Elec/Stone Build?

I am looking for a PvE build. Something that will do well solo, but not be marginalised on large teams. I especially wand something that is good against AVs in the later parts of the game. What I have been reading so far would suggest that Stone Armour is best for survivability, and Electricity Melee is good for AoE damage and have some side effects that will be nice against AVs.

I am not looking for specific builds but more for advice on how the sets play in general and how useful that will be in SF and Respect missions. As for PvP, just being able to get Shiva's from BB and maybe get some nukes as part of a team in WB would be enough for me.

I don't think EleM has any good side effects against AVs. KD won't work most of the time, End drain is meaningless unless you have Power sink and someone else with end drain and -recov powers, and Sleep... well...

While decent AoE, EleM has very poor ST damage.

If you're looking at something with good survivability, good AoE and "good against AV", I'd suggest Fire/stone or SS/Stone.

Fire/ has better AoE damage and ST damage than Elec.
SS/ has way better ST damage, Rage (so you can slot only 1 acc in your attacks and have one more slot for rech/endred - very useful with Granite), and decent AoE damage.

I don't see any Brute secondary effect that does good against AVs , except the occasionnal disorient from EM when the triangles go down. If you want to be useful against AVs, high ST damage is all you should need (eventually Taunt if you want to tank the Recluse SF, but you can tank it without with a decent team).

I'm sorry to derail your thread, but I'm afraid you could be disappointed to find your best attack takes a year and a half to recharge while in Granite.

Don't take stone armor, really. You'll suck outside of granite, and in it killin anything takes ages.

Got to agree with Max here. Stone is really lacking as a Brute secondary IMHO and Granite with the -speed and -recharge seems completely counter to what being a brute is all about.

Must say, saying a powerset sucks is a bit OTT, as I have 6 brutes and must say the top two I enjoy the most are my Stone/Stone and my Energy/Energy.

The first time I arrived at the Brickstown mayhem mish was my favorite, had just reached 35, yes I know not long ago, and saw all those Psi cops, and had minerals running, nice moment.

Out of all the brutes I have I would have to say the the stone armoured one is the most self reliant, and the most fun one to play, and they do not suck outside or inside granite form. When you can take on a red EB Solo and win,(thanks the inspiration bossess of luck) it says to me that this armour does not suck.

Elec needs to be hastened I think, from the RV event and two test builds, Granite would totally cripple its minimal AoE damage (cause the attacks cycle slow already) and its single target isn't that hot. I really wouldn't try it myself, but then I made fire/DA so I might not be the best person to listen too

you guys DO know there are more powers in the stone set apart from granite?

I can most of the times happily go 1 on 1 with an AV/EB with just rock armor, stone skin, rooted and maybe minerals running, so wouldnt say /stone "sucks". The ones who suck are the ones who run around in perma-GA thinking they are a tank

Anyway, gotta agree with the general consensus that elec/stone prolly isnt the best combo especially for the purpose you stated. Think you might be bit better off with /DA or /inv as they got nice resistance off the bat, but dont cripple your recharge. And for fighting AV/EBs, you want single target moves and prolly not the AoE heavy elec set.

If you really want /stone, I'd go with fire, SS or maybe energy primary. If you really want elec/ primary, I'd go with /inv or /DA secondary. Doesnt mean I hate my stone/stone he does remarkably well against EB/AVs WITHOUT granite (still got it as a "oh [censored]!" button though ).

"god, how many devs did hami have to sleep with to get ED?"

My brute is a SS/stone, only 22 but planning to make him kinda the same as my tanker. Just herd up a nice group, let fury build up and hit Rage, footstomp slotted for fastrecharge and i'm happy

With you on that OMG button for Granite Nefarious, it's very useful against those longbow ballistas.

Had a battle against one last night and he was an EB, and he must have been on steroids, had burn't up all but my last 2 respites and CaB's and still only got him down to half health. So I switched to Granite, thinking to do a fighting withdrawl, but ended up staying. The amount of damage he was doing to me plummeted, as his attacks are based on smashing and energy, and if the figures I have worked out since are anything to go by (that's if the prima download is to be believed lol), I worked out that against smashing I had around 87% res running(Stone Skin, Tough & Granite) and against Energy I had 58% res (Granite), I was regenerating at about 273% and had defence of 18% against all his attacks. Yes my damage and attack rate had gone down, but endurance had ceased to be a problem, fewer attacks going off and less damage going out from reduced attack rate and damage, but he went down in the end. It was funny seeing myself actually heal naturally in the fight.

Yes it took longer than if I had exited the mission, picked up more insp and come back, but then again, in a party situation this character probably would have been happy to tank whilst the others did more damage safe in the knowledge that the Balista was contained, and probably the closest villans have to a stand in tank in the game.

Whilst Stone may not get the "uber" god modes of other sets, which incidentally only last 3 mins then have an OMG I'm toast feeling (thank heavens for new flashing icons), it does have the sustainable role of a demi "uber" and can run and run. Plus if you team with a /kin then the worlds your oyster, but that's just the icing on the cake.

I think the point that I was trying to make is that Brutes operate with the same mentality as Blaster or Scrappers in that the best form of defence is to kill your opponent as quickly as you possibly can therefore offsetting the need for uber-defenses.

Granite is still has the highest resists of any armour in the game for a brute which is unquestionable. I however would prefer to not have the -speed and -recharge penalties and concentrate on damage output by having a nice, balance attack chain.

Stone clearly isn't pants, I just believe that it doesn't really fit as well into the concept of being a brute as some of the other armours.

But what you can do is sit in granite, build up fury (you do need taunt), then once its built up, turn it off and release AoE hell.

If you can't tell from my description above I am new to Granite armour, my brute is now lvl 39, going on 40, but I do have 2-3 alts worth of stone armour experiance.

Stone Armour is a versatile set, which enables you to get defence or resistance against ALL types of attacks, addmitadely Toxic comes from Earths Embrace.

It's very forgiving I find, and from experiance when grouping I have found that I tend to do better than a lot of my Brute Counterparts when teaming, and even pre Granite was taking the role of Alpha taker, and more often than not surviving, heck , only got the Punch Drunk badge at lvl 37, and have been playing on ruthless since I got DO's.

Stone melee's attack chain is full of nice knock backs holds and disorients, so has boxing I picked up to get tough, which combines nicely with Stone Skin and Granite.

Most missions i solo comprise me mainly rushing around hitting rooted on approach to mob and piling on in in rock with crystal and minerals running if required, smashing all things to bits in a mad frenzy, the first fight in a mish is the worst and takes the longest as your cold, then moving onto the next mob and so on.

The only instance i have found Granite to be more useful so far is those annoying Longbow Elite Boss Balistas and forcefield throwers, seems to ignore the defence completly, but I still only put the Granite on after I've thwacked him about a bit, but those guys hit hard, but I think those elec armour guys with there 40% res to smash and "uber"% res to energy will have their number.

Anyway, the Stone set I believe is a well rounded set, and the Granite is the last situational armour in the set, useful in those non Psi OMG situations. I love my Stone/Stone Brute, and among all of the (6 in all) he's my favourite, and seems to survive better than the others, wether this is pure chance I'll never know.

As soon as he turned on Granite Armour Boom. I was dead.
