Group Fly Alternative: Air Supremacy

Group Fly

In over 2.5 years playing this game, I can only recall a couple of players who ever took it. I also recall that whenever they used it, the rest of the team mostly had a blue fit. It's a waste of a vaulable pool power as it stands IMO and needs addressing. Most of the other Tier 4 pools are pretty good, but Group Fly... well, frankly it's a dogpile.

What alternatives are there?

If you've ever studied military strategy you'll probably be aware that Air Superiority is the first thing a commander looks for, and we already have that, a quite highly praised power with an excellent knockdown effect. So it could be built upon quite easily with the next stage in aipower, Air Supremacy - in real terms that means the enemy cannot realistically put any aircraft into the air to challenge your own air forces. In game terms that could be a PBAoE knockdown - so as you hover there and raid down death from above you get swamped by flying minions... you fire off Air Supremacy and hey presto... they cease to bother you for a while

That to me doesn't seem too out of keeping with Whirlwind for example, or Acrobatics in reverse... so keeps parity and gives the flight pool a worthwhile power for PVP too

Like a PBAoE knockback/down/up only useable while fly/hover is active?

Sounds good- Something definatly needs to be done though, as, as you say, noone takes it.

The only time I've seen it used (Since the beta) is when we were in one of those horrid caves full of CoT, and in the middle of the battle, some dude decided to turn it on. The speed was AWFUL, and we all ended up dying as we couldnt retreat fast enough, and there was nothing you could do to turn it off...

Poo power!

I believe that Masterminds find Group Fly fairly useful...

There are a few MMs that use it to keep their pets safe - guaranteed to annoy team mates who need to be on the ground though.
The only other times I've seen it used were on the old style Hami Raids for the PA drop teams.


Mind of Gaia lvl 50 Defiant's first Mind/Storm 'troller.
Deadly Doc 50 Dark/Dark Corr
and lots more on Pinnacle,Union and Defiant

there is one power i know that might be fun to have, but i dunno if marvel is gonna wave there license tab because of cannonball.
be able to lance your self against a target, so you do extreme damage and knocking the enemy away a bit, but in return you're stunned and lose a bit of health.(2% or so)
i know it's not the best, but might make things interesting.

Like that alternative, PBAoE knockdown would be incredibly useful.

I think the only times I've seen Group Fly used is when fighting the various incarnations of The Hamidon....oh yeah and on the Eden Trial once.

Personally, I would love a toggle with fly protection, so that I would be harder to knock out of the air. Maybe even a bit of defense in it (range / AoE).

An AoE knockdown might be a bit to much, to useful when you are flying just above ground. But a mid range PBAoE with -fly -jump (but no knockdown) could serve the same function while in the air. And could be used to keep flying mobs from escaping throe the air.

Was under the impression it was -fly, not knock-down...

One thing though... apart from the Sky Skiffs, Witches and such, there aren't really very many 'flying' enemies. There's enemies that hover off the ground, but fly?

One thing I always hated. I would have loved to have flying battles with elemental Outcasts over the Hollows, but it just doesn't happen. No knocking thugs into the Gulch with AS.

Yeah, at least the Air aspected ones should be able to fly dagnabbit! So that they could have been punched/kicked/blasted/bolted into next Tuesday*.

Thus i'm sure it'd be just as 'un-picked' as Group Fly, but with less use (Group Fly = ace, for LGTF Hami if you're feeling lazy, and the real deal). It might be nice in PvP/concept, but 'meh' besides...nowhere near as good as accrobatics, if you're trying to steer away from uselessness.

Can't see it being popular, but not a terrible idea

So far nobody's been able to make a case for group fly (who does hami any more anyhow?) so it seems something needs to be done with it and sure this might not make it the most popular power but it seems to have generated a more popular response than negative so maybe the Devs could look at that

I find it extremely annoying being dropped from the sky every 5 mins fighting anything else but council...

just a question, do you have a knockback attack and teleport?
when you use these 2 powers at ones, you can smack someone down without getting the first hit.

I don't think too many people would have Fly and Teleport and not all powersets have KB... it's one issue for my Elec/Elec... there's only two KB powers in there and I've only ever taken one

[/ QUOTE ]If it's a bit of a mix between acro and weave, with the penalty of having to be using hover, then it's cheap at the price IMO.

I'm not sure it would drain more than any other toggle... please explain why you think it would be problematic. It should be slottable for End Redux anyhow
