Me and GW
Then you're very lucky - all it takes is one badly timed application of Soul Storm and you're buggered. Of course, that applies to any tank.
To be fair, the Granite/Invuln comment is usually levelled at Recluse and not his retinue, and with some degree of accuracy. I know Fire and even Ice tanks can take on Recluse, but it's a damn sight harder than doing so with Invuln or Granite armour.

we are talking about the STF if so they both laugh in the face of my invul tank, if we are talking about RV then thats a different matter altogether!!
I never heard STF can't be done with a fire tank, in fact we have been doing it every saturday for months with a fire tank for the first 10-12 weeks and he did the job to perfection. Only tried once with an ice tank, and he did the hell of a job holding GW solo while we got rid of Mako. He couldn't tank LR though, but I doubt it was because of him being an ice tank, I am pretty sure it was because one of the team mates left so we lacked damage to take down the towers fast enough plus we oly had targeted heals that didn't work well against LR to keep the ice tank alive.
It doesn't just depend on the tank, the team build needs to be right for STF. Our invinci tank left part way through our STF leaving my regen and a SR to try tank. We managed with GW and Scirroco but we needed insps for LR. RV is where a tank can usually be measured.
Congratz on tanking GW and Mako solo though.

I am impressed. You not only managed to Tank Mr. Placate and Assassin's Claw Sharkman but you managed to Tank him along with Miss Magnitude 50 Hold! Although, that's what sort of makes me ask... how DID you survive her Soul Storm?

Its down to looking at their attacks and seeing what the limitations of them are, then saying "How can I use those limitations against them?". Its not all about needing more shields when it comes to problems!
My first STF on test was combat logging my way thru it and taking my time rather than trying to steam through it. I have so many combat log screenshots its sick. I never care for time taken I care for information taken.
When RV first came out on test my longest solo with 3 AVs Scirroco, Black Scorpion and Ghost Widow was a mere 10 mins, there was 3 unstoppable crashes then dullpain involved and I was using the shield of the pillboxes for a buff and popping lucks between Unstoppable crashes relying on some luck. It was good for the first 3 days but then strangely it got harder.
Now its less about luck and more about cooperation and a slight use of a map. To get as ideal a situation as possible, Id probably have to tell people to bog off and hide for a bit, wait till I am ready and then begin attacking, there will be certain powers that will be a "Please dont touch that one!" and powers that are "keep that one coming!", not good around those who are "Dont tell me how to play my toon!" and nothing is ever good around people that just keep mashing keys thinking that there isnt a possible foreseeable problem when there is one. People either work with you or against you.
Its actually a very tight move, in the Inner Circle Id need to remove Scirroco first or be able to hold him off while another AV is done but Id definately want a team of players that can hold their horses. On Lord Recluse I fancy a Stormie for a bit of a comfort blanket, well for Scirroco as well. A mate hasa nice storm/elec and I am gonna help level him, the stormie playing aint gonna be dead simple neither. I am not pro stormies I just like to find and use overlooked qualities about powers and try to use them.
Stonetanks can do it but dont need to do it, one of their powers "Rooted" actually hinders them, Granite hinders them. A fair trade.
I think its better for people to also work it out than be told. Knowing the game before you play it leaves no stones left unturned and then the magic is missing. I have used websites to look at games and have been able to read that much about a game I felt I didnt need to buy it. I dont want that for CoH.
If what I am doing is a bit of an oversight on the Devs part then "Bugger!". I will say there is gonna have to be some finetuning on my part. Its not as straight forward as people might think but I left GW and Mr "easy to get around the placate" Mako undefeated
If hit by soul storm, you'd need to be unstoppable when solo...-->if hit.
He will honor his words; he will definitely carry out his actions. What he promises he will fulfill. He does not care about his bodily self, putting his life and death aside to come forward for another's troubled besiegement. He does not boast about his ability, or shamelessly extol his own virtues. - Sima Qian.
Hm, so basicly u use the pillboxes to attack them?
And Soulstorm, as far i know it hits through everything, even unstoppable.

The point of Unstoppable wouldn't be to avoid the hold, but to weather it.
Unstoppable is a clicky buff, which grants you capped +resistance and considerable +mez protection which won't be detoggled regardless of how high Mag a hold is. Assuming you have your taunt slotted for +taunt duration, you can hold the aggro of GW through the effects of a Soul Storm when running Unstoppable.
When teamed of course, you just need several Clear Minds/Clarities stacked on you: Easy biccies!
Aaah now i get it As such a unique action of the inv tanker

Best way to get around Soul Storm is to make it unable to hit you or anyone. Making it unable to hit you or anyone is not a unique action of an Invuln.
I look at Tankers as a means to make enemy effects unable to effect other players. Its about using taunt control to cause certain attacks to be directed away from people, completely off of people and prevent attacks from even being an option.

nice one. I once solo tanked GW in one of the 'fight everything' the GMs send at you event in Pocket D months ago with my Stone/SS, but it took Statesman (IIRC) to take her down though

Yeah. On the STF the entire team couldn't dent GW. The team wasn't a perfect mix but even so! We threw everything and she just wouldn't drop.
Why are the "same" AVs so much more powerful on the STF?

Before I even did the STF I knew how her powers worked and so used that knowledge and then gave her minimum chance to heal. We took her out first also because on a first effort because I knew if we couldnt take her down then there is little point going on.

First time we took her down we just buffed the tanks defence and then sat at range. Second time we had a couple of buffed scrappers in there too. After that we did the taunting from range trick. The taunting from range trick seems to be easier so we mostly use that now

I tanked the whole STF on Rooks without using Granite once.
Only died cause of a wierd mako AS thing when fort dropped.
anyway, EPIC WIN.

One has the team to thank. As my empath I have had up to 14 CMs on the Tank (incase something happens to me) and let it goto no less than 6 when they did GW (gone down to 6 with other actions) and because they and the team were good we got thru the STF well. Can one expect another empath to remember/be vigilant or know about 5 CMs alot of the time when they tank? Not really, and when asking how many def slots are in fort the word "none" can come back to you. As any AT, team members can either make things easy or hard and so results are a joint team result.
I joined a PuG STF as my empath once and on the very first AV, the Tanker ran in when I asked to buff everyone and then people started to try and support him before proper he had aggro control. The AV actually ran out and twatted the rest of the team including me, the number 2 on his hitlist, as I was nearest his first target, a controller. No amount of a defenders capabilities is gonna hold up when the Tanker doesnt acquire main target and make sure they are taunted first and buffed people are that much easier to look after.

The key with GW is just making sure she doesnt hit with her dark regeneration, which makes her pretty much unbeatable otherwise due to her AV-sized hp bar. Debuff acc, buff tank defense, etc.

Which also counts as not allowing her to hit with dark regeneration

This is wrong! Makes me mad a little! Icetankers are lovely! Never give up on a lovely icetank or firetank! They are proper tankies!
I spent almost 20 mins this morning Tanking Ghost Widow and Mako, alone, with no support.
People say you need to be Granite or Invuln for the STF.
I am now 99.9% sure its definately balls, so we better round that to 100%.
Its not whats on offer thats stopping anyone.
Tankers have got it good!
Its only because I now play an Ice and a Fire that I have been putting myself more in their shoes and thinking a little extra "out of the box" to most people I have met. The solutions arent that difficult. Being a nutter, forever losing the plot helps
I dont see alot of people thinking around a problem enough, instead they are settling for a "cant be done" conclusion, I have never given in to those 3 words. I wanted an Icetanker mate to listen up, have faith, and all he gives me is his Ice cant do it and levels his stone instead
