I got a lvl 33 corruptor and I was thinking of keeping a break from him and making a dominator, but what is soloing a dominator like compared to corruptor?
I was thinking gravity/ice dominator, because I love gravity and ice attacks are pretty good aswell.
Is dominator any good when soloing or maybe even harder to solo than corruptor?

Dominators are very hard to solo. Certainly harder than most corruptor builds.

Seconded, but very rewarding to play solo when you get it right and can cry DOOOOOMINATION!!! across your chat channels.

My ice/ice was horrible to solo at low levels because of endurance problems. It's easy now that I have the pet and the level 35 and 38 attacks, though, as long as I don't try to solo AV -> EBs since they have AV mez protection.

Grav/ice might be easier to solo though because you'll get much more damage from my primary and while Ice/ gets better control, it's not really needed as much when soloing, what the small spawns.

My plant/thorn and fire/fire seem to solo a lot better out of the box.

The short while I tried my grav/NRG dom at L40 I could solo fine. However, the damage isn't that great, takes a while to kill stuff.

Dominators can solo, and Plant Control is one of the easiest sets to learn on due to the handy soft control option at level. 8 (Seeds of Confusion)
On early levels when being on big teams you *might* feel yourself worthless until Domination, due to the number of enemies. AoE soft control gets really handy in these situations though.

Gravity Control is being disrespected due to the intangibility power, (Dimension Shift) but it's really good. Takes half of the mobs away from the game for a moment, giving a breather to your team, making it an excellent panic button.
Ice Assault can be really endurance heavy, but it offers the second best, if not the best DPS. Also when coming with Power Boost, you can control things for a long time.

To get a good hang of it, I think you should take a look on

They are becoming my fave COV AT despite my lack of enthusiasm with controllers. I play mind/nrg and think of doms as blappers with control powers, blast away till they are tied up, then pounce on them and start hammering away..ahem. I tried gravity a few days back (grav/ice in fact) and its a bit different from the other sets, I dont believe its the gimped set its made out to be though and would be powerful in the right hands.

It is powerful, in a team. Solo if anything escapes lockdown for a second you are dead.

Dominators are huge fun, my grav/energy is great fun, especially with the new physics effects.

They're quite like a weak controller and a weak blaster combined. However, once you hit that domination button you become as powerful as (if not more powerful than) both for a short while. Huge fun!

Can't wait until I get total focus!

My dom is only lvl 14 (outdated sig) but when I hit dom the amount of damage he can deal is insane I'm saving my reds till my bar fills up now and it works very well.
I still need more AoE to actually survive the aggro I generate, but that one Firebreath dealing ticks of 21 damage at lvl 8 was beautifull

Hi there

Here talking a guy who likes dominators, got 1 almost deceased at lvl38 grav/psi (gotta test a bit now in i7) and a lvl19 fire/fire, more like my main toon actually.

IMHO, dominators are easier (sometimes) than corrs to solo, at least the ones i have done, mainly beacause the corrs i think are more 'team friendly' (for ppl, and for their sets) than doms. In fact, I think the corrs develop their real power in teams, not the same (necessary) with the doms.

Why i feel they are easier? Well, u need to learn to play as dominator, but I usually have managed some missions without being hit, just becouse the mitigation in the doms is to avoid the dmg. In the corrs side, the way to survive is to minimize the dmg (not nullify it, see the difference) and maybe take some heals.

The problem with the doms is this: 1 error = faceplant. When u are higher u could solve this error, and maybe manage it taking hits, but if u play correctly, u just dont be hit (and that is awesome).

DefUser was a bit lack of dmg, and sincerely i have got many times problems, but when i grabb my pet, it was just relentless solo paper mishs as fast as i could...

Then i decided to play a fire/fire. She is lvl19 and its all much easier, it has much dmg (FE + DOMINATION is much more dmg than much other powers i have), and I think this gonna be much more easier when i take my little 3 imps...

U want an advice bout playing solo? go fire/fire and u will not regret it. Play it wisely and turn ur dominator in a killing machine. Play it poorly and be prepared to make a thread in this forums saying doms are gimped...

Thats what i feel.

Peace.
