Yes, the explosion power was, indeed, a no-brainer... i.e. it's a glorious roleplayer griefing tool which the developers have handed to every jackass who chooses to buy it. We can but hope the novelty wares off soon.

If you're referring to the "Just a" characters, then had you got involved with the RP and joined the people defusing stuff, then you'd of seen that there were ways to stop of it.

Of course you could also sit there and moan about it OOC, after all wouldn't want to spoil that aspect of your game enjoyment.

[/ QUOTE ]

So, let me get this straight... you WANT to force me to do something I don't want to do? You think it's OKAY to force me to RP a scenario that I want no part of?

Wrong.

I have as much right to RP there as anyone else, but I also have a right to pick which RP situations I want to get involved in. What happened last night was at the very least god-moding (forcing characters to get involved in something they didn't want to, and a cardinal RP sin), and if it wasn't that, then it was griefing (actively trying to spoil the enjoyment of other people playing the game).

I'm not moaning for the sake of it, I'm asking that people give the same consideration for other RPers that I do, and not force them to break character or get involved in what was, quite frankly, and in my opinion only, a stupid and pointless 'plot' (I use the word loosely) designed for no better purpose than to show off the shiny new power.

Not at all, MaX. But RPers don't drop their nukes five times a night after they get them at L32/38. Yet it happened last night, for some reason.

If someone did drop their nuke five times in a single night, we'd be slating them, too.

Anoying as it sounds once the novelty has worn of the griefer will dissapear. In the meanwhile I advice you to go to a place less public or even restricted (like an sg base).

I doubt that petitioning will help. Better to global ignore the player. He will find it hard to team with anybody in the future if he keeps anoying people.

There was no character motivation. There was player motivation to show off a new and shiny power, and it could have just as easily been done elsewhere.

People tend to get involved, because they think there's something they can do. You proved that wrong, and it stopped being a plot and became a railroad.

Actually, yes, you are. And therin lies the problem. You're saying "Either join in, or break character by ignoring something happening". Because to ignore it, I had to break character. But I didn't want to get involved. Perhaps, once you'd gathered your little group of people who wanted to be railroaded, you could have moved, politely, a short distance away so as not to disturb those of us who weren't interested, like we asked you to, politely, but you ignored and decided to force your railroad on us. So we moved.

So basically everyone needs to check with you and whether you, feel like acting in character or not?

If you decide you don't want to get involved, then the decision is all up to you, like every time you ignore a Rikti raid happening in another zone, exact same situation in fact.

Realistically most 'hero' characters, should IC go to fight of the Rikti, even if they don't participate in the actual Game play fight.

But ah excuse me I didn't know one of your powers, was a fun negating zone, where only events that have been double checked with you can happen in a certain radius.

Computer games companies define 'roleplaying' as playing a computer roleplaying game, yes. However, that's a circular argument.

Whatever, the roleplaying we are talking about is actually acting in character, talking to other people as if you were your character, perhaps even pretending that your character has a life where they don't where a stupid costume and get shot at.

Under those circumstances, some pillock coming up and exploding next to them for no good/contrived reason is called 'annoying', not 'a great RP tool.' (Though the people doing certainly are great RP tools themselves. )

This is an old argument that's NEVER going to settled, but comes down to one thing. Manners.

Contrary to what you might think, some people at the statue MIGHT just have their own things they want to do that night. When someone comes along and does something which, if people want to stay in character, they CANNOT ignore, then you are forcing YOUR fun on THEM. This is also known as god-modding and is widely considered to be just about the rudest thing you can do to another RPer.

No one is saying you can't do that, but the polite thing to do is to NOT do it right in the middle of a crowded area, and disrupt what other people want to do.

Now, no doubt you'll say that they should just move, but really, why should they? In all likelyhood, they were already at the statue, so it should be the ones with the "plot" who move.

Would you like it if the tables were reversed and someone ruined your plans for the evening? It's easy enough to counter your bag thing, but we choose not too as, once again, it's rude to do so. Is it REALLY so hard to treat others with equal respect?

Had I been asked to move I would of done so, after all RP wise I was playing an inanimate object, all it would of taken was a tell or two to have the objects moved away from the 'citizens'. However instead we have a situation where one group decides that rather than communicating to the other group, they'll just [censored] about it on the boards.

Globals might of helped but I tend not to read GGOOC when RPing, as the current massive rants about everything from capacitor advancements in microchips to transhumanism and the effect on the NHS, get distracting to say the least.

We were ignored.

So saying that we're just going off about it on the boards is a load of poppycock, because at the time you REFUSED to do anything about it, even when directly asked, politely. That's bad manners.

Might I take this opportunity to advertise the wonder that is Defiant. I wasn’t on last night, but I don’t think there will have been any griefers around GG.

Defiant – Like the Culture part of the forums, it’s where the fun really happens.

It staggers me that any of you are SURPRISED at the actions being described here. The game is full of rude idiots who's personal brand of "humour" is to infuriate the the hell out of as many people as they can in as short a possible time. Surely it's a "no brainer" that a power like the self destruct one is going to be music to the ears of these kinds of people.

As annoying as it is, it ain't going to stop any time soon. So just grit your teeth, petition if necessary, and wait for the novelty to wear off.

As I've said before, CoH is a great game. It's just that a small (but seemingly and rather worringly increasing) part of the player base make it a place I'm wanting to be less and less.

Then Shadowe is incorrect, I was never asked to move, in fact I just checked my chat logs for every single tell I received that day, also looked over GGOOC and can't see a message there.

On a side note anyone know a chat parser? It's bloody tough on the eyes reading it in a text document.

Try reading local. You know, the channel where all the RP takes place. Where we asked you to either stop spamming Self-desrtuct, or move away.

Zortel and Veskit aren't on GGOOC, so they wouldn't have said anything there.

A tell would of been politer and more importantly, something that doesn't rely on range for me to pick up.

I just went through the damn chat log again and I get this

09-17-2008 21:33:56 [Local] Shadowe: <color #ababad><bgcolor #010101>((Okies))

I also get a

09-17-2008 21:33:29 [Local] Erica the Butler: <color #0101ff><bgcolor #5ca3ff>((What Z said))

From pointy.

Now if some could tell me what Z's name was I might be able to see if it was a message even picked up by my chat, 'cus between those are a lot of global talk.

Ah you mean that ridiculously fast scrolling chat, that is hard to keep a conversation going with a single other person, assuming more than two conversations are going on in the area?

Let along keep up with out of character stuff, from some one else's conversation.

A /tell would of been politer, and actually noticed.
