well im thinking about getting rid of combustion because i never rly use it in a battle situation.

the only times iv'e used it are once when an enemy was stuck in the wall on a mish.
and to get my domination up when in large teams before a mish.

but thats rly all, i could deal without it relativly easily, but i dunno what to take instead.

ive got to fill lvl 24, dont want to take a power from my primary or secondary set, i have hover + fly, hasten and swift + health + stamina. from the pool powers and i was thinking of taking assault, but what do you think i should take as my lvl 24 power.

if you want more info i can post my powerset but please ask nicely first

thanx for the help guys, your all great

Hi

I have played a lot with fiery assault, and I gotta say that i have never used combustion...

So i can only say that if u dont use a power, u just dont need it... It is as easy as sound...

Dunno bout ur build, maybe combustion needs more slots to be usefull, u can take ur toon to test and see how it could be plenty slotted...

All in all, if u still dont have hasten, go for it... It is a must to make domination recharges faster and having it available more frecuently, hence makin ur life easier.

Cheers.

I actually plan on taking Combustion at a later point on my Plants/Fire, I'd think with Carrion + Seeds I could trigger Fiery Embrace, leap in and combust, then leap out and continue as normal.

Early I can see it being a problem, like any AoE/PbAoE with squishies, but if I recall you don't get a large amount of those in /Fire, correct me if that's misinformation, so it might be an idea to consider it, just to get more bang for your buck.

But if you don't use it and your current build is running smoothly then that's just fine, we all play differently, seen Fire Blasters with only ST and they run well.

Might be an idea to reveal your build, see what we can fit in that slot.

I agree with Drak. His said tactic is good: move in and out again. For the great Incinerate you need to be up close and personal anyway.
I have a plant/fire myself and loved combustion all the way. Didn't take it early on (lvl 22 iirc), because it only comes to it's own from mid lvl and on with some nice slotting in it.
It has a long activation time that can get on my nerves sometimes hindering my fast combat movement flow, but i use it a lot to great content.
But me is me and you is you as my old man used to say

Speaking with would-be-Doms and newbie-Doms there's some misconceptions regarding the melee nature of most secondary attacks.

I know of someone that said they don't take any melee and that people who did were silly because 'You're squishie', I got an image in my head of a Dom toe-to-toe with a Freak Tank and laughed.

There's no way my Doms would just stand there, Mind Probe and then wait for the Tank to slice me in the kidneys. Generally I leap over my enemies with Mind Probe ready in and zip around for cones/aoes/thelike. But this might all be from my Dark/Dark Corr which involves a lot moving around a mob to net them in the cones.

Always moving or else I'm dead! That's the Dominator Way!...like a shark or something!

Or 2 ferrets wrestling in a paid of bloomers.

I have combustion on my plant/fire and like it. With fiery embrace, combustion and consume, its like a little nuke.

I go toe to toe with Freak Tanks. Of course they're perma held so can't hurt me, but i remain in close proximity :P

I perosnally kite and tank with starscreamer. As he has perma holds on almost anything (AVs and Heroes with domi) and then when stacked sufficiently plough in for the melee attacks. Its also worth mentioning the dmg buff of domi is higher for melee attacks than ranged, only reason I hate the /fire melee (incinerate?) is that its a DoT that takes forever and is innaccurate. So my low doms are stuck on the kiting atm

With my plant/fire dom, I find that I am more often out of melee range, than in it - and the only time I'm really in it, is when I use Combustion. My attack chain is something like this:

Seeds > Roots > FE > Fire Breath > Run in melee > Combustion > Use blasts to finish off mobs

As for the opening question, I'd say take it - makes for some nice AoE damage
