Stories for wings.
For Miss Ellie, it's easy... Kheldians ARE afterall, shapeshifters of a fashion... It's just that the game only shows you three of their forms...

Wings don't have to be a part of the character's physiology - they can be purely decorative (fancy dress, for example)
Secondary and Tertiary mutations can lead to the development of wings - plus rolling a new character and playing them with wings (albeit not visible until 20) would work, imho.
I doubt Princess will ever get a pair of wings and I'm not even considering the trenchcoat (*gasps in shock*) but my Peacebringer will most-certainly have them. Especially if auras are to encompass the wings!
Also, going back to the point about new characters - I believe I can finally make a go of certain characters when wings appear. I had a concept for a bird-boy which may well now get the go ahead on the Villainous side.
In short, there's no 'sensible' way to explain wings other than personal choice of you, the player. I'm sure that we'll see many characters developing wings because, well, you have to admit that they look cooool, and with the new flight animations also coming up - well, I'm not sure another string of Os is needed
Super heroes are always having costume changes and they often reflect a change in the character's experiences and immediate need (battle armour being a popular one which I myself have tried out and liked)
New characters will have wings from the start, they just can't *also* wear capes.
And for existing characters - new mutations, magical manifestations, "I always had wings, I just kept them hidden", bio-engineered grafts (either practical or "thay just look cool")... I think that pretty much any character could justify them, if they really want to.
Alfred is too 'cool' to have wings.
"Hah, puny people having to manipulate airflow with physical appendages." *levitates and shows off*
Hmmm, been stuggling with this one for a while.
I am now semi-retired and will not be online for...oOoh,well into i8 probably nearer i9.
This would give my character an ideal opportunity for a re-birth story. Maybe she passes on to be re-born as an angel etc.
The trouble is everyone that knows me, knows me as looking a certain way ie: all in white, light medieval armour with looped braids and a cape.
Hmmm, probably reading too much into it?, may just stick with the old recognisable outfit and roll the wings on my secret alts.
i think the 'angel' story is just coming up a lot, and Jack puh same as Alfred, who needs wings? WHEN I GOT A KILT!! lol
Cools, thanks for your input guys. I've been playing on where to take Pious plot-wise, and was thinking of avoiding the cliche of angel-wings. Thats why I opened the thread. Anyone else going for angel wings? lol.
Anyway. Pious is a mutant suffering.. severely.. from the development of his powers and I think I know how to explain fetheared wings now.
He's currently in a coma and over the two years of dementia has has developed a split personality disorder; a self-proclaimed messaic angel named Nuntius Angelus who will soon either take over or unite with Pious.
Anyone sees a red lizard running around on Defiant, that'll be Cinderstrike, my new main on the other side of the world. He won't be getting wings in I8 as I won't qualify for them (yet!). But as he's a very young dragon his wings will come when he hits 'dragon puberty' for want of a better word.
Tara will be getting her villanous wings later on simply because of more dark energy flowing from the Netherworld and into her. The more that comes through, the more it will empower her and change her appearance, wings included. Plus, with an army of flying zombies, you need an armour clad Valkyrie at the head of the charge.

A staple of certain genres is that as a character progresses, and gets more power, their outfits and appearances can change. Now, very often, wings are a part of that final progression, the ultimate form, as it were. Hell, it even applies to the DBZ brigade, alas.

You do know that you can put wings on any character from level one onwards?
Claiming the Isles (The Nemesis Strike Force), Arc 448371 - Rogueish action from the Prussian Prince of Automatons himself!
I think Dante means that he hasn't played 15 months, thus won't be able to recieve the reward yet.
Glad other people are having to struggle to think up relevent reasons
For Mercy Knight my villain it will just be a result of his recovering from the insidious power nullifying drugs/tech that Longbow used on him in the Zig...Though Im not sure I want to lose the cloak
Damselfly saddly would need insecty wings so at the moment none of my heroes would have wings .
I've got an idea for a clawed/regen scrapper who'll have wings. I wanted to stay clear of the Wolverine clone scenario so instead he's a mutant who's evolving raptorial characteristics calling himself Jayhawk.
Only two of my chars would be able to have wings, one who is dead and when he shows what he really looks like.. He has wings. The other who is a normal person who has been posessed, and when he's been in his unnatural way for too long he will sprout wings. Both will have demonic.
I am the Blaster, I have filled the role of Tank, Controller and Defender
Sometimes all at once.
Union EU player! Pip pip, tally ho, top hats and tea etc etc
For a kheldian to sprout wings wouldn't they have to have once had a host which was of a winged race? Therefore if they wanted to use the wings they'd have to change all their body like they do with the other forms. That means that they wouldn't look like the human host. As far as any of the fiction goes, they are not full shapeshifters but they can turn into energy forms of their old hosts.
Heres a few things of how it could be
Science: You been fused with an Eagle or Bat
Technology: The wings are mechanical
Magic: You have a magic braclet so you can summon wings.
Mutation: You where born with them or thay have grown out after your mutation was awoken.
Neutral: Your not from earth and on your planet/dimension wings are normal.
this are just the most simple ideas for wings... so there is alot of possablityes

I heard that they would put in alot more wing patterns, such as robot wings, insectoid, ghost-like and so on.. luckily since im a tech/dark brute, i can pick the demon wings and make em pitch black i guess :P darkness ftw!
@MidnightGuard - on Union you may know me as:
Mr. Vile - Electroman X - Zenodorus - Battler
Naga Knight - Stinkspitter
The wings I have planned for my Kheldian will be a natural part of the human form - the character as he stands now looks like an everyman on the street. He wears glasses, so when he shoots energy from his eyes he would, naturally, lower his glasses a lá Superman.
Kheldians, as far as I know, don't have to bond with 'pure' human hosts (i.e. from Earth).
Well, I'm considering getting a pair of big feathery ones for my new character. He's a claws/invul scrapper, and I want to try something new with that.
I had a pretty cool story lined up, if i ever actually go through with it. Summed-up it goes something like;
'People thaught angels were a myth. THEY WERE WRONG. Whilst the entire world developed, there was a branch of some of the first mortals with superpowers, all of whom developed one wthing in common; a distinctly angelic appearance. They have long since died out.
***skip to the not too distant future***
A genetics company, owned by a renowned Philanthropist, has found deformed skeletal structures of what appear to be humans. Using 3D modelling, and after a long time, they have accurately dated and identified their discovery: Angels. Beings of great power, but as natural to this Earth as any human. They are superior in almost every way, bar mental capacity and viral resistance, thus, the law case over whether they are to be cloned from the remains begins. Unfortunately, foul play is unearthed, the company has bribed the right people to win the case, and is sued by multiple human rights commitees to the point of utter bankruptcy. Weeks later, the philanthropist kills himself, burning down his house. What is not known (until now, obviously) is that they had already made multiple clones, years ago, and that these clones are now alone in the world, Angels In Purgatory.'
My main angelic was going to be called BloodHawk, but unfortunately, that was taken
Ahhh, Well My Characters Almost All With Raven in there name are mutants, so well its self explanitry
Just putting a few questions out to other roleplayers to influence my own concepts for Pious. Obviously this might give spoilers to some of you lot's plots so I dont expect a great deal of response.
How will you guys explain your character's wings (if they'll be getting some after i8). And why do they suddenly have these wings after all these years? (if they've been around without wings)
