30 (plus maybe 5-10 more, thats how long it usually takes to log into game+choose server) seconds is shown and "entering the world" is only possible once the timer has run out. So the timer is still there but people can use that time to log into game, choose server and select character.

How about borrowing a concept from TheOtherGame™?

Logging off in safe areas lets you log out imidiately?
SG bases, PD.. um, find a way to designate other safe area's, like area around a police drone?

At the same time, logging out in a risky area (like a PvP zone) could take longer? 1 minute or so? *shrugs* this is just an after thought that wouldn't be popular, I think.

Designating safe logout places will be easier than you think: the entire new "day jobs" system is based on knowing where the character logs out
Of course that does not mean such differing logout timers will be implemented - but it can be done.
