Multi Builds

A technically easy solution to this would be to halve the cost of all purchased enhancements and crafting rates, and double the recipe and invention salvage drop rates.

[/ QUOTE ]

And the capacity for same, given that otherwise you'd fill up in no time at all.

I'm cautiously optimistic about this. It's good news for many defenders and other types with anaemic soloing - even if I can't afford a second set of extraordinary IOs, the benefit of dropping all the team powers and taking attacks and useful pool powers will far exceed that.

2- Use cheaper enhancements: common IOs, SOs. This way, your second build will be effectively less powerful than the first, and the resulting feeling will be... disappointment.

[/ QUOTE ]

The effect of IO sets is so small you would be pushed to notice any difference.

[/ QUOTE ]
Unless you're using sets for Frankenslotting - the extra total values can be very significant in that case.

Although there are cheap Frankenset-based options for most powers.

I'm really looking forward to this.

Need to get Mac switching between pure tanker team player build and a more balanced solo build.

My brute will also probably take adventage of this, but i cant think of many other toons I have that can really take advantage of this feature apart from maybe my corr between damage and buff builds.

But as I don't play as defenders or trollers... or stalkers... or domis... and rarely as blasters, theres a lot of untapped potential in this for me and will probably encourage me to play as a wider variety of classes.

Don't get me wrong though, I have tried with them but I can't seem to make it much past lvl 20 without getting bored of them.

Actually thinking about it now, It's going to be so useful for my crab spider if I fancy a switch to a bane spider... providing it works that way...

Also as someone said earlier in the thread WS/PBs will benefit greatly from this, More so than just about any class in the game IMO.
This way it will actually be possible to use all three forms effectively as in one build with human form and the second as a maxed out squiddy/dwarf build. It'll still be a gimped jack of all trades, but slightly less gimped imo.

However seeing as the current concern is more about how much inf do we have to spend now to get a fully IO'd character? I would hope that a system is implemented to let us use the same enhs on both builds.

After all it's still attached to the same character.

I would treat it as MPD. If your holding a knife(read: enhancements) and you change personas (read: builds) your the same body with the same knife. You just use it differently.

I don't agree.
The difference of having or not having five Crushing Impact sets slotted is 25% recharge and 35% accuracy. Definitely I would notice that in my SS/Electric brute.

Knockback protection and stealth are obviously noticeable too.

Even more obscure and singly small bonuses, like Recovery bonuses, are noticable. For example my Grav/TA omits the Fitness pool because he's got 22.5% recovery from sets (with no impact on Enhancement values).

Having 3 extra power choices available is pretty noticable.

Heard of Crushing Impact? Tiny fraction of the cost.

I really should do something about this signature.

Sorry, I don't understand. I mean really, no disrespect or anything other here. I do not understand your post but I think is directed at me (for the Crushing Impact reference).

Yes. Crushing Impact gives better enhancemnt bonuses than Mako's Bite, and costs much less.

Who brought up Mako's Bite?

Sorry, I thought we wher talking about Mako, my mistake. Crushing Impact is dirt cheep, i don;'t know what you are worring about.

As Standoff says, you get more benefit from frankenslotting anyway, and you don't need expensive sets for that.

Well, maybe Crushing Impact is cheaper than Mako's Bite, but it is not in any way "cheap". Specially villain-side.
You can end up paying like 2-4 millions for the expensive ones (3 of each 5) and 0.5-1 million for the cheaper ones (2 of each 5). This makes each set of five cost about 11 millions. Multiply that for 5... 55 millions plus salvage plus crafting cost. And the availability is another factor to consider... again, specially villain-side.

PD: I know the set has 6 enhancements, but the last set bonus does not interest me and the aspects I want to enhance in my attack powers are enhanced enough with 5 enhancements.

That's true. Frankenslotted my MM's fluffy with 4 ToHit debuff/Recharge IOs (well 2 of em and 2 -ToHit/Recharge/End) for very little yesterday. 4 slots and have a perma Dark Servant who floors ToHit and casts his powers almost twice as fast as normal for under 1 million for all 4.

I'm sure some people would 5 slot him for the Recharge bonus but in terms of Fluffies usefulness 1 acc and that Frankenslotting is far, far superior to me than a tiny little bit extra recharge (which my MM would have bugger all to do anyway).

Posted

Frankenslotting tends to be better in utility powers with diverse effects. My Dark Servant is franknslotted, too as are most powers of my characters.

In the attack powers though, I think some sets give very good slotting of ACC, DAM, RECH and END and also very good set bonuses: Thunderstrike, Crushing Impact are two good examples of this.

Then there are characters whose high-performance relies a lot in the set bonuses: SR scrappers with soft-capped defense come to mind and also fire or dark tankers that do not want to go the Acrobatics route and need a couple anti-KB IOs. I am sure wer all can think ina couple or more examples where some set bonuses really do pay.

Anyway, we are maybe drifting a bit away from the Multi-builds topic.
All in all, I hope (against all hope, probably) that we can copy our enhancements in the second build.

Slotting with one or two bits of an IO set along with common IOs (or HOs later on) purely for the Enhancement values and not caring about the Set bonuses.

My favourite example is my Grav/TA who has EMP Arrow slotted with 4 Acc/Hold/Recharge IOs (one from each set), over 80% enhancement in 3 areas in just 4 slots.

If you cherry-pick the IOs based on their price and the price of the salvage they use you can get great enhancement values for excellent prices. Very useful, especially for anyone tight on slots like Dominators, Defender blasts or Khelds.

It's like the opposite end of the scale to those pie-in-the-sky builds one sees with weird things like Snow Storm 5 slotted with Tempered Readiness just for a 5% Recharge bonus (and most of the Enhancement values going wasted or being next to useless)

From what I've read on the US forums the assumption is that multi builds will allow you to use existing IO's and share them where as appropriate.

As stated below.

[ QUOTE ]
By visiting any Trainer you can switch the entire build of your character to an alternate one.

[/ QUOTE ]

To me "Entire build" would include IO's

L50s: Tanks: Cryofission - Ice/EM - Dr Celsius - Fire/Ice - Saint George - SD/SS | Controllers: Psichosis - Ill/Kin - Major Chaos - Ill/Stm | Scrappers - Neutron Crusader - DM/SR

Currently Levelling: Angelic Blade - BS/WP Scrapper | Seeds of Destruction - Plant/Kin Controller

Further to my last post which was based on early reading of the US Controller forum, apparently you will need to buy new Enhancements for a second build.

Seems indeed the case.

And another I13 feature _for me_ down the drain. Along with the leveling pact, it is a easy case for me.. join the farm side.

Might I suggest something.

PvE isn't any more difficult than it was when we had SOs, so simple IOs will do, then with PvE you could have a build that's team orientated as well. You do what you do best.

Then have the other build about soloing and self sustainability which is often fine for PvP although with somebuilds I would throw in some team based powers and make this your IO set build as PvP is going to be hard depending on who you face and soloing is going to be better if you're self sustainable and more offensively perhaps more selfishly built.

Effectively you could have 2 characters for the price of one very cheaply.

Ah... once again I find out I'm doing something with a name without knowing what I was doing. Yeah, I Frankenslot pretty heavily.

Frankly, I slot set items, IOs and SOs in Crow. What's the point of replacing an SO with an IO when it is going to, literally, make absolutely no difference to the value you are changing? I think a 53 SO has about the same value as a 50+ IO, plus ED makes IOs less valuable where you can 3 slot...

A 53 SO gives about the same level of enhancement as a lvl 35 IO - a lvl 50 gives about 10% extra

Mind of Gaia lvl 50 Defiant's first Mind/Storm 'troller.
Deadly Doc 50 Dark/Dark Corr
and lots more on Pinnacle,Union and Defiant

Level 53 Damage SO = 38.3% bonus on a level 50 hero.
Level 50 Damage IO = 42.4% bonus.
Level 35 Damage IO = 36.7% bonus.
Level 40 Damage IO = 38.6% bonus.

Level 40 Damage IO, and about 4% absolute difference in bonus, assuming only one IO (since even 2 will be subject to ED scaling).
