bit of nostalgia...
Im glad those days are gone tbh.

i remember doing stuff like that was great fun, the eden task force was where i could really shine herd everything around the crystal titan then just let the blasters nuke'em all
I miss it a lot but looking back i can see how it might be a tad overpowered (what i miss more however was having fire shields look like that )
ohh.... when i was a nipper..... lol
i remember those days.... was gr8 fun
LOL, those were the days
Yes thats when tanking was tanking, i loved it was loads of fun, one thing id ask for is to bring back fire shields like that please these new ones are abit rubbish.
No that was 'send in fire/fire tanker, go afk and when u get back u get 5 bars of exp'-tanking Then ago, also the time Blizzard was stupidly lousy
But do agree, fire should get a bity more resist.. they are pretty wussie now.

fire tanks are in no way wussie, i've lasted longer then some granite tanks (healing flames and stupid amounts of damage ftw )
I'm glad the changes came into effect! It just got silly after a while!
I still think they are amazing charachters to use!
Ah the old days of endlessly being asked to fill or bridge so a tank could PL himself....good riddance tbh.

Back in the days ED didnt exsist there was virtualy nothing (except psi) that could kill a granite. Cap resist everything with 6 slotted rooted and health
Where instant healing was a toggle.. 6 slotted ^^
I miss those days

Seeing again that just makes me think 'Where was the challenge? Where was the game?'
It certainly used to be quite broken. Without the ED changes in i5 the CoV AT's would have been a mess, and PvP would be unplayable.
You basicly created your own challenges.
How fast can i heard 40 mobs and take em down with just brawl, for example
No really, there still were challenges, mostly you fight nonstop +4/+5 mobs. And even that tankers were extremly tough, blasters were still squishy and faceplanting was till possible.

Remember entering a mission to find the inv tank had brought the whole map to the door saying in team chat "soul Drain them and kill them"
He had to herd a whole map to start taking damage it seemed. Of course then my regen could use provoke to herd over the current herd cap and live with no issues. Times change. Sometimes for the better. I mean hell if I'd teamed with the guy too long he'd have been the only person to see the maps
"Well, they found my diary today.
They were appropriately appalled
at the discovery of the eight victims
They're now putting it all together.
Women wrapped in silk
with one leg missing
Eight legs, one body, silk,
spider, brilliant!"
The challenge was taken away. On dreck for example, even levels as a Inv/SS you can herd 10 and then defeat 10 of even levels, then as you got higher the amount you herded got less and less. The end draining effects stacking with your attack chain and rage crashes and haste crashes was the only main worry for the Tanker "without support". The challenge existed for the Tanker, 1 in 8. Was it easier to repeat missions than go through Malta and Carnie arcs? Yes it was, herding maps of basic groups was less challenging (although fun) especially with some so called "Pros" in the team who like to get the team ambushed with their skillz.

to be fair to the guy, it's not like he's herding the map without support. he has four luck insps and three fortitudes as well as RA on him at all times... anything could tank a map with that amount of buffs.
The thing that i look back at and miss isn't necescarily the strength of the tanks, it's the aggro and hit caps that we have to deal with these days. Obviously, i'd love to see tanks made a bit stronger, but tbh without removing/modifying the aggro cap there isnt much point as most well built tanks can tank at the aggro cap already against most villain groups.
yes, it may have only been fun for the tank (or the blaster/def with their finger hovering over nova), but
a) this is a tanker forum...
b) you didnt HAVE to bridge, there were plenty of normal teams going around
there was an awful lot of fun in the occasional mega-herd, and thats why people play the game after all.. to have fun
Fun it indeed was.
I can remember this mission, open mission with freaks (not dreck though). We kill a few, about 4 got faceplanted by the tank bosses (+5). As we were rezzing and stuff, tanker says something like 'wait here, i go get a few to get rid of debt'.
Few seconds later he jumping by, stand behind a wall yelling to buff/heal him. about 10 seconds later 50-60 freaks were running in among with 20-25 tankers.. Back in those days u still had the scary feeling of O... M... G.. and crying for your mommy.
back then it was all about extremes, you really felt being a offensive juggernaut as blaster, or the indestructable tanker that feared little. A defender made the huge difference, empaths were loved by everyone.
But solo, a blaster still died the same way he does now. The only difference was that u could ditch out more and faster damage to extend the faceplant moment. The moment your health was close to 10%, hitting BU/Aim and thinking.. i will not die today, while clicking your 6slot nova.
Between then and now, not much changed for my Granite, he still is insane strong on damage taking. But if i look at my fire tanker, i have more moments now i serious feel squishy.
What we did back then, others doing now, probably even better. Fire/kin or rad trollers once again took away the whole fun-factor of the game tbh. When i get in the team with 1, its nearly a 'i win' button.

I had an easier time with my Inv./Fire than my Fire/Fire tank tbh.
The only thing I actually found annoying about those days was the constant "can u pl me plz??". One guy even tried to book me for pl'ing a certain day, gheeeez.... But that kinda went with having the ability to do so.
It's not like those days are over though. Pl'ing is just as easy as before, just with other ATs with certain builds.

i still get tells from people asking to pl or bridge. never really bothered me to be honest.
There's enough content in the 40-50 range to make most people want to play through it, even if they could just dreck to 50. I still never bore of doing the praetorian missions, but it's nice to let your hair down once in a while and pretend you are actually superpowered again with a run around dreck.

I can't herd as I could before, but it's not that I find my tank underpowered at all. I have no problems as long as it's not a late evening where I'm tired and forget to check the health bar.
I had fun with the "Juggernaut effect", but I have even more fun teaming now in comparison to before where I teamed just to increase the number of foes and the social aspect.
i found this whilst looking at another you-tube link someone had posted.
now, i dont wanna start a whole discussion over 'Fiery aura needed nerfing' or not...tho personally i'd like to be able to find a middle ground between then and now in regards to tanking in general... but watching this brought back a fair few memories.
