Devs and pvp events
Yup we have a nice PvP sg overseas. We have several teams going on at a time and some 50s already (with Hami-Os). Thing is, sadly, PvP in EU is dead, but in US it's very popular
well US actually has people in it

You didn't answer the question do the devs/moderators arrange PvP events there or they similarly player-organised?
I'm pretty sure the Dev's don't organize events over there as they do here, just the occasional S4 like tourny.

instead they insist on, a rock paper scissors tourny

Nothing wrong with that! That requires great skill to master!!!
Funny, the zones have been bursting at the seems with people knocking the [censored] out each other. If you repeat the phrase "pvp is dead" often enough people will believe it and it will become true.

I think he meant organised PvP, like arena events etc.
Well yeah, post is based around (( 'Devs' and pvp Events, and that they hardly host any ))But i did also say about the PVP on EU Just about Dead.

HeHe i know jum, but these kind of thing 'are not' needed, but the thing is with pvp on EU is, it is dying...and its a big element of online games

Been playing this game for hmm 17months now..18 in november most of it, i have Pvp'd Zones, arena, etc the thing that annoys me is that and iveonly seen 1 pvp event hosted by the devs and that was the S4 tournie, instead they insist on, a rock paper scissors tourny...Why is it always us players setting up the pvp event...squished...3vp..warburg weekly raid..etc, i tihnk the city of heroes staff should think about hosting more pvp events..with rewards
I have also noticed a dramatic downfall in pvp on the EU servers, and i have heard rumours of most of the arena pvp SG's moving to the US.

It would be good if the devs did more but i'm happy with players setting stuff up, no qualms here!

Dangerously on target with that statement , pvp is not dead on the EU, (i'm guessing not as mad as on the US though) Siren's and Warburg are rampant with activity, possibly the occasional low, Bloody Bay is sadly often desolate but has had a small surge lately (shame, tis a great map!) and RV i know to be quiet.
I've seen a couple of badge farming posts, but what about some BB or RV posts, pitching villains against heroes? Like many other pvp'ers, I'm willing toswap to the underdog side and help keep it even

I'm in SC almost every night anyway.
BB is a bit too large a map for the number of players it pulls in, and without a bounty system to give a clue where people are, you can walk around all day and see no one. Introducing bounty to BB might help seeing as you have more help locating targets. I know a lot of people use BB as a sort of arena and wouldnt like this idea as duelling tends to break the bounty system. Hopefully this will push them into arena pvp and help that grow a bit more. That is if high level players include them, there seems to be a sort of lvl 50 snobbery concerning the arena.

Arena fighting is ok, but it lacks the chaos of a PvP zone

I seem to remember a thread on the US forums giving a plaync email address to send playerorganised events for inclusion on the main web page there. wondering if we going to get something like this on the EU side?
I think we can just email Bridger to be honest...
Then maybe we should start up some more events, and start lettig bridger know, get some support from them, ad maybe some good event rewards

I haven't been there long enough to know, tbh, but I'll keep you informed
There was a sirens call event in EU once not too long ago, wasnt there? Iirc there were so many people that 'lag was horrible'. I don't see this is a problem of lack of players, but more of the hardware and game..

Is this the player organised one or bridger vs rockjaw?
I missed the player one but yes, the dev organised one was a lag fest, after that no wonder they are reluctant to set up new ones. Out of interest, with balanced sides, how many do you need for a good punch up? I've had as good a time with 6 people in the zone as i have with 20 or more.

I think it's a case of
Arena PvP: Generally seen as high end, so may scare people off (also it's harder to be lame and run away when you're losing). Also, Arena Bugs don't help official events.
Zone: Well, lag. That and people being idiots in broadcast, which is unavoidable.

Not to mention player's reluctance to organise arena events or even fights below lvl 47-50. Not everybody is friend to a PLing group. I have seen insane amounts of people in the PvP zones who I have never seen at arena, or even talk at arena channel. And I mean people who fight, not PvE in those zones. I see majority of these people as 'casual PvPers' and these are the ones who we should organise events for.
Imo PvP zone events would be better in the sense that most of the time spent in an arena tourney are spent waiting and chatting. Or observing in which case you cant chat outside teamspeak. In the zones everybody could participate instantly. Although there are weak points in zone pvping as well.
Too bad the game can't handle big zone events.. Although I hear that US pvp zones would have that many people most of the time..?

Seen as high end by who?
By the people who like to play there, and also portrayed that way by them ("you have to be this tall to get on this ride" sort of thing, which is a bigger factor than players feeling intimidated). Both require different skills, but one isnt "better" than the other, simply different. As you demonstrated, stopping people running is one skill which is a bigger factor in the zones.

I personally view Arena pvp as (depending on opponent) requiring a higher skill set than zones. Generally it's a fairer fight, even teams, one set of inspirations, you can tweak factors like the time limit, level, things like travel powers, invis, tactical start.
Arena PvP is highly customisable and therefore more suited to organised events, in my opinion.
The Arena also has the major advantage of being able to do small fights (1v1, 2v2 etc...) with relative ease, without anyone interupting it. People 1v1'ing in zones should go to the arena, when I hit a zone I don't want to see an argument over broadcast because some guy "just wanted to fight his friend". IT'S WHAT THE GOD DAMN ARENA IS FOR!
@Hammerfall: I wouldn't say that the US PvP zones handle 100+ players on a regular basis, at all.

Yeah, that would've been me that got that one sorted =]
And yeah, concerning player events on the website, just e-mail Bridger about a week or two in advance of it, and he'll get it up for you, that's what I did =]
Probably thinking of organising another raid again sometime soon o-o Once I get my computer sorted out
Tbh, if the Dev's organised more PvP events like S4 (although I wansn't here around then, but have heard of it which really intruiges me), then I think more people would be inclined to stay on, and the mass movement to the US that happened wouldn't of.

Arena pvp is humongously buggy years after going live
Arena is massively undynamic and slow to set up for more than duels as anyone who has tried to set up an event which includes more than your usual clique
Arena is a number crunch and there is little poetry to it, by this i mean its timed so its merely smash as fast as you can as often as you can, there is little opportunity for subtlety or innovation.
Its massively uncustomisable, you cant even chose a map relevant to your numbers, how many times have we been stuck with the damn office map with a crazy amount of people?
Arena needs fixing, it wouldnt take much to resolve it either
**Acceptable "support" responses**
Its your fault
Its your computers fault
Its your ISPs fault

Spot on, I noticed when after the s4 tournie, alot more people started using the arena, it isnt all that bad, and ok..it needs fixing. but if you go to somewhere like guild wars, you will see the diferance in the arena systems, and how more adanced the CoH one is.
Like what jum said...if the devs bothered to do more with pvp, maybe not everyone would of moved to the US, now i see NO arena pvp what so ever, its stupid.
So if the des aren't going to do anything looks like the players are going to have to AGAIN.
