Hey all

um im not really used to playing scrappers and I have not had a invun or an SR at very high lvl before so i could use some advice..

basically i dont know whether to make a KAT/INVUN or a KAT/SR.. i cannot decide btwn the two so I would like some opinions on them if poss

I realise u have the Divine avalance def bonus + sr def bonus wud make it a very good combo but I dunno something about invun makes me wanna try it

I would be pve'ing and I dont plan on making it a soloer so that might factor into what wud be the best I know sr is end heavy but i dunno invun seems more um.. flashy?

any opinions appreciated ty

SR and invuln toggles are basically the same in end cost however as an Invuln your more likely to be end drained or effected by anyother secondary effects but benefit from resists and extra hp. i think go with concept but id rather play SRs. Invulns are prolly better in PVP mind you and in PVE generally less squishy in a way that time is bought for defenders to aid you better. If its a samurai your making then Invuln is probably best.

INVULN! JUST PICK IT! TAKE IT! NOW!

Err.. Yeah, right..

I love my katana/invuln invuln resists just go so good with divine avalanche. Also, you benefit from teaming as mob sizes are bigger and invincibility gives more def the more enemies there are around you!

Best thing I'd advice is to try both, see which one you like the most. I've only yet got SR to 33 and like it too, although the primary set is spines so I cant say anything about divine avalanche + SR combo.

Personally I'd take katana/invuln, always good to play rare combos (at least that's what I think) because then there's less people telling you how to build your character or expecting you to do something that build "should" do.

hey thanks for the comments so far

well i hope to be teaming a lot at least in a static 3 man so invun might be ok in that respect as I will not really be soloing at all..

i hear SR is a very tight build tho and you have ot take everything to really get the most out of it.. leaving little room for customizing

I dont think DA + sr toggles wud be enough u wud need the passives to im guessing

I can't say anything about invuln, however:
I have a kat/sr at 40 and its great fun. You can't go wrong with kat, the animations and sounds are just so sexy. Right now I have golden dragonfly up every 6-7 seconds or so and even though I must have used it thousands of times since I got it I still love watching it every time.

I like kat/SR as a concept, it just so elegant.

Divine avalanche + focused fighting gives you pretty damn good melee def at low level (in fact if you stack two divine avalanche you'll only be getting hit about 7% of the time), later on you just keep DA on to keep your melee def at the soft cap of 45.

SR is indeed a tight build, you really want to take all 9 powers for PvE. People tend to then either go down medicine or fighting PP to top it off.

I don't know about ivuln, but SR can benefit greatly off IOs. I'm getting between 11 and 13% def from set bonuses to each of the types (range/melee/aoe) which really makes the toon shine. On top of that they are not expensive IO's and they don't gimp your build.

Going further down the line you can boost rech to crazy levels, and you can get some extra recovery and regen to really top out the build for PvE. This will be expensive, but does not require any compromise in your build (e.g. you'll still be pumping out the damage).

As DSorrow says though you will probably see other Kat/SR heroes around, but kat/invuln is going to be more rare.

Invuln is better at holding aggro (for obvious reasons) which can be helpful when you're on squishy guarding duty, or proxy tanking.

That Id agree and like the above poster says invulns aggro control better so ya more likely to get more out of cones and pbaoes an all.

What you said about IOs, invuln is good for those too. Currently my kat/invuln is sitting at +35% rech and 35.5% recovery on top of that I got +10% aoe def, +10% neg nrg res, enough mez protection to keep me more than safe and also a nice +41% acc

What I'm trying to say, even if many players dont play invuln it is good and that it can be IOd out as well without gimping yourself. Most just havent found out that, I prefer my kat/invuln to my ma/regen because personally I find my invuln more survivable in big teams! And who doesnt like having lots and lots of flashy effects going?

yer will i like the flashy

i was gonna go regen but i thought .. really.. thats just taking the easy option hehe

SR i know on paper is probably the best but there isnt any real graphic to it unlike unyielding, TI, invincibility etc lol

i guess i will just have to try both at same time till there is a clear winner :/

I have a 50 kat/inv and it is fun to play although sr is my favourite. Inv fits very well on katana imo, it will breeze during low lvls, the 2 major flaws are that at high lvls you will be easily drained by sappers/carnies and you will be dead meat against clockwork king and psi dmg, but it´s a good set, specially for a 1st time scrapper (if that the case). For SR i´d recommend you to roll a dm/sr, it´s a fun toon to play indeed.

What he (Nightmarer) said! None of the first time scrappers should pick regen just because it's teh imba wolv3rin0rz reg3nning. Invuln offers a better challenge imo and is more survivable in cases like alpha strike and such.

i have a lvl 46 Ma/spr, first toon i made but i found it very fun to play, i've only missed 1 of the powers from the spr set but i wanna put it in just for good messure, although some would dissagree but don't go for the fighting poll because that'll only help you against lethal and smashing and none of the other dmg types; aim for the medicine 1 instead, you'll thank me later
1 thing i noticed though is that you have to be very patient with the first few lvls, they can be really hard if you get in over your head

I'm a medicine pool user on my DM/SR, but I mostly made it for boss fighting and bosses have really varied damage, much better to be able to top up quick

For teams, id say invun pips it by a shade. It controls aggro, and in large spawns you get proportionally more accurate and... well... hard.

If you really want to go for a team build, go Dark Armour. AoE damage, AoE fear, AoE Heal, AoE disorientate. Heck, even the self rez is AoE in effect.

Regen Scrappers are fun to play though. The early levels are a breeze due to the lack of endurance issues.

The real challenge for regens comes later on at 40+ when mobs start hitting a lot harder.

If you are going to be PvE and mainly in a team and want a Scrapper you could try a BS/DM Scrapper. BS offers great burst damage coupled with DM's AoE effects, such as Death Shroud, Cloak of Fear etc.

Endurance can be an issue but if you have a BS/DM, your team mates will most certainly appreciate it.

here is a rough idea of 2 makeshift builds.. one inv and one regen.. let me know what you think. I am not the worlds greatest char builder so it might be screwed up a little hehe :P I dont know all the io set bonuses yet so i just put in standard io's for now i need to read up on all the IO sets. I take aid self quite late i know but I do that cus I assume the fact I will be teaming a lot with mates (one will be a healer) i might be able to live on just bringing insps lol.

[/ QUOTE ]

You're quite right - I would disagree.

The fighting pool does not protect you from smashing and lethal only, tough does, but weave gives you +def to all. Also the steadfast protection res/+def IO can go into tough. This means you can get +10% def to all from these two powers alone, and believe me going from ~30% def to ~40% def is a huge difference. On top of that the smashing and lethal resist from tough is damned useful - S/L are by far the most common damage types in the game.

However I would certainly agree that the medicine pool is a good choice, and you only need to take 2 powers from the pool to get the benefit, unlike the three you need from fighting. Without it you are going to have to rely on insps and external healing because even under elude you will take damage.

If you are going to take medicine pool in a kat/SR build I would suggest taking it earlier though.
For example swap it with dodge and quickness:
- Dodge will be largely covered by divine avalanche.
- Quickness is only a 20% rech buff, and this can be replaced by sets.

Crushing impact in melee attacks - 5 slotted will give you 5% recharge bonus (as well as some other tasty bonuses)
Red fortune in defences - 5 slotted will give you 5% rech, 6 slotted gives you 2.5% ranged def as well.
I would recommend slotting two melee attacks with 5 crushing impact IO's, and 6 slotting all three def toggles with red fortune. This gives you a total of 7.5% ranged def (which is awesome really) and 25% rech as well as some other good set bonuses.

Also I'd really advise taking hurdle instead of swift - with only SS it's a pain in the neck getting anywhere!

you'll probably need a recharge in Divine Avalanche to get it to stack with hasten.
