Claws/Inv

Another alt to come and this time will be an Invuln Scrapper. What powers are skipable on */Inv set? I'm looking at the CoH builder right now and they all seem useful if I want to scrap nicely. And about Focus.. Does it works like a Build Up? If it does it has a really small recharge (wich is uber *drools*). Tips are welcomed. Cheers

dont really know , but there is a dicussion about claws/invul on page 3

Follow up is the "BU" of claws, attack with medium damage, not too long recharge. It doesn't give as big a boost as BU does, but it's perma, and (IIRC) stackable.

For invul, REL, REN and Tough Hide would be the 3 things to skip IMO.

REN and REL give debatable protection, fully slotted they're not worth much, hence at various stages I've either picked them and single slotted them or skipped them completely. The main problem with Invuln is that anything ranged just kills you completely. You will grow to hate spawns close together and Nemesis.

Tough hide is useful IMO, because 3 slotted it negates thne -def from unyielding.

So far I'm enjoying pretty much this Scrapper. Here's the plan I've made for it:

Exported from Ver: 1.6.9.0 of the CoH_CoV Character Builder

Name:
Level: 47
Archetype: Scrapper
Primary: Claws
Secondary: Invulnerability

I'm not sure if I'll pick Shockwave, REL and REN. I might go for Tough instead. Just wondering if I need more EndReds or this should be fine? Cheers

well speaking as a level 50 claws/invun and having had said 50 for a good few months, i'll add in my 2p's worth.

i played a lot solo on this scrapper, so i took EVERYTHING from the invun set and slotted it heavily. as it stands now i've been known to solo brutes in siren's, and co-tank AV's with another similarly slotted /invun scrapper with us taking it in turns to use unstoppable. as for the claws, i use strike, spin, focus, follow up and eviscerate from the set, with AS from flight and the taunt as well in case i need it.

unyielding is something i've taken for granted on this toon, i miss it badly when playing other alts now, the knockback and hold resists it offers are really quite good, if nothing else make sure you take this!

i guess it depends on your playstyle and how often you team and who with, as i said this was a solo build for me, designed to take a lot of punishment from invincible missions with no healer, and while not amazingly fast at killing things due to my end reductions over damage SO's he does the job and thats what counts right?

you can catch me on my global @shingi if you want a demonstration, he's on defiant and i'm about most evenings.

Looks good to me .

I do agree with MaX though, Aid Self, while not mandatory, will increase your survivability tenfold. Dull Pain is nice, but it's your only heal - and it has a rather long recharge rate.

A few taunt enhancers in Invincibility can do wonders for the build too - but I'd recommend getting to at least 32 before considering it. Invuln is a great set for mini-Tanking, but you (imo) need to know the set inside out first. Of course, some people are fast learners .

Tough Hide is nice, but again with MaX, I wouldn't put it in the mandatory list. Decent power, but as with a lot of sets: toggles first, passives after. You may find you don't need it at all - I haven't done.

All Claws powers good (though not a fan of Follow Up), the endreds are useful, but your toggles will drain more of your endurance than your attacks will.

All in all, it looks very much like my build which I can vouch for . I really do hope you enjoy the character, as there aren't nearly enough Claws/Invulns around - which is madness, as the sets combined can produce a fabulous character, with an easy playstyle, beautiful defence, high DPS (not uber high, but get a chain going and you're laughing), incredibly fast recharge rates, low end cost and glowiness!

Come, join the ranks of level 50 Claws/Invulns!

[/ QUOTE ]Incorrect. If assuming an attack has the same recharge and endurance cost (as most do, or are close anyways), and attacks are used the moment they're up, they'll drain 1 EPS per attack. Very few toggles cost more than that, certainly not the invul ones.

My point was, and I think it got lost, that the end cost of Claws is minimal, and the end cost of Invuln is tiny. It's entirely possible to run a Claws/Invuln build without Stamina - but after playing for close on two years on this type of character, seeing her through all the very many nerfs and buffs, I've noticed that the toggles do take more of your endurance than the attacks.

Running my usual attack chain without any of my toggles on, and I'll lose possibly one eigth of my endurance.

Running the same chain with my toggles on, and I'll lose closer to half of my endurance.

[/ QUOTE ]But, running your toggles without attacking, you'll not lose any endurance. Thus, logically, attacks take more endurance than toggles

Claws is all about the Follow Up.

Spin is easily forgettable, even if the animation is cool, and I've never missed Swipe - although it's much improved since the Claws changes.

Even if it is a pretty lame attack, it was one of the main reasons why I went for Claws. I love them for concept but having a permanent damage and accuracy buff (Not sure about the numbers but lets say 30%)? Uuuuuuber
Anyway, so far I've picked Strike, Slash and Follow up. I do think Slash is a good attack (-def helps a bit at low lvls) and probably I'll keep it for quite a while. I've never been a fan of Shockwave. It might be fun to use, but I don't like knockback effects that much.
About Inv, it is my first time with an Inv Scrapper. But I'm aware of the value of most powers. Picking all of them was my first intention but REL and REN aren't worthy. I'll go for Aid or Tough+Weave. Thanks for feedback

Don't underestimate Shockwave.

With use of Focus as well, you can keep Bosses on their backsides for a good portion of the fight, and if you're overwhelmed by a mob then Shockwave gives you a fair bit of breathing space.

Granted, it's not something you'll toss in with a regular attack chain, but don't be too quick to dismiss its value.

Passives I realy dont want to get them, but im sure I remember a rumour that they were being looked at to make them more attractive.

Anyone remember what was said about them.

Posted

Well for now it's just a rumour so I'll skip it. But yes, I do agree that some passives should be improved (ie: adding +res/+def bonus per foe in melee range or something like that).

[/ QUOTE ]This was about all passives however, so if they are adjusted, it will be a change affecting lots of powersets, and thus likely to come with a freespec.

Have a qustion about follow up and no point starting a thread.

Does it have to hit to get the buff?

Yes, you do have to hit. I'm L14 and I hit 90% of the times and the downtime is somewhere around 2secs. For PvE 1accuracy SO and 1Recharge should do fine (remember that you can make it perma, so by the 2nd time you hit FUp it will have the boost from the previous FUp. That's why I think 1acc SO will do fine)

My kat/inv scrapper's been at 50 for a year I think. Dont know much about the claws set but I'll give my 2 cents at inv. I got every single power from inv, all slotted, even the passives with 3res. I run all the 3 toggles with FA always (get FA at 41 instead of the passives), conserve energy is also nice against endurance draining mobs.
I dont have hero builder at my side atm, posting this from school, but I'll give you an idea about my slots on the /inv powers
All passives: 3x res (except tough hide which is 3x def)
Temp invuln & unyielding: 3x res, 2x endrdx
Invincibility: 3x def, 2x endrdx, 1x tohit
Dull pain: 3x rechrdx 3x heal
Unstoppable: 3x rechred, this doesnt really benefit from the 3x res if you got 3res in all toggles and passives like I do.
Tough and weave is a waste to get on /inv scrapper, the +def from weave is around 5% trislotted, and you dont need more S/L res. I dont have aid self but might be getting it in I8 if I can find the powers to throw away
With running an attack chain of 5 or 6 attacks depending on how much slow effects I got on me, running 5 toggles (3 inv toggles, combat jumping and FA) I can manage my endurance and tank an AV without unstoppable, which I mostly use when the team is getting hurt.

Hope this helped
