Looking for opinions for a defender

Hi,

Been playing CoH for a long time and havnt really got round to playing a defender. I am having difficulty choosing a powerset for a defender, I am leaning towards empathy but I am willing to be persuaded to try something else.

Here's what I have at the moment.

Claw/Regen scrapper
Inv/SS tanker
Kat/SR scrapper
Ill/Kin controller
Warshade
Fire/Enegy blaster
elec/elec blaster

I have tried a bubble/rad defender but it didnt really go anywhere with it. I guess I want something that can solo a bit. I think the problem with the bubble was that no one wanted him on a team!

I have run out of spaces on the server so am going to Union on this one.. does that change anything?

Thanks in advance

All defenders should be good on teams, if you pick the right power choice. Unfortunately, alot of people are only out for heals, and so want empaths, but what can you do? It's possible to get good teams anyway with most sets.

For soloing, good primaries are Dark, Kin, Rad and maybe storm.
Most secondaries are OK, but for damage you'd be good going for sonic, psi or rad.

TA/pointy sticks is good fun, although can't solo for toffee until you at least have oil slick arrow. i'd normally say Kinetics, but I'm not sure if you want to do another Kinetics character as you already have an Ill/Kin Controller. Kin/Rad can be very damaging with the right choices as well, and rad does -def, making your kin stuff hit better as well.

You could roll an Empath/Nrg or Emp/Elec and take your damage that way, or what about an emp/pointy sticks as I see you've done elec and energy with blasters?

Bubble defenders are great on teams, especially when you get SO's, I can't understand why no one wanted you.

My main is a Kin/Sonic. It's a great combo, that you can solo proficiently with the right build, though I feel that, like any defender's, it really shines in teams.

Dark/Sonics solos fairly well and is fun to play.

Dark/Rad Blast is a lot of fun too but works better on teams for the sheer AOE debuffage. I've both around level 20 now.

I would advise you either a Dark/Dark Defender or a Dark/Archery. I have one each, the dark archer is still at low lvl but it has been fun to play, specially on teams, but the Dark/Dark, oh man, I have him at lvl 36 and I am having a real blast of fun everytime I play that toon.
Also I have always been mainly on Defiant and this Dark/Dark is my highest Union toon ever, I teamed with an awful lot of nice people there and had great fun with them, although I luckily joined the Union Badge Hunters channel before it was by invite only. I've done countless TF's there, believe it or not, any TF can be arranged on that channel in less than 15 minutes.-

Besides, Dark Miasma defenders come complete with your own Fluffy!! (pity I can't rename my Dark Servant as Mortimer)

If your looking for simple teaming then Emp/Rad/Dark tend to pick up teams nice and easily imo

I quite like the idea of rad/ or empath/ but dont know what to choose.. maybe a bubbler too but tried that before though.

From the list of your toons I guess an empath might be too passive and team-reliant for you (just like bubblers).
If you don't want a kin/ defender because of your /kin controller I would suggest using dark/ or rad/ primary for good soloability and team performance. Both work well with most secondary sets.

If it has
eyes, you can blind it, if it has blood, you can make it bleed, if it has a mouth, you can make it scream.

Ok.. Rad it is (possibly lol). When I first started I did have a empath/elec defender (got him to about 35) but then changed to my scrapper.

What is Rad/Rad like or is there a better combination for rad/ ?

Rad/rad is good because they both work well together.

Almost decided on a rad/rad defender. Will post a build in another thread
