Geek Contest! Large prizes and fun for all geeks!
I'm in, the riddle cotest was great and I should think this will be two
I'm in.
Quizzes are awesome! The last SG-one I ran worked really well as a variant of 15-to-1.
Good luck with it

Well, it certainly looks like there's enough interest... it's a go, then!
Next friday - the 15th, innit? - at 7PM BST, under the statue of Atlas, the competition begins.
The Rules: I'll state a question, and the first person to give me the correct answer gets a point and 100.000 Influence. I react to the first correct answer to appear on my screen, so it's no use complaining about lag. If a competitor states 3 wrong answeres, he's out for that round.(To prevent people from just guessing randomly)
When I run outta time or questions, whichever comes first, the competitor with the most points receives the Jackpot of 2.000.000 Influence! BUT, there are a couple of extra rules, just to complicate matters...
High Roller! When a competitor answeres a question correctly, he can choose to 'gamble'... then, instead of receiving 100.000 inf on the spot, twice that ammount will be added to the Jackpot! So, a good strategy to use if you're expecting to win...
A little help? Some of these questions will be rather difficult, so if nobody can answer the question unaided, I'll give out a hint... guessing the answer after the hint's been given is only worth 50.000, or 100.000 if you declare High Roller.
If there's a draw between two or more competitors at the end of the event, a tie-breaker quiz will be used... I shan't say more than that, though.
Well, that's the rules, see that you remember them - and see you next friday.
I'm in.... but wouldn't Pocket D be a far more sensible place than Atlas?

Then there'd be no audience... just an occasional tumbleweed.
Im in but only have villains - if the location switches to Pocket D - Ill seeya there

I'm not sure an Atlas Park audience is a good idea anyway. Besides, every time I've been to an event in Pocket D, it's been bursting at the seams.
Oh wait, that was Union....

I tend to find Atlas is a lot quiter on Defiant than Union and the Pocket D is usualy always empty, I only ever go there to buy inspirations or for a short cut. But I suppose if you did it in the Pocket D our evil halfes could come and participate too.

Thing is, even in Pocket D, you can't transfer inf between heroes and villains - and I don't have enough Infamy lying around to pay out these kinda' prizes. That's why I'm making it as a heroes-only event, my main hero got the dough.

Which makes it a perfect place to hold an event, no?
Even if it is just for heroes, anyone who comes to watch from the villains side would work just as well.
If you're going to do it in Atlas Park then fair enough. Just seems to me that this kind of thing is what Pocket D was made for...

You may be right - and next time I host such an event, maybe I'll put it in Pocket D. But changing the venue at this point might cause confusion and resulting in some people going to D, while other stand around futilely in Atlas Park. So, this time, Atlas is the place.
Ill be there but probabbly just to watch us Welsh arnt known for our brains.
Okay, the contest is tomorrow, so here's a couple of last-minute announcements... firstly, the length of the competition will be extended from max 1 hour to max 1½ hour, due the the high number of geek trivia questions I've managed to collect. The contest will still end when I run out of questions, however, so it's enitrely possible that it won't run longer than 1 hour after all - it all depends on how easily the questions are answered.
Also, now and then a BONUS QUESTION may pop up. These little gems are conciderably harder than the rest of the lot, and as such award a whooping 500.000 inf to whoever can answer them correctly. Mind, though, that you cannot declare 'High Roller' on a Bonus Question, which would otherwise have added a whole million to the jackpot... I DO have limited means, y'know. :P
I'm going to have to pull out....
bushbaby's computer just died and I've just lost a whopping 512Mb of memory (stick dead) - I'm realllllly hoping it's not the Mobo slot that did it either.
If I can get bushbaby's up and running I may pop by, but it's looking doubtful.
Good luck all and I'll be there the next time

Too bad you couldn't come, Aardvark - it was a blast. I ended up paying a neat 6.700.000 inf in prizes, but it was worth it. Fire Guardian won the match with 11 correct answers, netting him the Jackpot of 2 mil plus 100.000 per answer - 3.100.000 inf. Weasel came in a close second with 10 correct replies, getting him a neat million - but Transcendant Ghost (never figured out whos alt he was, if any), who came in third with 8 correct answers, also answered one of the Bonus Questions for 500.000, thus netting him a total of 1.200.000 inf, effectively putting him ahead of Weasel in terms of prizes.
Distruptagon and Wamdue shared the fourth place with 3 correct answers a piece, while Dark Marvel (Is he somebody's alt? Never found out...) and Stasis came in last with 2 points each... BUT, Stasis got one of the Bonus Questions, thus netting her 600.000 total, so she wasn't really too badly off.
Anyway, it was loads of fun, and I learned a couple of things I'll keep in mind next time I host a quiz... like, 'Don't set it up in the middle of atlas plaza'...
Sorry about missing it. I totaly forgot all about it, and stumbled across it on my way to pay base rent. Sorry BD.
I also got the fastest generic'd hero (2 minutes)
Well I'll be there next time - assuming this piece of malformed hardware keeps itself alive....

You should have heard Weasel on TS during the contest. I kept pipping him to the post with certain answers, and he'd let out a little plaintative yelp every time I beat him.
Yeah, it happened numerous times that Weasel and Guardian would both give the correct answer - often with the exact same wording - and Guardian just cam ein a microsecond before Weasel... some of the other contestants suggested that they might actually be the same person, playing two accounts at the same time...
A while back, I hosted a riddle contest - it was a moderate success, so I thought I'd do something like that again... only, nothing like it.
The idea of the Riddel Contest was, that it would require no actual knowledge, just raw brainpower. This is the direct opposite - I will host a contest that will test the limits of your Geek Knowledge! Movies, games, comic-books, internet memes, everything odd and geeky...
However, I want to test the waters before I go ahead and spend too much time setting this thing up. So if you'd be interested in competing, let me know! If there's at least 5 interested competitors, the competition's a go.
As for timing, I figure Friday evening, maybe 7 PM BST or so. After all, any true geek won't have anything better to do on a friday night...
Oh, and as for the prizes, 2.000.000 goes to the winner, and there's additional prizes of 100.000 inf for each question answered correctly... and maybe more... I'm gonna complicate the rules this time, but I'll post more details if there's sufficient interest.
