PvP blaster- suggestions?
Whoops...my bad. Tis what i meant.
Was checking out shiver at the time i wrote this!

Web grenade has a built in slow. Acrobatics can be overcome like most mes protection, but its still increases your surviability. As i said melee attacks are situational. Slotting tp foe that much is a waste of slots imo. Break frees can be used up, hold res worthless? it can still res a blaster hold. Hover can be effected by -fly. It isn't a different proposition dude, web grenade has a slow with it, its also available with caltrops, so it isn't a different proposition. I really can't be bothered quoting by quoting the whole post again, but i think you need to look at the powers and the situation more closely. I really think with the methods your proposing against good PvPers your going to have a hard time getting those results, but i could be totally wrong i have a scrapper levelling on union, so will soon find out
[/ QUOTE ]
good luck getting me on caltrops as soon as you hit me with that webnade i will be running for the hills with ss, and your little webgranade wont counter my ss.

uh yes it will, it has built in slow, meaning you won't be moving nearly as fast. Great opportunity for a TP Foe when needed(straight onto caltrops), or just some Ice blasts to increase the slowing effect and do damage. In any case you won't be moving as fast as usual, so it will be easy to catch you, especially in the zones as you won't be able to jump over even the smallest of obstacles.
i'll be moving slower, but not slow, im still able to run.
keeping in relation to the OP, /ice is a poor choice of secondary for zone, duel and team pvp, /dev is a poor choice for teams and not a great one for duels, in zones it has its uses.
acrobatics is great against the ranged and melee holds, but as Kronos says its stunnable. personally i found its greatest use was against the single hold blsaters who dont try to stack (cos some people just dont get it), and //dark mastery scrappers who have but one hold. 13 extra insps is a lot in my book.
jaunt initializers (tp) should be kept to hand for these events imo
imo most /dev blasters are AR/, so even if they do get me on a caltrops/nade patch, what are they going to do : / (lol on this one ok)
chilling embrace, any blaster who PvPs will have at least 2 heavy melees and probably make u poo your pants if you get close enough for CE, at least I would do my best
and with regard to "most enemies are chasing you" or somesuch, I find most enemies are doing anything BUT chasing me, watching a regen scuttle off with no end and SS on is one of the most boring things I can think of, sometimes i wish I had the web nade and caltrops
anyways, post getting a bit repetitive now

No it doesnt. Word. Test it. (unless I've been fooled with the sirens temp power web grenade..) At least the sirens temp power web grenades did nothing to stop me from escaping, although SSing away in sirens without jump requires a bit skill..
But tp foe into caltrops is a good tactic, followed by web grenade again.
to the OP. Don't mind all these babbling PvP addicts They've all giving you some good examples of a good blaster build. Its really hard to go wrong with a blaster though. Be original and have fun and best luck to ya I'm sure you'll find your way!

Hi there, my copy if City of Heroes is on it's way ^^. I would like to play a PvP Blaster. Is there any good/preferred build going on? I would really like to know it if there is on ^_~.
I would be very thankful if you help me with this one ^_~..
Thanks in advance!

Yet i found extremely boring to play one.
Suprised there is so much bashing of /Elec, when teamed with Ice primary.
Energy the default choice? Why? Power Boost - increase slow effects of ice primary? Why? SJ ignores them. Boost Range? Ice is a relatively short range primary, lacking snipe. If your going with Energy or Elec 2ndary, you'd be more than likely hovering around melee range anyway.
Elec 2ndary has a hold at lvl 38. Meaning you can open with Shocking grasp and drop freeze ray and get past other squishies mez prot (acro). Bitter freeze ray is pointless in PvP. It gets me killed too much.
Energy/Elec are on par with each other. */Energy is a default choice because its 'uber'. Not sure many are actually putting thought into it these days though.

Personally i don't think it is - i've done pretty well in PvP zones with it...duels against something else might be quite a bit different - but the zone experience is a good jumping off point.

Fine against blasters (those that don't try and stack that is), but poop up against trolls and dominators.

[/ QUOTE ] Frozen Fists and Ice Sword come to mind. They aren't quite as 'heavy hitting' as CB/HP or EP/BS but they do have a very nice slow component which when combined with CE means you aren't moving much.

Heh. That's you though...which reminds me, how do you manage to drain so much endurance?

No i think they're bashing Elec Primary and Ice secondary. Ice/Elec is a very good combo, no question about it.

[/ QUOTE ]
True, SJ will give you movement when slowed, but SJ does not protect you from the -recharge effect. Ice powers will affect your "tempo" in PVP. Your powers will recharge slower, meaning you won't be attacking as fast, or healing as fast etc... . Combining this with Powerboost is a powerful combo. You'll need Speedboost from a Kinetic to properly protect you from slows.

[/ QUOTE ]
I don't understand why people say that Ice is short range. Because it doesn't have a snipe? Screw that. Bitter Ice blast has at least double the range of Blaze or any other blaster heavy hitter(Shout, Power Burst), except for snipes, and it's not interruptable with superfast animation. Combo that with Boost range and you'll be hitting it from very far away indeed. I'd say that if you take in the basic attack chain of all blaster attacks, excluding snipes(because with the slow animation they aren't really part of a chain) Ice actually hits from farthest away. Bitter Ice blast is the only Blaster heavy hitter that can hit far away enough to actually be able to fight a Stormie or Bubbler with a proper attack chain.

It depends a lot on how you want to play really. Both have their benefits. So far I've mostly been playing /nrg secondary because of my playstyle, but Electric can work at least just as well. I'd say Fire/Elec could be a very nasty combo, because with the Elec secondary, you give it some mezzing power and you get better End recovery than with Nrg secondary, which comes in handy with the heavy end drain of Fire attacks. You don't get boost range though .
power boost does a lot more than just increase slows...
and i really want to face a pentad team with /dev, most pentad matches im web grenaded half the match as all 5 chuck 25 web grenades on me and i'm yet to die from it while a /nrg blaster chases me with the scrapper and tank, without a damagin blaster chasing me i'd be laughing, but then our team has very effective team work with a kin
power boost, boost all your secondary effect such as defense. heal, hold time, disorient duration, flight speed, run speed, slows and so on.
In keeping with what the OP actually asked for...
I play an Elec/Energy blaster which I PvP with most, and regardless of anything else stated above, it's FUN to play, which is the main thing for me
Hi, I'm the OP :P. I'm a real newb to the whole Blaster class, so I don't understand shorts for skills like "CE" and such ;P.
I just want to be able to deal massive demage. I want to be one of the guys that stands back, is able to flee if being chased and deals very good demage. So basically, I want a ranged demaging build which has a hold effect or two in it... Is it possible? :P

sounds like you're describing ice primary there
however, a blaster that isnt using his secondary powers in PvP isnt living up to its full potential.
"god, how many devs did hami have to sleep with to get ED?"
Total Cat @Stagefright
I think I will pick Ice/ somthing, what do you guys say? And what would you suggest as my secondary?
Or maybe Elec/? I don't know what to choose ... Elec/ has more useful skills, but Ice has got Bitter Ice Blast- which has a very high amount of demage! Elec has 1 hold, and Ice has 2 holds (and one of them is really crappy and nearly unusable). Elec has snipe, while Ice doesn't. Ice's attack have slow, Elec's have -end.
Grrr! I can't decide!! >_<
And about the secondary; /Elec seems nice... I think I will go with Elec/Elec. Elec/'s Tesla Cage lasts longer, and has the same recharge/cost. The only negative Elec/'s hold has compared to Ice/'s is the animation time. Ice's is 1sec, while Elec/'s 2.17secs :s. Now that I think of it, nearly all of Elec/'s attacks take twice as long to cast as Ice/'s. I think I will pick Elec/- the primaries seem nearly equaly powerful, but I already have an Ice/ character, so I think that I will try something new...
What do you suggest to add to Elec/ as the secondary? Is /Elec good? I like the end drain, I have to admit. Leaving tiny corruptors powers >:}
P.s.
I don't think that I will take /Energy, because I think a blaster that's trying to melee is.. well... funny. Blasters are really squishy, so to be in melee range, when those evil scrappers can hurt us? I say not :{...
Well if you want the whole PvP thing but don't want to take Energy secondary, i'd say Elec/elec as it seems you're leaning that way anywho
Check out BindW/Plight's posts about the subject as he can truely pwn (It's true, seen it with my own eyesies I have)

/energy has boost range - makes you even more of a 'blaster' so to speak - no need to slot for range in your primary. You don't 'have' to take the melee attack powers.
If u plan to be an exclusively ranged blaster id go for fire/energy, but u wont have holds that way. Quick animations and best snipe in the game tho, uber when combined with boost range+bu+aim.
Elec/'s animations are not as quick as other primaries, but it makes up with a nasty end drain and mez.
Ice has quick anims, a cpl of holds and -speed -rech debuffs that are quite handy. Con is its range is not as good as others
My view of a ranged Blaster is hovering/standing near the fight and shooting away, ready to SJ and fly away if the bad guys are coming for ya . I think Elec/Elec will indeed be my choice here.
Any suggestions about an Elec/Elec PvP build? This question is specially addressed to Plight, as I know that he's an experienced Elec/Elec blaster .

Fire/anything isn't PVP build, due to high-end AoE powers. AoE aren't needed in PVP, and fire has no secondary effect. Ice slows people down.
it also has the highest dmg snipe and blaze
[/ QUOTE ]
fire/energy is very good in pvp, i didnt think so till i made one, lvled him to lvl 30 now and i was suprised about the single target damage output of fire, as i thought it was a mainly AoE set,but seriously, dont under estimate fire
Nother good thing about fire and it's aoes is the mastermind pet dropping capabilities.

Oh, and web'nade has -regen not slow
[/ QUOTE ]
Wait, what? Web Grenade has never had -regen in it. It has -recharge and -speed.
