It would be doubtful that would happen if you used nrg ab first. max as a question do u have a high lvl ice tank? because if u did u'd know that happens only extreme cases or at least it does for me

I've got 2 and while it is fairly rare, it does happen. If you've got 4 or 5 +3/+4 Freak Tanks around you, hitting for ~500HP worth of damage then if 3 of them get lucky in the space of a few seconds, you're dead. Even with the worlds greatest reflexes you tend to find that Hoarfrost hasn't finished activating by the time you're on the ground.

Yes, you can pre-emptively use Hoarfrost or pop orange insps, but not for every group of mobs - at least not practically.

[/ QUOTE ]Yes, I do. I'm not saying it happens all the time, but that it does happen, and there's really nothing (apart for being perma RES buffed) you can do to prevent it.

I find it happens to me, there few and far between i'll say that, to prevent it though I usualy just Hoar Frost up before a battle with a particulary nasty mob, and use any Shield Inspirations i've got lying around, that seems to counter it, that plus Hibernate is a quick recharge

Mathematically, im not sure about this. Being surrounded by lots of minions all attacking you. Is a defence based toon more likely to get felled quickly?. With such an immense amount of small damage attacks being thrown at you the chance of you getting felled becomes incredibly low. Im not sure in THIS circumstance a defence tank is any worse of than a resistance tank (who will be hit by everything around him far far far far more often than a defence based tank). My maths is far from excellent but in my limited way I dont think a defence based tank is worse off. (Someone handy with normal distribution and probability vs damage / dps / aps may correct me ).

The problem is, like Spad says, when you face off a couple of big big hitters - in this case you do run the gauntlet and are worse of than resistance tanks.

Def scales dont it but not in the way people may like, i think my SR is obviously more likely to get hit by bosses that are +4 than +3 but by not just simply because the bosses are higher but because the tohit calculation makes it even easier.

He will honor his words; he will definitely carry out his actions. What he promises he will fulfill. He does not care about his bodily self, putting his life and death aside to come forward for another's troubled besiegement. He does not boast about his ability, or shamelessly extol his own virtues. - Sima Qian.

/e yawn... just make your Ice Tank Miss. It's an iceberg, you'll love it.

i personally prefer resistance to defence, this is because with resistance you are continiously being hit (pretty much) and you can keep and eye on your health easier and react alot quicker, with defence sure you dont get hit, but when you do you need to react very fast, otherwise you have a team faceplant on your hands.

edit: saying all this i have a lv 35 ice/ice tank, and it rules

now, i no i have come a bit late and everything has been
said but i wanted to share my experience with my ice/EM tank

currently he is lvl 39 and i have loved him from lvl 1 but the thing that made me pick ice was defence rather then resistance just for a change of pace.

after getting to the 30s i fitted in aidself which included all the shields and the dull pain power (cant remember its really name)

i found that even with all my shields and a little boost from EA i still got hit far more times that i had to fit aid self in.

i respected at 33 and got rid of aid self and got taunt and whirling hands (after heavy persuation from fellow players)

at first i was fine without aid self when only fighting +1 enemies but +2 and +3 hit me to consistantly for my liking so i plan to respec bak into aid self.

YMMV but i do have to say that my secondary helped alot
all the stuns in EM plus the mag 3 stun in total focus really helped (not sure if its mag 3) not to mention the high damage i was putting out, even +2 lt feel with 2 hits

getting back to the question at hand i dont think ice is squishy, it has limits limits just like granite, for example

i was teamed with a granite, same lvl as me fighting +2 crey
he was confident he could hold aggro of entier room so i let him. within 4 mins he died which followed a team wipe with only me left in hibernate.

all my long winded explanation is trying to show is....
with X ammount of enemies even granite will fall eventually
and the same can be said for ice as well

ok im done, sry for making it so long

i gave my ice tank tough and weave, didnt really want hibernate, but she is extremely hard to kill anyway. (still only has brawl, boxing, ice fists and greater ice sword as an attack chain though >_&gt

Ice is a nice set, though the random "moment of death" does happen when everything just gets past the ice
Yesterday I got hit by everything in the mob it seemed, took me down to a sliver of health that was just able to regen faster than some dot I was suffering. But then the moment ended and reverything went back to missing me, mad me feel like a god

At least till my end crashed damn zappy stuff.
