Plant/Thorns Dom - advice please!

Hello all,

Currently playing my very first Dominator, a Plant/Thorns build, and I'm finding her very low on endurance already. She's only level 8, so was quite surprised as none of my other alts have had this problem until the mid teens at worst. Basically, was just wondering if any of you more experienced Dom players knew which powers are particularly endurance hungry, so that I can slot some nice blue enhancements.

Powers I currently have...

Plant Control
Strangler
Roots
Spore Burst

Thorny Assault
Thorny Darts
Fling Thorns

Any advice regarding this greatly appreciated and please feel free to lob any other advice you may have too. I'm really enjoying this character and I want her to keep on tying people up with maximum effectiveness.

Cheers in advance.

I've got my first DOM which is Plant/Thorns to Lev23 and I took roots and really strggled with End problems as well I'd def but an end reduction in it pre stamina. The best advice I can offer is take seeds of confusion ASAP, (slot for confuse duration and recharge) in my opinion its the best power available and comes really early on. This will help you no end.

It's probably Roots if you're using it for AoE damage. And do get Seeds next, it's the cornerstone of any Plant build and one of best powers in the game. It will probably help with your end trouble too as the mobs do damage to each other so battles don't last as long.

Thanks guys. I'm mostly teaming with a Robots/Dark MM and a Dark/Ice Corruptor currently, so I'm pretty much using Roots to keep as many people as far away from us as possible - we're all quite squishy! Will definitely make room for an endurance reduction on it now.

Was really torn between Seeds and Spore Burst, but opted for Spore Burst because of the thing about not getting XP for confused people. How does that work then? Do you get XP proportional to how much damage you did personally (i.e. if I cause 50% of the damage to a spod, but the other 50% is done by his confused spod mates, I get 50% XP)?

[/ QUOTE ]No, the formula is (your (the whole team) damage dealt on the foe)/(all damage dealt on the foe). This chart shows some approximate figures, with A being damage you do, and B the total damage the foe takes:

A.....B
0.....0
10....31
20....50
25....57
30....63
40....73
50....80
60....86
70....90
75....92
80....94
90....97
100...100

Seeing as confuse powers considerably up your DoT (Damage over time), while only slightly reducing the XP/Foe, you get higher XPOT (XP over time).

Further reading on the subject here. (The guide is old, and things like ED have come after it, but it still mostly holds true)

EDIT: After re-reading my post, I notice it's full of errors The A is the persentage of damage you do, and B is the persentage of the total potential XP you get. I really shouldn't post when I'm tired

Confusion increases XP over time according to some pretty indepth calculations about it.

Basically, the more damage you do to the mobs yourself, the more XP you get. But the equation is heavily on players' favour so that if you do any damage at all to them you'll get most of the XP. On my plants dom, I like to use Seeds and then directly follow with Fling Thorns (since they're both cones so I'm already positioned right). That basically quarantees me a bulk of the XP. Seeds is a much, much better power than Spore Burst, which is easily skippable, if useful at times. A Plant dom without Seeds will have a lot of trouble with lack of control.

Fantastic - it'll be my level 10 power without a doubt! Thanks for all the help guys.

personally i dont find seeds the most important power in a plant dom, there are other moves i consider more vital than confusion, but they are later on.
(although i havent played my plant dom much since she hit 40 a while ago)

Any dom with access to Seeds and AoEs has to take both. We've been doing the all-dom team for a couple of weeks and it is a scarily good combination.

Wow, what do you consider more important and why? An easily permable AoE control that mitigates 100% of the damage of the affected mobs and even helps you to defeat them faster is pretty hard to beat, although I do love my Carrion Creepers too.

My Plant/Thorns Dom is sitting at 38 right now, thanks to Seeds of Confusion. This power makes you unstoppable, making you capable of taking down +3 enemies easily, negates the damage dealt to you, makes your enemies die alot faster, recharge fast and all this at level 8!

I find Seeds of Confusion as important as Strangler (hold), after your 40 levels with a Plant/ Dom, I'm surprised you don't find this power the most important? Sure, Carrion Creepers are nice but if you'd have to choose between the two, which one would you choose?

Well, I'm glad that everyone's so passionate about this power - I'm certainly converted to the cause! Any tips on how to slot it (hopefully I'll be level 10 and picking it soon!)

I got it slotted with 2 accs, 2 confuse durations and 2 recharges, but that's just my own personal reference, the mobs don't need too much confuse duration, but I'm not sure if just 1 duration enhancement is enough. If it is, I'd go with 1 duration, 2 acc and 3 rechg.

Before you get DOs, you don't need to slot this heavily, I started out with 2 TO Accuracies, when I got to near DO levels I put a bit more slots, and those were recharge, then I finally put some durations in it.

Confuse is great as is such a "high priority" aggro sponge. Confused enemies pretty much HAVE to attack each other and seeing as in my experience pretty much nothing in CoV holds aggro better than a plant Dom. Seeds is perfect "Aggro-b-gone" (I'm not sure if Taunt trumps Confuse as I've never seen a Brute with Taunt).

Carrion Creepers is another great power for eliminating unwanted aggro as enemies seem to want to take out creepers BEFORE attacking you although I find it much better for occupying an unagressive mob rather than sucking aggro from a mob thats already attacking.

I stopped playing my plant/thorn at 33 because I was convinced that seeds would get nerfed and I didn't want to get too attached. (That and I don't like CoV much)

It's simply the best control power in the game imo. Giant cone, good recharge speed, hits bosses with domination. As soon as you have access to Aim and have 3 recharge SO's in that then switch your seeds to 3 confuse, 3 recharge.

Aim -> Seeds -> Fling Thorns = ridiculous. You are guaranteed 1/3 of the XP of every mob. Set your sights high and go for giant spawns of reds/purples. Let them kill each other off, you only have to do 10% damage.

Rikti guardians are my favourite mobs. If you make sure that you get in close right after seeds then they give you AM.

If they add plant control to CoH then I'll be all over it in a heartbeat.

Arrrrrrrghhhhh! Delete it, delete it, don't give them ideas ! I am attached! No seperation anxiety please!

Seeds' is an absolutley fantastic power .

I don't have Fling Thorns, as I really like Skewer a whole lot. There's so much good stuff in Plant/Thorns it makes for quite a tight build to fit all the fun bits you want in.

How does Fling Thorns rate, and what slotting do people use on it? I'd probably want to go 2 X Accuracy, 3 X Damage (Acc' for a bit of PvP)? But my build is so tight on choices and slots as I enjoy so much of what's on offer.

I do have Impale, which perhaps could be dropped?...but I love the - components in it, and do intend to do some recreational PvP with the character.

I'd never make a decision between Seeds' and Carrion Creepers, take them both !

Glad to see someone having a lot of fun with a Dominator anyway, and enjoying Plant/Thorns especially .
