Masterminds - Get those lobotomised, door blocking, corridor jamming pets OUT OF MY WAY! RARGH!

[/ QUOTE ]This is why I've struggled to get a MM over 30. Yes they're easy to solo, but they take ages to set up, (even the best) controlled pets go heywire too often, and getting round a cave is a complete nightmare (when teamed).

Personally, I find my regen is more or less fire-and-forget.

[/ QUOTE ]Still? I mean, sure it was before the nerfs, but now that we have four clicky powers that boost our survivability I find it to be a very reaction-based set.

[/ QUOTE ]

*shrug* Yeah, still. As I said above, I find IR isn't terribly reaction-based. I usually hit it just before a fight if I think I'll run into trouble. You may be right, though, maybe WP is the new "easy mode Scrapper" defense set.

WP doesn't have a self heal and it is both resistance / typed defence based (plus regeneration ofc).

[/ QUOTE ]

I looked it up. The Stalker version has a Reconstruction. Indomitable Will gives you some +Def (psi). Aside from that, it seems to be more or less a resistance set with some bits of Regen glued in. That should, indeed, make a very good combination. Lots of toggles, I'd imagine endurance management is a pain in the early levels.

Indeed it has, we were talking scrappers / brutes though

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes, Indomitable Will gives you around 10% psi def, Heightened Senses gives around 15% - 20% typed defence (can't remember the exact figure).

Edit The resistances to fire - cold - energy - neg are pitiable though, around 9%, decent psi resistance (30ish%) and no toxic resistance. Smashing / Lethal res are around 35%.

Can't remember the exact figures for smashing/lethal resistance and for typed defences of the set itself because the figures I have in mind are including Tough/Weave/CJ. Including these three powers, your WP scrapper should have around 52% smashing/lethal res, 32% psi res, 10% psi def, 26% def against energy - neg - fire - cold and 9% res against energy - neg - fire - cold

It is really a combination of defence/resistance/regeneration/high HP, don't think can be defined a resistance or defense set. In fact Castle himself referred to WP as jack of all trades, master of nothing (or close enough)

okies to rephrase my scrapper brute pvp quote

scrappers only have to put up with blaster abuse in arena or WB, brutes have to put up with blaster abuse in BB,SC,WB,RV and Arena

I know it is a bit like comparing apple and orange. But I only just started playing scrapper and I have been playing brutes for a while. I want know how brute compare to scrapper, for example, damage output or survivability, etc.

Fool - apples have by far the superior DPS.

I find myself much more compelled to continue fighting to the very last drop of health or endurance as a Brute, whilst a Scrapper always feels alot more precise whether specialising in crowd control, or single target takedown.

That said I found my Dual Blades/Willpower Scrapper blurring the lines a lot more because DB combos introduce a time-critical factor into fighting in a similar way to Fury - that hunger to leap onto the next critter mid-way through an attack chain so as not to 'waste' the resulting combination which other Scrappers lack by nature.

On a face-to-face basis I'd generally put my money on the Scrapper because its special ability does not require building up. That said I'm sure that same Scrapper would be reticent about facing a /Stone Brute.

Oo, sounds interesting. I may have found my next alt.

Re: WP, yeah, I missed that +Def on Hightened Senses. Okay, WP really is just a really weird set. Must try it.

Brutes are "Mwahahahaha. Smash! Destroy!"
Scrappers are more "Hahah! Have at you, knave!"

I forgot to mention, DB/WP also adds Brute-like tendancies because with 'Rise to the Challenge' (aggro toggle that gives +Regen for each enemy in range) you have an additional Brute-like incentive to wade into the middle of a group of mobs.

Beware of crying out, "No worries, my regen is awesome!" and Spartarring into a large mob and face planting in front of your team, much to their amusement.

If by sophistication and style you mean slow? Then yeah....I guess I see your point.

RttC I always find fun, the momentary delay between the mobs attacking and the your regen kicking in can be pretty... interesting. If scrapper willpower had an inbuilt self heal it'd need a damn good n*r*i*g (I censored the nasty word for everyones benefit).

Energy Torrent on a scrapper deals with that moment nicely

Scrappers get Claws - STABBITY! - and Spines - AOE STABBITY!
Brutes get Electric Melee - BOOM! - and Super Strength - STOMP & SMASH!

...What? I happen to like those sets

Hulk = Brute
Wolverine = Scrapper

So it's all good!

I like 3 of those 4 sets, one has downtime and Cynic hates time not spent hitting, yes he does

Brutes are eeeeeeeeeeeevil
Scrappers ftw!
Besides there is nothing more satisfying than critting on a Tier 9 power with BU on it, pretty much one-shotting most stuff. Brutes can't do that...so ner ner

After playing both to 50, scrappers are far better than brutes.
altho i will take them both out for the occasional tour of the zones I much prefer the scrapper, he is a much more well rounded and complete character than a brute ever could be (at the moment, and IMO only).

and because I have played both to 50 and they are supposed to be good/evil versions of the same character, I know who would win in a fight, and it would be a totally one sided fight at that

Played a scrapper to fifty, another to 40+ and a third is well on the way to 40. I though when villains was released that I'd enjoy brutes too. I loved the idea of fury and being able to scrap with tanker sets. My highest brute so far is probably 12. I just can't get the handle on why I dislike them so much, I actually prefer stalkers to brutes and I dislike them quite a bit too.

As for WP/Regen. I have played two regens to 38+ and a single WP who hasn't hit 32. For fun I prefer regen, I don't have expensive toggles, it has virtually no down time... except when I get overcome by scrapper lock and at that point I'm eating floor so I can rest safely. And now MoG is a true level 38 power Regen just rocks.

However if I were to recreate my scrappers all would be Will Power, mainly due to the fact I like the iea behind WP much more, plus the mixture of regen, defence and resistance just seems to work thematically so much better.

I still say it's better to oneshot a +2 lieutenant with my tier 5 power (which unlocks at level 8) without relying on a small chance to crit. Brutes can do that.

To each their own i guess.
