Ice/Em IO slotting
Most of my IO slotting is intended to plug the vunerability to fire. I do have Steadfast Protection res/def in Permafrost, it's about all the power is good for.
A lot of the set bonus +def you can get is positional (melee, Ranged, AoE). THIS DOES NOT STACK WITH ICE ARMOUR. But it does for SR.
I really should do something about this signature.

Ah..i had a feeling thats was the case. with my EM/EA brute i have weave, CJ and energy cloak slotted which gives me about 12% added defence. is that even worth considering for an EA tanker who will mostly PvP? or should i just focus on a higher recharge build?

Why the unhappy face? It doesn't take much to get ice armour to 45% in S/L/E/Neg, Cold is a given leaving fire and psionics to worry about. With Fire getting 30% res is easy. You basically don't get slowed, making perma hoarfrost maintainable enough to afford more res for toxic resists if ya like, leaving psionics..join the club!
Although I could be wrong as I have yet to min/max my ice as she is not even 50 yet. I am an altaholic and go to meetings once a week. XD

Yeah, you can get Ice over 45% with double stacked Energy Absorption. Not very useful for PvP.
You can't boost it significantly with IOs though.

Basically, the above plus Maneuvers.
That'll get you to about 45%-46% at the expense of another power pool.
In PvP I don't particularly rate passive defense, even at 103% its not enough. I'd rather sling controls and aid self.

Not everyone has 200% tohit in PvP, so its still viable.

Forget about defense with IO's on Ice/EM tank.I have a PvP one and all you need is good recharge,good recovery and good regeneration.With perma hoarfrost and 3300 HP you can easily mitigate the damage that comes through 2x stacked EA.Also with a 25 second recharge Hibenrate very few things can be a threat.
Defense in PvP is not a good idea.
i havnt PvP'd with him yet (lv34 atm) so i have no idea how viabal my defence will be but i wasnt falling back on defence anyway.
but apart from the builds that live in god mode, does anyone have good experiences with 45% defence in PvP?

Not the ones that meet blasters in PvP. And if you are thinking hell i might as well avoid em well thats unlikely cause blasters are pretty common.
Forget about defense and boost recovery/regen/recharge/hp/dmg
Any IO'd toon for pvp will hit easily thru ur defense, listen to the feta eater

I am fairly against such build but this is a duel build which will allow you to not die in duels. Be aware tho that if someone manages to kill you in a duel with this build you will be mocked too much.
I am really against phaseshift in tanker builds but thats my personal preference. With a good recharge build you dont need phaseshift.
Thats only my opinion ofc.
Thing is... with that build id find it really hard to lose a duel. It's a hybrid build tho, it still has full slotted taunt .

Well you might not lose a duel but when you go in an arena match and taunt a blaster or a rad you are in a world of trouble without permafrost and with a phaseshift build.
If I'm going to taunt a blaster or a rad means I'm in team PvP, where I should have an empath backup at least, and I will be the last target to be attacked tho. For duels permafrost would certainly be sexeh, but sadly no more power slots anyway a blaster would need tactics or he wouldn't be able to see me without a continuous pop of yellows
IO perception recipes upcomming Or any /dev with TD.

It doesnt matter.In team PvP you should be able to not need heals.Every match i had in team arena with ice/em i had to get healed once. And thats me perma taunting 2 blasters in 3 matches versus French and a variety of other Union matches.High recharge + high regen + high hp = win
Still imho phaseshift in ice tank build kills any flexibility of the build.

Technically true, but perhaps less useful than you'd think. Bear in mind that although the new IO will let you see any non-stalker in melee range at their "stealth cap", it currently only adds 100 feet of perception.
In Sirens Call this isn't really a factor (level 30 stealth cap is 501 feet, your natural perception is 500 feet so it'll let you see non-stalker invis'ed enemies up to 99 feet away).
In arena PvP at level 50 however (571 feet stealth cap), a +Perception IO BY ITSELF will only let you see invis'ed non-stalkers up to 29 feet away. That's well within the range of, say, unslotted Bitter Ice Blast.
Better +perc than you'd otherwise have of course, but don't rely on it to protect you from non-melee toons.

29 feet away is not much time to react me thinks anyway none of us has to be wrong necessarily, there are several ways to play an AT, in PvP too

Also, do you think 29 feet is enough "Reaction distance" between you and a [Build Up + Energy Transfer]?
10 feet certainly isn't for most heros my Stalker encounters...
