  1. Seems while I took a break,I missed one of Jag's series, the 13th.
Congratz for the last 2 50s!
  2. Shinro

    Farewell !

Thank you guys and gals for the welcome and for the kind words.

I got myself started with CoX, but I had some ISP problems(yeah until I started playing again my net was ok and now ) adding here the damn forum which didn't let me reply/PM sooner, saying that my account isn't active (wth?), although my account is payed until March. So, I reactivated my billing plan and solved the forum "bug".(NCSoft , NCSoft ...)
  3. Shinro

    Farewell !

    Greetings all!
I'm not Terminator, but I'm back. I resisted only 1 month, mwhaha.

I worked yesterday and after work, met my friends for a beer, Among them the one I gave my account to play for free (since I wasn't playing and my subscription is payed until March). He also has some experience in CoH as a scrapp, played on US servers a couple of years ago. He logged only a couple of times on my account, but last night since we hit the topic "games", he begun to speak about scrapping and CoX.

Well that did it. I sold my soul to the devil, again, something similar to a 2nd mortgage.
When I woke up today (free day from work for me) I had the urge to log in and scrapp for a while and that's what I did.

Seems I'm an old school scrapp junky and nothing can cure this. Dunno if I should be happy or miserable. Well, both.

These being said I might pop up in the game from time to time.

PS: Next time when I feel the need to get away, I'll just take a break(very healthy), not leave and make a "farewell thread" - lesson learned.
  4. Shinro

    Farewell !

I can't think of a better moment to hang up the cape and start a fresh new year without CoX. And I slept on this decision, since 1 month ago, but i11 was too sexy to skip and the temptation got me.

DB,WP are the PvE powers I've always wanted to play, great job devs, but playing them to 50 would mean making more concessions in the future. So, the recent naughty things I did with my brute Kattoro will stay well hidden in the shadow of my heroes.
My subscription expires at the end of February, but I won't log in, not even one last time, because I've been there, done that and never escaped the loop. It's about the time to do it!

Many thanks to all my new and old friends, SGs and to all people who entrusted me to be their team' scrapper-tank along the road to 50 and helped me enjoy this game up to it's higher quality limit.
Also, thank you devs for this game and all my respect for all the hard work! Among other things, the great graphics, details, costumes, zones design, characters modeling, artworks reminded me that what I'm doing now, advertising design is not what I want to do in the future, so I'll use this free time off game to work harder and increase my 3D skills.

This time, I won't delete my toons like I did in the past, since this would mean I really wasted (again) my free time for nothing.

I wish you all, Happy Holidays, a very good (next) year, good health and all the best in real life.
    Also, have fun !

    Shinro over&out.
  5. Drop Resist Elements and Resist Energies(which don't worth) and take Aid other and Aid Self (3xheal,2xrech,1xinterrupt) instead those, which from my PoV will give you a better survivability.
Slot your Dull Pain with 3xrech redux and 3xheal. Learn to use it when your health is on orange-red as a self heal also.
Also if you look and in Mids you'll see 3xdef for Tough Hide means 5.94 vs 5.61 with 2xdef. Unless you have in mind sets, go with just 2 slots.
Following the same idea 3xtohit in Focussed Acc means 31.7, 2xtohit=29.9, so stick with 2 slots.
And 1xend redux in your toggles is really enough for invul. with 2x end you'll save up 0.11/sec for all 3 toggles with 50 IOs in them, at higher lvls won't matter with Conserve Power.
As for MA I played that set to only 32, I can't help you there.
  6. Big congratz mate!

Was fun teaming with your scrapp, especially doing some "freaks ping pong" with shockwaves. I can't really tell who was winning, but not the poor freaks, that's for sure ... Mwhaha!
  7. My source is Mids Hero. Info of Invincibility(taunt aura)of invul scrapp is Mag 4 (for 13.5s). Same info on Invincibility of an invul tank, Mud Pots and Icicles, for stone and ice.
Maybe Mids is wrong dunno, what I know is that I didn't liked the strength of taunt aura on my invul scrapp, when I was lvl 28->37 and I had bad tanks, bad teams and also psi foes. And I play my scrapps as pseudo tanks, taking taunt on all of them, but when I'm prepared to do that or my team understands who's taunting, not when devs are imposing me this on invul and also on upcoming WP.

Edit: What Standoff is saying happened to me. I played my invul to 50 teaming with many ice tanks and even if I learned to stay behind the ice tank my Invincibility was still taking the agro of Icicles (or invul tanks Invincibility).
Now imagine how nasty was with an ice/invul overzealous tank who took too muck agro and then panic hit Hibernate(invul died). Who was there? damn my invul scrapp. And I stayed in battle how much I could , using DP, self heal, but hey running is healthy also if the team doesn't deserve your sacrifice. All that changed when at 38 I took Unstoppable, the ice or invul tank happened to die near me and I was hitting it and tanking for the team, while the tank was moaning "any res pls?" mwhaha

Scrappers have their own single target taunt like gauntlet, to help them keep agro (since they mostly do single target attacks) not sure how much it can affect a tanks taunt however.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Definitely wasn't this; at times there'd be 2-3 mobs fixated on the same scrapper at once, plus I never saw the scrappers go into any taunt-like animation.

Not that I've ever seen a scrapper with one of those ST taunts, ever, whatever I've been playing.

    [/ QUOTE ]
That scrapp wasn't invul btw? Invul scrapps have taunt aura also and I have some stories to tell, taking agro from ice tanks (and yes mobs still had blue ice glowie on them).

    [ QUOTE ]
Tank taunt is mag 4 iirc, scrapper invinciblity only hits 3.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Actually scrapps invincibility taunt is mag 4 also.
  9. Moonshyne got to 50 tonight, well done and many more to come
  10. Shinro (DM/regen, 2005 scrapp) doesn't exist anymore,
instead there is an old new hero in town with some affinity for psi debt

I wouldn't had left I think, but sh't happens in real life. I got sick and almost died. My 12/24h job, my wasted nights in games, fast food meals, all had consequences. So I needed some time to recover after 4 interventions and 3 months hospital immobilization.

Between these 3, Regen, SR and Inv, last 1 is the most challenging to play, but I like it most, because is the less self centered scrapp build. Invincibility is there to help you and in the same time to help the team, inv being the best choice for a pseudo tank scrapp build, good for the team.

[/ QUOTE ] Sorry, don't buy that one. "Self centred" is a matter of perspective. I've teamed with plenty of scrappers as my empath and the ones that require the most attention are the /Inv. SR scrappers only need a Fortitude and the occasional heal when they do get hit, Regens only need assistance when things go really wrong. So Inv not being "self centred" is a bit inaccurate as, in my experience, they demand more attention from support ATs compared to other Scrappers who are less demanding on the teams' resources. I think you have "self centred" and self sufficient confused.

    [/ QUOTE ]
But do you know why they need attention?
Because they are the only scrapps with taunt aura. If I'm fighting in a team without a tank or with a tank which has only taunt aura, I take all(or a part of) the aggro on me. If the tank has taunt and I'm near the tank I still get more than 2 foes on me because I auto taunt. And this power set is about resisting hits not dodging them in general.
Now talking about invincible mishs with foes +2,+3,+4
So I take the usual foes on me and the psi bosses also. And after 2 psi attacks and the usual lethal/smashing dmg combined sometimes with elemental and negative dmg sometimes(depends on foes) I am dead instantly without having the time to use dull pain or inspir or smth to save my butt.
But guess smth else also. If you are playing in a team with an inv scrapp who knows what to do and has a good healer behind him you are as safe as with a tank.
I usual go and heard the mob and go after corner, use dull pain, then I go and move through the mob to taunt again, healer healing me and I corner kill among with AoE from blasters and trollers. However this doesn't work if the trollers and blasters AoE before I pull them after corner.
Sometimes I am with 2 foes after me taunted and I go and attack the foes that are almost killing a blaster. I just have to go there and I get that aggro on me also.

When playing regen or SR I haven't died so much as with this inv scrapp, but I can't remember being so useful to the team doing 2 things in the same time.
With SR and regen you go in the middle of the mob to "pseudo tank". After blasters and trollers begin to AoE, foes forget about you and maybe face plant those AT. With inv they can forget about you also, but depends on the person if he choose to go remind the mob who's taunting. Depends on the healer also if he knows to heal. You are invulnerable just on the copyrighted paper from Cryptic/NC soft. In real action you sure take a hell lot of damage. I'm just wondering if the devs put the right numbers for dmg resistance in PvE.
DA has 3 mitigation auras which he can choose to use or not to aggro on him, invul has Invincibility which you have to use because you suck without it, but in this way you also taunt, but regen and SR don't have anything in the secondary useful for team (only for the benefit of the scrapp so this give me the right to call those power sets self centered.
All told me that a scrapp should never have taunt on him(and for a good reason - not face planting), but you see invul scrapp has auto taunt, so sorry, that oblige the person playing inv to be/become a better team player
Sorry Steampunk I see only a regen in your sig. Maybe you are right, but you should play an inv scrapp to at least 30 and see if you are right.
Maybe I am wrong, but at least I speak from experience.

And I went way off topic on this thread I won't comment further.

I recommend SR for solo. And BS for primary, so you can do extreme damage, if you are ok with a slower attack.
On BS/SR you MUST take (for solo PvE - slotting attacks with 3 acc/3dmg) fitness, hasten, quickness and conserve power to balance slow recharge and heavy endurance.
Or slot your attacks with recharge and end redux and toggles with 2 end redux.

That's not participating that's relying on passive powers and they're even worse than toggles (at least you have to turn toggles on).
The way you're describing Inv isn't participation it's just an exercise in masochism.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Exercise in masochism. Heheh, funny expression, it remindes me of my nightmares with psi/negative bosses, but sorry no. The way I'm describing Inv it's an exercise in how an inv scrapp is meant to be played. Hellooooouuu .. you don't have for nothing auto-taunt, extra defense and tohit bonuses for melee foes, in Invincibility and also higher dmg res to smash and lethal.
I guess the 1st part(phrase) of the reply is referring to regen because - what passive powers for Inv are you talking about? I rely on my toggles, Inv passive powers defense/dmg resist simply sucks. It's like they could not exist. Some of them I can skip, to take other better powers.
Inv is about taking hits and resisting damage like a pseudo tank, as much as possible, ideally until you kill your foes. Took me a while to get use to the idea, after playing my SR.
Between these 3, Regen, SR and Inv, last 1 is the most challenging to play, but I like it most, because is the less self centered scrapp build. Invincibility is there to help you and in the same time to help the team, inv being the best choice for a pseudo tank scrapp build, good for the team.

I like to actually participate in my survival which is why I like Regen - although I had great fun playing my Kat/SR to 50 a couple of months ago, so I am probably just a bit unsure which playstyle I like.

    [/ QUOTE ]
No no play an invulnerability until you get Invincibility at lvl 28, to see how much do you have to participate in your survival.
The scheme is the same, using dull pain and later Aid Self at the opportune moment. The thing is you taunt all the foes around you with Invincibility, you don't have heal, just dull pain, and to get a little extra recov and regen (what regens have plenty) you have to take fitness. And Aid Self doesn't work all the time(interruptible), of course if you take Medicine.
Then you can talk about "participating in your survival".

As for comparisons to Elude etc, which Paragon Protector do you have to most trouble with when it pops its tier 9 defence? The MoG'd one.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Don't give me this. You don't know what defenses have npcs, what devs planned for them ... Just because the stupid npc using elude can't heal and is dieing faster. I don't know why but I was killing fast MoG npcs with my BS ...

And which scrapp(except DA which doesn't have) using last power do you guess dies easier in PvP during the time he's using it, not while side effect in a scrapp vs scrapp duel? Hint: It's a rethorical question.

Any secondary can be nice and fun in PvE, but how good is in PvP, considering that the player has skills?
Regen is the easiest way to play a scrapp. Any newbie can play it. That's why I learned to play scrapps because DM/regen was my 1st 50. And comparing regen with SR in 38+ pvp I must say: regen sux.
    I rest my case.
  18. Shinro

    Solo Scrapping

    [ QUOTE ]

Regen is easy, and at higher lvls just sucks, in fact sucks all the way. DA is tricky and I wouldn't recommend it for a first scrapper.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    I agree.
    MoG.
You can't ever compare MoG with Elude or Unstoppable, not in PvE and especially not in PvP.
MoG is to save you butt, Elude and Unstoppable are for tanking Avs and mobs and for going frenzy in PvP.

PS: Good old times of regen before ED and nerfs when you could tank AVs and mobs with just perma dull pain and the defense from Weave are dead sadly.
  19. Tested Invincibility. IMO - a 5 star power. It's the power that saves this set from being nasty to play (until Unstoppable). I had a 50 regen, have a 50 SR and I dunno I wasn't been ok with the idea of taking almost all the hits, stay in almost red and then use dull pain.
With Invincibility and dull pain properly slotted and used, inv scapps are fun to play, of course if you have the right foes to face With SR you escape sometimes a lot of hits and then all the attacks hit you, (it's like a "compensation" ) and in those moments without being used to watch your health you faceplant. Of course I'm making a parallel for these lvls, below 30s.
After you get Invincibility, the way to play is to go in the middle of the mob, of course you don't have to be over zealous at these lvls. I go in mishs with my pockets 2/3 full of "greenies", my faceplant salvation. After 30 and Aid Self, the fun will be longer.

And yes auto taunt from Invincibility isn't as bad as I thought. As you said I can't overrun the tanks taunt (BUT I haven't teamed with an inv tank using only Invincibility to taunt - I'm curious how will go then).
Still, feels great to steal the food of other scrapps, bringing foes around you. Not great when you are almost dead. Took as many AoE attacks as I could until now to hit as many as I can in the same time.

Also I feel bad for blasters who can't keep their hands off AoE blasts in teams where I have to pseudo tank. After they blast and push the mob all over the place I am not responsible for them. They "overrun" my taunt, so keep than in mind, you blasters if you have a pseudo tanks inv scrapp in your team.
I must say, maybe in that way they save my butt sometimes, being out of dull pain and greenies, but this means in some cases their doom.
    Cant's wait for Unstoppable.

So to conclude, taking Invincibility at lvl 28 is the best idea.
  20. Thx guys, I'll get it now at lvl 28. I'll see how it goes, remembered I have a respec available, so I can swap some powers if I need to get Aid Self sooner. Also I'll see how much I can annoy tanks
Atm doing Croatoa arc and I burn very nicely. I had fun with my SR scrapp, but with inv I'm pretty annoyed.I hope will pay off in PvP all this stress, because this toon is for pvp.

The -4% defense from Unyielding will still remain for Melee, Ranged and AoE thou'. On all others(fire, cold, etc) will compensate like you, Nightmarer say. Or it can remain -2% using combat jumping .. or compensate totally with stealth, but I'm not interested in those. There are also bonuses to compensate from, still long way until there.

I've read your guide DSorrow, nice guide for PvE. In my opinion Presence will go much better for PvE and PvP also. I'm using Provoke/Invole Panic on my PvE pseudo-tank SR build and well I can tank. I'm sure will go even much better with invulnerability. For PvP It's hard to use SJ vs others fly, unless you take web grenade or you have smth like Impale from Spines power set for -fly(which I don't have on claws).
  21. I'm playing a claws/inv scrapper, atm lvl 27.
Invincibility is a very nice power, gives you a base defense of almost 5%(scrapps) and also defense and tohit bonus for every foe near you (up to 10 foes) BUT has taunt in it with same base taunt effectiveness which a tank has . Power is available at lvl 28.
I'm using Dull Pain (3rech/1heal slotted so far, Self heal is a must also in the near future.
So far I find myself very squishy (except for melee foes(smashing,lethal)- because it's my specialty having much higher res to those) and I'm like a lamb for elemental/energy foes (elemental,energy/negative res provided way too small).
I'm thinking that auto taunting with Invincibility, I'm going to to die very often at these lvls and also I'll interfere with tanks herding/aggro. I'm usually stay near tank, he tanks, I kill, but when in mob is a boss kicking us from the distance, I jump over the taunted mob straight to him. Oh well with my Invincibility on I think I'll aggro that mob on me, until and IF tank taunts again. Also most of the tanks out there, around my lvl are inv and ice using only taunting aura -> so .. in this case I'm so dead.
Instead of that, I was thinking of taking Aid Other at 28, Aid Self at 30 and Invincibility at lvl 32/35.
On the other hand I don't know how well I'll handle damage until lvl 35 only with dmg res provided by Unyielding, Temp Invulnerability and Resist Elements
So, is it a bad idea to take Invincibility at lvl 28, especially before taking Aid Self? Should I leave it for lvl 35+?
Note: Very rare I end up teaming with good healers so I can't depend on them saving my butt.
Any advices from invulnerability scrapps are most welcome.
    Thank you in advance!
  22. [ QUOTE ]
Stalkers are good damagedealers in a team. People just seem to have prejudices about stalkers rehiding for AS.

    [/ QUOTE ]
If the stalker has hasten and placate each slotted with 3 recharge, then "waiting for re-hide" will happen less often.
Also depends on the person playing the stalker. Due my scrapp nature I don't like waiting for re-hide. I just go out there fear 2-3 foes, fight (helps me and the team also) and meanwhile placate and AS are recharged and I can bag them.
I think those prejudices come from people playing in unbalanced or not good teams, where stalker due his nature always escapes a team wipe. Been there, done that.
  23. Dom/stalker is great if you act properly. It doesn't work if the stalker is over zealous to only AS.
Stalker must AS 1st (attack 1st) and stay in battle as a tank or pull when 2 mobs are too close, until AoE from dominator, then placate (as was said) a foe targeting dominator and use that placate to try AS the most higher foe remaining (targeting also dominator). If the dominator attacks 1st he/she takes all the aggro and thats not good having a poor defense -> debt. A stalker can manage taking 1st round of aggro to let the dominator do his show after.
Also never wait for re-hide, he must keep scrapping until he can use placate again, unless of course if dominator has mob under control and not in danger.
I learned that playing with Wytch' gravity dominator. After she faceplant a couple of times I changed the tactics. Sorry Wytch I'm learning while playing, you know I care.
I don't know, that tactic worked for us later, even when doing mishs with +4 foes for her and +2 for me.

I see multiple referances to the BS/SR scrapper and after hecking Super Reflexes options it seems it is quite fitting a melee character with passive slow resistances and passive/active speed boosts to help with kiting. It also seems to have quite multiple mitigation toggles for just about everything but psi... and Elude seems to be much stronger than MoG.

Maybe I should actually try BS/SR then? Any experienced opinions on BS/SR here?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yeah extreme damage and endurance heavy. If you'll slot all your attacks with 3 acc / 3 dam, especially head splitter which eats 13.5 endurance/hit, in this case you'll have to take Body Mastery for end recovery. Also quickness and hasten cos your attacks are really slow.
SR has a downfall .. sometimes all the hits you dodged are hitting you after, so you'll have to take Aid Self also.
In PvE it's the team's tank when you don't have a real tank, even without elude you can tank mobs. With elude you can tanks some AVs.
For PvE it's a very nice, rewarding toon.
In PvP kinda sux without elude. I'm killing and I'm always calm in the middle of the battle, all trying to hit me and failing, when elude is on and I'm running like hell when I don't have it. Psi damage, fear and recharge redux aren't your friends :P
