SR or Regen for Kat?
If you are not getting aid self on a /sr... just don't roll it imo (unless you plan to team much with an empath or bubbler that is). Regen makes things so easy that it's boring after IO's tho
Regen makes things so easy it's already boring without IOs :/
I'm just sooooooooooo bored of my MA/regen. It's just boring. Really.

My Spines/SR made 50 lvls without Aid Self quite easily. Fill your insps tray with lucks (and a row with respites) and use them whenever you feel like you'll need it.
Go to PvP zone and grab the intangibility temp (you get it from warbug I think) for critical moments.
About your teamates.. Yes, Bubblers and Empaths are nice but they're not the only ones who can boost your suvivability. Rads and Darks can make things easier for you with their ToHitDebuffs.
My vote goes for SR. It takes a while, but you'll get uber and probably enjoy your toon way more than a Regen.

yeh have to agree made it to 50 without aid self aswell without much bother pretty much soloed it aswell, /sr is a lot of fun you just have to be prepared to one minute be an unstoppable whirlwind of death and the next moment dead
Katana has a good synygy with sr but if you want an easy trouble free ride go for rgn.
I have an invuln tank and prefer invuln on tanks but with the DA from divine avalanche and possibly you could add fight pool as well for weave instead of passives you maybe fine and not have the Invuln, SR or Regen feeling again.
Kat/dark looks cool, my friend has one, he looks like a dark samurai and gets in there and tanks with it. He has presence pull provoke and fear powers and seems to be rather effective.
As much as I had spent many hours on an invuln playing Broadsword/Regen has made me feel like I should of gone Broadsword/invuln due to the lengthy cast times and would suspect the same problem if I was Kat/Regen...the attacks cast time is nearly over, I am just about to heal..oops too late...Revive ftw!

I got till 50 without Aid Self on my SR too, I repec'd it in and its now far better than it was before. I would have had an easier time with in the build and would recomend anyone take it

I never understood why. Any well built SR scrapper can do fine without Aid Self for PvE.
To OP, I'd go for SR any day over regen because SR is real fun to play. Medicine pool or not is really up to your playstile, I guess you can try without it and respec if you feel it's required.-
i've got lvl 50 kat/regen and love, it, is pretty easy and good to solo alot with, never really got into SR, i like the emergency buttons on regen, gives a sense of danger but control at the same time. never needed fighting pool and leaves plenty of choices to vary the aproach, dont even NEED stamina, although it is stil very useful.

Sure getting to 50 with an SR is doable but aid self can add so much more life to an SR. With my Kat/SR I'll never get aid self and will have 45% defense to melee, range and aoe without even popping elude but my first SR was claws. Claws has no +def anything within the primary and so has more reason to respec in aid self which I did at 50. I had reached 50 with the claws/sr with powers like combat kick in my build and such a beginner was I, that the words "attack chain" meant a steel chain for fighting with. This was before defense scaleability making non perma eluded claws/SRs squishie and I sure do rate any icetanker who 50'd before def scaleability.

Thanks for the advise everyone, I decided on a Kat/Regen in the end, but I'm thinking of making a Kat/SR for Union.

Only 45%?
Now SR's can be easily taken to 50% melee and 53% ranged/AoE

Sorry for the derail. Yes only 45% dead on! Well melee and ranged its dead on and not a decimal point more or less because the scrapper is for pve. The AoE def is planned to 52.7% def which couldn't be helped (or could it?..) Well anyways I wont have divine avalanche or elude in the build.

recommend Katana/DA , its alot of fun, though down time with end issues (easy enuff to resolve if you can find someone with sb lol).. oops bit late to the thread, kat/regen eh, way to easy
I've fancied the idea of having a Katana Scrapper for a while and thought I would given I11 round the corner.
Only I can't choose between SR or Regen, I thought of SR at first in order to stack with DA, but after playing my Sines/Regen to 50 and my MA/SR to 33, I know how they feel.
My MA/SR won't have the passive Def powers untill the 40s, giving me room for Aid Self below 30, but if I was to make a Kat/SR, I wouldn't take Aid Self and get the ranged and AoE passives instead, not taking Aid Self at all then.
So....I'm not sure which secondary to pair up with Katana.
And no, I don't like the look of Dark with Kat, I have an Invul Tanker and prefer it on Tankers, and I already have a Willpower Scrapper planned.
Any help, please?
