Solo Scrapping

Hi,

I want to make an alt to play for 30mins or an hour at times when I can't group. I think Scrapper is the best AT for this but I have no clue to the powersets that would suit me best.

I DON'T want anything Spines or Regen as I don't like the look of these.

So can anyone recommend the best of the rest? My initial ideas were:

MA/SR
DM/DA

but anything else will be considered.

Thanks

MA/SR will do you well - it's a good, solid choice.

DM/SR, Kat/SR or Kat/Inv are good choices

Pretty much anything is a good choice really.

And what is wrong with Regen? For soloing it's arguably the best secondary.

Anyway, enough of silly Invul', why not try Kat/Dark and be your own Fluffy with a razorblade.
If you can put up with the early Endurance issues you'll make good in no time.

That's exactly why I didn't recommend a DA, not sure it's the best choice for a first time scrapper. If OP wants to go the easy way, regen or inv, if he wants something challenging and fun, then SR. DA may bring him too close to frustration, still, if he wants DA, I'd go for claws/da to minimize the end issues.

So thats why my first character (DM/DA) took 500 hours to get to 50 eh? :P

DA isn't hard, it's just different. I wouldn't consider Inv or Regen to be "easy" either. Regen is certainly more forgiving than other sets in the mid to late teens but that's about it, fighting an EB later in the 40s as a Regen can find you rapidly running out of clicky heals at the wrong time and you take All the damage all the time. Inv, SR and DA are all equally as End fiddly until Stamina comes into play. DA is very effective once it's gotten going properly and the box of tricks it has by 38 gives you some excellent indirect damage mitigation.

Is it a lot? I have no idea, I never timed my toons.

Regen is easy, and at higher lvls just sucks, in fact sucks all the way. DA is tricky and I wouldn't recommend it for a first scrapper.

I agree.
MoG.
You can't ever compare MoG with Elude or Unstoppable, not in PvE and especially not in PvP.
MoG is to save you butt, Elude and Unstoppable are for tanking Avs and mobs and for going frenzy in PvP.

PS: Good old times of regen before ED and nerfs when you could tank AVs and mobs with just perma dull pain and the defense from Weave are dead sadly.

Regen sucks because of MoG? Does that mean DA sucks because of Soul Transfer?

I have also tanked most AVs with MoG.

Nightmarer is just jealous because Regen doesn't need a crutch like Tough to get by.
And we're not continually screaming "HEEEAL MEEEEE!!!!!"
Regen isn't weak at high levels, you just have to know when to time your heals.
As for comparisons to Elude etc, which Paragon Protector do you have to most trouble with when it pops its tier 9 defence? The MoG'd one.
The other night I was in a team of four and tanked 3 AVs with my Claws/Regen/Dark(47), I didn't need to touch MoG in any of those fights.

You're almost right there, I don't like regen because I feel it's overpowered easy mode. Besides, I don't like to be clicking more than one heal, I prefer the laziness of the toggles, turn on and forget. You're wrong on the healings though, I don't think I ever asked for healings on any of my scrappers. Not saying I don't ever need them of course, it's just I don't like to beg for heals, if I am good enough to get in trouble, I should be good enough to get out of trouble.

Btw, I also tanked 3 AV's in STF with my DM/SR without needing Elude. I guess, at the end of the day, everyone needs to find the right scrapper that better suits his/her playstile. I am having now unexpected fun on DA, rolled a DM/DA and enjoying so much that I also got a Claws/DA.
I tried regen, BS/Regen deleted at lvl 24, Spines/regen deleted at lvl 14, for some reason I don't get my way around regen.

Besides, getting Firekitty irritated is always an added bonus
