Stalker power prolification

Hey.

With the new news of power prolification for villains and heros, i descided to take a look at what the possibilities of new powers could be for each archetype.

But after looking though the possibilities for stalkers i realised that there is really only one possibility... Invulnerability...

This is because no other set would fit with stalkers: ice, fire and elec are all too light so they don't fit in with the hidden idea, stone is just totally out of the question because how can rocks be invissiable so really the only option is well invulnerability.

What do you guys think??

Ice Melee offers -speed as a secondary effect. It gives Stalker a fighting chance if it has to scrap a bit. The -speed also helps to cover the escape route. Besides, no other villain ATs have it, why not stalker then.

How about Broad Sword? Ninji Blade is fast but weak. Stalker could use something stronger. Ideally stalkers should finish a fight as soon as possible since their are not build for a prolonged fight (no fury and lower damage output than scrapper say it all). Broad Sword, and in fact Fire Melee as well, offer a better alternative. The basic tactic of Stalker, as I always think, is the reverse of Brute: use hide and AS then follow by Placate and Critical; and take down a large portion of the enemy's HP as fast as possible and get out there. Whereas Brute perfer to stay on a fight to build Fury for further fight.

So, Broad Sword and Fire Melee are possible too.

Personally, I would like to see Broad Sword or Ice Melee make their way into Stalker's primary.

Ice Melee would require a fair bit of work - a Stalker with a hold pre Patron pool? Ice Patch? Frost? Ugh

Fire Melee wouldn't be popular due to the DoT in Spines messing up Placate, so Fire would suffer the same. It also has zero defensive ability to the player.

Broad Sword? Hmm too slow, too heavy for endurance and it still suffers from the Stalkers lower melee damage modifier.

Never played Mace/Axe so can't comment too much about them - would assume Mace would drop Taunt+Whirling Mace and Axe losing Taunt+Whirling Axe for Placate/AS.Lots of disorient, knockup/knockback at least suggests some added survival/scrapping ability.

Neither fits the Stalker image for me tho :-|

As for Ice Armour? Hypern00b as its tier9? I hope not tbh and theres hardly a demand for protection from cold in the Rogue Isles atm anyway (PvP-ing aside). Fire Armour (graphics would need to be toned down to keep the immersion) would be a better pick for me - IF they kept Fiery Embrace (even reduced its recharge ). Tho again, its tier9 is awful, Burn would be needing replaced/changed and the auto power would be just as undesired from a non IO point of view. Hmm maybe it wouldn't be that good either

Tanker primaries like Ice/Fire/War/Axe aint gettin' to stalkers. Ice armor could do, but imagine a stalker with phase shift, hibern00b, End drain and slow aura. If they givin' us Ice armor, it'd be seriously overpowered with 2 Phase powers. If they give us Invulnerability it would honestly annoy me because it wont work.

I don't think that ice armor or fiery aura would be possible concept-wise (how do you hide with half a ton ice around you or glowing like a torch?). BS would be a joke. Ice melee could be interesting, but it might need a full reconstruction (I mean more attack types with that ice sword you know, and much less control). But that wouldn't be prolification would it?

There seems to be no obvious choice for stalker.

Something to be surprised about

But what if a Stalker get a ranged power from Blaster or Corrupter, albeit the attack will be modified?

I think Electric Melee and Armour will be the new sets for Stalkers. They seem to fit the bill better than the other available sets.

I don't think it'll be Electric armour, as the base idea is to give villains access to hero powersets. Invulnerability or Ice (with Hibernoob getting replaced by hide and the other powers getting heavily modified) being the logical options. As for melee... Fire or Ice maybe. The other's don't really fit.

well i guess none of the existing defendives fit for stalkers then, but the offensives are easier but not easy to figure out.

oh well, makes it more exciting to see what they come up with!!

Martial Arts (Scr, Sta)
Spines (Scr, Sta)
Dual Blades (Scr, Sta, Tan)
Energy Melee(Tan, Sta)

The attacking powers that Tanker and Scrapper have but Stalker does not are:

Fiery Melee
Ice Melee
Stone Melee
Battle Axe (taken by Brute)
War Mace (taken by Brute)

So the real options for Stalker are:

The defensive powers that Tanker and Scrapper have but Stalker does not are:

Stone Armor (Tan)
Fiery Aura (Tan)
Ice Armor (Tan)

So the real options for Stalker are:
Invulnerability
Stone Armor
Fiery Aura
Ice Armor


What would Stalker gets (notice they are in matching pairs, except Broad Sword which does not have any matching Secondary)?

Broad Sword


Since there are Super Strength/Invulnerability, Fiery Melee/Fiery Aura and Stone Melee/Stone Armor available for Brute already. To avoid too much overlapping of powers, Ice Melee, Ice Armor and Broad Sword (may be not so likely) are the most possible set of new powers.

There's nothing I can find that says they are only porting over sets to give villains access to hero sets and visa versa.

I doubt all but SS, but still, i dont think we getting it. What it think basically is that we get a modified elec manipulation primary from blaster secondaries. It has all the necessary stuff to make a good primary.

First thing to remember with stalker sets: foe affecting toggles suppress Hide, so they are out. One can be swapped with Hide, but Ice Armour has 2. Hibernate could also be problamatic. So I discount Ice.

Fire and Elec I discount on grounds that resist sets are poor for stalkers, and because it's hard to hide when you glow in the dark.

Invun, it's key power, Invincibility would be replaced by hide, leaving it with all those low value passives and -def mez protection, it would be teh gimp. So that's out.

Conclusion: Stalkers will get Stone Armour.

Therefore they will get Stone Melee to go with it.

That's probably because you, like so many players, have forgoten that GA is not the only power in Stone Armour.

The StoneKiller emerges silently from the stone wall, of which he was a part, and sends a stalagmite of stone piecing through Drakmarth's heart.

Stone armor lol. Please guys, i personally doubt there will be stone armor for stalkers. It doesnt fit the concept. Even if we get it, no one will roll one, its true.

It fits the concept perfectly. Looking like stone is perfect camoflage. Who would expect a rock to stab them in the back?

And I would roll one. It would have a lot more PvE potential than the average stalker.

And the powers are ideal. +def shields. Excellent mez protection with regen. +max hp. Psi def (very useful with psi blasters on the way). A togglable panic button.

My vote goes to Ice. After some modifications - which are guaranteed because of replacing powers with AS, Placate and Hide alone already - it should work fine, no?

Besides, "Assassin's Icicle" sounds nifty.

Also, whoever said ice can't be stealthy has never driven a car in a northern country during winter.

Oh, Ice/Ice was my first thought. I think Ice melee powers, such as Ice patch would be good on a stalker, but quite a lot of work would need to be done to make it work, and I think they are only porting things that can be done quite easily this session, and stone/stone needs minimal alterations.

Ice Melee has two powers wich would have to go: Freezing Touch and Frozen Aura. One can become AS, but what replaces the other? You need to make a completly new power, therefore lots of work. Edit: looked through possible powers that could be ported from other sets, and the only real option is Ice Sword Circle.

Ice armour also has two powers that have to go: Icicles and Chilling Embrace. One becomes hide, but what do you do with the other? Again, you need to make a new power. Loosing CE hurts the defensive capability of Ice Armour to. Futher edit: Shiver would be my choice for porting.

So, porting Ice/Ice needs a whole lot of work.

But Stone/Stone, Seismic Smash becomes AS, Mud Pots becomes Hide, do a little reordering, and you are done. Easy.
