Dark/Energy Brute idea.

Since I've never played a Brute before (my main is a mastermind...so pretty far removed from a Brute).

For a character concept I want to use Dark melee and Energy Aura sets. I was wondering if anyone had a suggestions for the build and whether it has been attempted before (if not then why..and don't just say "because it's gimp" give me reasons as to why the build is gimp).

What powers would you suggest and what slotting (only dark melee power that's a 'must have' in my books is Shadow Maul, I like the way it looks...plus have plans to combine it with a certain other three lookalike powers in the future...).

Your help will be much appreciated...oh and it's a PvE build, not PvP...not may taste PVP.

Off the top of my head

1. Shadow maul is often unpopular with brutes. Whilst it is great damage, it has a very long activation time - which translates as less fury. And you need to get as much fury as possible. Its better to quickly cycle low level attacks (much better at building fury).

2. The other way to get fury is being hit. Energy aura has no "taunt aura" which means this is hard. And makes shadowmaul even less attractive. Also, you wont be Mr #1 Choice in teams because you are going to let squishies get beaten to a pulp. I would strongly recommend you get taunt for this reason.

I would assume both sets would work really well with one another, because dark makes you harder to hit and energy is defense based. also dark has siphon life and energy aura is missing a self heal, not sure if siphon life is up to the job but id imagine it would be.

Unfortunately not. I had the same problem with my dark/elec and ended up respeccing into Medicine. Made a huge difference.

As I have one, they do work very well together, but the lack of a taunt aura and the stealth feature can make it difficult to build fury when you have other team members capable of drawing your aggro or MM's in the team.

Basically you want pretty much everything from Energy Aura, you can get away with just shadow maul (used it as the finisher, not the opener) Smite, shadow punch and Air superiority should wish, although of course you do want Soul Drain, Dark Consumption and Energy Drain. Siphon life can be useful as a top up. It IS possible to manage with a staminaless build once you get into the high 20's/low 30's. I do it with no problems at all.

I don't have Aid self at all, and although it makes for some sticky situations you CAN manage. you could think about putting in Weave and Tough to give better S+L dam res and give you the extra def. Overload is the dog's B's though!

This was my old school plan, I am currently lvl 36. Never really had any problems in PvE, (other than a few missions with Psi damage in). But the down side of a defense base set of shields is that you can hit a run of bad luck and you are down with-in seconds. On the whole itÂ’s all pretty versatile with zero end problems.
