But, but, but... the Crey look so ugly! And another thing that puts me off Cold/ is the bulkiness of the Ice Shields! It's all about having the right look

That's the nice thing about Cold. You're not making YOUR character ugly with bulky shields, just everyone elses on the team
(I'm a complete number *Lady of Negotiable Virtue* so it's the shiney numbers of Cold which draw me to it, although I still have to get out of single figures level-wise)
My only current defender is
50 Pure Empath
and i have deleted 3 which were

50 Rad/Rad
43 Sonic/Psi

Dissension my dark/cold/psi defender is now around 42-43, also added a TA/Archery to the family, but my SG needs to liven up a bit before I start really leveling it.
TA/A is my new love. I am enjoying being underpowered and soloing!
heh well, I won't have that problem long.
The only issue I have with TA is that it starts Slooooooooooooow. The first few powers are all fairly "meh", Glue Arrow is fine but nothing special (the -recharge is rather low on it), Ice Arrow is an unspectacular hold (thanks to the animation time, but at least it's better than it used to be). Flash Arrow isn't anything special either and Poison Gas Arrow is again average at best compared to its Damage Debuffing peers (oh I wish they'd just change the Sleep to a Fear, it'd make it a lot more useful).
From Acid Arrow onwards its all good though.
I'm currently enjoying my baby Cold/Ice Defender. Except when he's soloing. Then it's painfully slow (for all involved )
I am still of a mind that TA would be better as a blaster secondary...
Storm/Ice is what it's all about.
Is the most fun I've had in a long while. Especially Solo.
Storm always gives me a smile when I see mobs flinging all around the screen thanks to my lovely tornado.
Indeed starts slow, but for the sheer varity in skills is great. thats why I love it. Glue may not be a great -recharge, but with slow slotted into it its great for ranged kiting and I love breaking LoS ^_^

Yep, things went a lot better for my Grav/TA once I learnt to stop playing like a Chaos Controller (my Ill/Storm) or a Scraptroller and started to manipulate my debuffs and the enviroment as a defense.
First defender I've made, Dark Miasma/Ice Blast Lvl 33 as of last night. Good fun too ^_^
