1. I only use it againt masterminds in PvP. Most of which do not have KB res. Its one way around bodyguard and one time you will be happy about the duration of Blizzard because it is hilarious to watch.
2. Infact Mesmer, my appologies. You are correct. Did some maths.

50% Damage Insp->Aim->BU->Blizzard outperforms 50% Damage Insp->Aim->BU->Inferno

Long winded maths here:

BU+AIM+Blizzard is THE most damaging nuke in the game

[/ QUOTE ]

This is simply false. It MIGHT be true if you gained the damage buff for the entire duration of the nuke, but you don't. So an instant damage nuke with aim+build up will always outdamage a DoT nuke with aim+build up.

[/ QUOTE ]

Want to check the normalised damage scalars and get back to me on that one?

Blizzard. Damage - 7.45 Accuracy - 2
Inferno. Damage - 4.875 Accuracy - 1.4

It is not simply false. Its fact. BU+AIM works for about 9seconds of the duration, true enough, but the for the unbuffed portion, you are still talking about a nuke that is over 40% more damaging unbuffed. Compare 2 fulcrum shifted nukes and then Blizzard is clearly, unquestionably, the most damaging.

Any nuke that can kill freaks twice in 1 application gets my vote. Kill, rez, kill ftw.

[ QUOTE ]
The only advantage of Blizzard over other nukes is that it's not affected by AoE limits.

[/ QUOTE ]

... and that is just the icing on a very nice cake.
4. Blizzard is king. Ive only ever died once from its use, because the fear effect from ice storm (used prior to stop things running out of blizzard) and the hefty knockdown from blizzard basically stops anything hurting me.

BU+AIM+Blizzard is THE most damaging nuke in the game and It isn't hard to tap into the full damage provided by the nuke.

Of course. YMMV.

FYI - even tho this is a scrapper board, Ice storm 2 slotted for slow is enough to keep mobs within its effect for its entire duration. Unless they are flying or have slow res. Powerboost may allow you to achieve this with less slots, but what you described is available to ANY ice blaster.

[/ QUOTE ]

Rofl. 6 slotted ice storm = 4 slotted ice storm in terms of dps by those logics.

[/ QUOTE ]

What?

Ice storm for a none */energy , 3/3 Damage Slow

is just as good as:

Ice storm for a */energy with PB. 3 Damage.

Anyone ever slot Ice Storm for Accuracy? No - thought not. (base acc of 2 accd to nofuture)

So, point being, you dont need */energy to make the aforementioned 'monster' aoe.

Well faced with a power choice at 35, and not having experienced any major end issues, its more of a question of, why take it? When you can tap into previously missed attacks or add some survivability from the pools. Just didnt have a major end problem.

Show me the build!!!!

Ive been playing with the build of one of these. Not primarily for PvP, but I dont doubt it would be PvP viable.

I can get Aid other / Aid Self in by 38, but I cannot get a travel power in before 49. Thats fine, i dont need one for PvE, but it does suck a little around Sirens on my Claws/SR. Sure im running as fast as unslotted fly, but with no vertical.

Anyway. Im finding Claws pretty good for PvP. Its commonly regarded as low damage, but with follow up and the quick recharge you can be out DPSing some of the more classic high damage sets, like BS. The lack of build up does make it more difficult, but like I say, im still finding it pretty good. Especially with super reflexes.

[/ QUOTE ]

There you go, clearly you dont need all the HOs or 6 slotted endurance but I would keep the same powers in a none HO build and in that order (post 30 that is, clearly you cant play to 26 with one attack )

Yeah, I like the build. Im trying to put together a build I can use on the way to 50, which is where I am struggling a little.

Meh, another toon without travel power. I can live with that, especially with bases and Pocket D.
8. Ran an Ice Elec to 50 without powersink. With Fly, with stealth/invis, with epic armour and sometimes running snow storm too. No real issues. Trick is for PvE, slotting your 5th enchancement in your damage powers as an end reducer. I used to solo in PvE a lot, well up to about 30ish. I do remember having to use rest quite often, and this was way back in I3 when rest was on a big timer. However, i minced missions without bottoming endurance too much. Minions drop in 2 hits generally, Bitter Ice Blast and Charged Brawl, or Havoc Punch and Ice Blast. 3rd Target gets Ice bold and Bitter Ice Blast when its back up. 3 dead minions. No endurance problems.

I havent yet respecced to PvP, pending completion of a few more TFs, badges etc. However, I doubt endurance is a concern at all here. What I cant kill in a BU/AIM window would probably require me to kite a little, in which case I wouldnt be using the end heavy melee attacks too much.

I was going to post, questioning the merits of Powersink for PvP, maybe I can do it here? If i drop it from the PvP build, i can fit in some other goodies, such as TP foe for annoying BGing MMs... Is powersink usable in PvP? Anyone know?

It depends on what you want your scrapper to do.

If you want the best build for a team, the best scrapper is...

An Ice Tank or a /Energy Blaster

[/ QUOTE ]...except that /elec is more damaging than /NRG...

[/ QUOTE ]

Wrong Max, nrg is better. And in PvP it simply doesnt have more damage. Only n00bs take a full melee chain and nrg has much better utility, powerboost, boost range, conserve power.

[/ QUOTE ]NRG is less damaging, due to the fact that elec has more damaging powers. Also, power sink owns conserve. Depending on primary, shocking grasp can be more useful than power boost.

They're both good sets, and in PvP /NRG tends to have the advantage. However, I was merely stating that /elec is more damaging, which it is.

[/ QUOTE ]

So your reason to say elec has more damage is because it has the melee hold? You need to look at the complete set when you talk about damage, what about ice storm working with nrg because powerboost slows the crap out the the mobs in the storm?, so you get 1 monster AoE, where it doesnt work with ice / elec unless your on a team with good aggro control.
Just FYI hero builders numbers are wrong about nrg, its set too low.
After seeing both builds, I am of the opinion ice / nrg has more damage in PvE if you spec for it. Believe me you can make a superb AoE build with Ice because of powerboosted slows which elec does not have.

[/ QUOTE ]

FYI - even tho this is a scrapper board, Ice storm 2 slotted for slow is enough to keep mobs within its effect for its entire duration. Unless they are flying or have slow res. Powerboost may allow you to achieve this with less slots, but what you described is available to ANY ice blaster.

Word of warning to the OP. I'd rate a Katana or Broadsword / Super Reflexes as a tough build. Not just tough for beginners, but tough for everyone. Super reflexes has the potential to be gimp if its not slotted correctly and you miss out certain powers. This imo makes getting a travel power and stamina quite tough. As stamina wins out on the priority board every time, it means i have to relegate travel power to very late in the build, which probably isnt the way to go as a new player.

I think, if you are trying to learn the game and enjoy it first time through, /regen would be the best 2ndary.

Take whatever primary you like. They all do damage in portions and some swop out damage on some attacks for utility in the form of stuns, fears, self heals etc. Pick one that excites you and fits your costume or concept plans. And, enjoy!
10. Oh, and welcome back Flea!

Been playing my Claws/SR a lot recently. I never played Claws or SR before i7, but im very very impressed with this combo in PvE and im enjoying elements of PvP too. Ive never played a none squishy so much before and i think i went from none squishy, right to the top of scrapper survivability because this guy is last man standing most of the time and soloing on invincible without even drawing breath. Bit too easy tbh.

Hope you enjoy your return.

Eviscerate is teh uber, if it's anything like Ripper. If you want AoE, go spines!

[/ QUOTE ]

Not really, the animation is horribly long and it actually decreases your DPS. The damage is hardly any higher than Focus either.

[/ QUOTE ]

I find that you cannot rely soley on Focus for decent damage. I think eviscerate is wonderful. I regularly catch 3 mobs in its Cone and its great in boss fights when you cen perma knockdown a mob with Focus / shockwave and rip them with Evis. Dont forget, it has a slightly improved chance to crit too. In PvP, if you didnt take Eviscerate, you'd barely be tickling people.

13. The Fish Food

When unintentionally, someone lands precisely where they shouldnt and are jumped by a LOT of players, hungry for the extra rep. Often happens when a confident stalker is striding amongst a group of heros, waiting for the opportune moment to strike, when someone sees him and lights him up. Ganked for sure.

When i respec, I'd kill you!

Cant say this one has been aimed at me before, but a popular one I see is when someone uses a power on someone else, that the recipient could have taken in their build, but it is now somehow unfair for the user to be using the power. (follow me? Thought not). E.g, Fight me without your holds! I respecced out of mine!

The yoyos.

Toons that come out of the safe zone, get smacked to 10% health and run back to drone safety. Repeat ad nauseum.
14. Rant.

I was absolutely steaming last night when myself and flames shed blood, sweat and tears (admittedly, tears of laughter) over a pillbox, first clearing out a mastermind with a heavy and his full array of pets, whilst taking damage from 4 turrets. Then taking the turrets 1 by one, resting in between due to the hefty damage coming in. Then killing the returning MM again. Finally killing the last turret....

... Oh whats this. A level 47 Kinetics defender jumping in at the last minute and clicking the pill box. I was mad. Had they helped take the pillbox? NO. Not one bit. Not even slightly. Did they say sorry? Did they admit fault when challenged? Is this unacceptable behaviour in anyone elses view or is it just me who gets mad about it? Having had the 'Risk vs Reward' ideal hammered into us by States so many times already, the current way Pillbox captures work seems ludicrous!

That behaviour was worse in my view than the common behaviour of camping the pillbox clickies while other heros do the hard work. At least if someone is camping the clicky, you can just stop killing the turrets.

All for badges... Really, this makes me mad. Really mad. Maybe it shouldnt but it does. The current system promotes behaviour like this, so I really hope its possible for the pillboxes to be captured by those that have done the highest percentage of damage to the pillbox or something.

I wont even get onto the badge hunters who have been 'commanding' RV AV bashing sessions... from the 'dead and can't be arsed to rez and help' position. Grrr. If you want the badges people, please respect the fact that you might have to work for them. Please also respect the fact that some people will be in RV for PvP, shock horror, and might not take kindly to constant BC spammage of 'EVERYONE ATTACK <insert name of Signature AV that needs twice as many heros than are in the zone>'

/rant.
15. Im far too much of a conspiracy theorist to completely deny the existance of womble spoons or whatever you want to call them. Maybe worth having a poke around Monster Island in PI. Or anywhere else that seems pointless for that matter.

The point is, a womble spoon isnt required. Just get 3 x 8 man teams of trollers, with a decent mix of secondaries, tending towards rad and kin, 2 stone tanks, 5 empaths and 1 full team of damagers and you are laughing every time.

Dont forget, the end encounter needs no skill, its organisation. Organisation isnt easy with a community that is unwilling to listen, read guides and follow on the fly instruction. Secret raids organised by, for example, Union Overlords would pwn hami every time. No question.

You dont even need the damange component, thats just being polite. With containment and lingering rad you could systematically hammer all the mitos and hamidon himself with 3 teams of trollers. Whats more, the server would be running at full speed and you wouldnt be lagging.

Womble spoons are not needed so much, sure its an interesting debate, but the key is in getting the right people at the blob without the noise of 60 other poorly dressed heros without half a clue turning up.

None of this is anybody's fault but the devs btw. As i said after the first raid, when half the people didnt get a Hamio etc. Why the heck is the only end game encounter requiring more than 1 team so broken?
16. Good try all. God the servers suck and I think we contributed to the heatwave in Germany by a couple of degrees at least.

Firstly;

[ QUOTE ]
Not clearing mitos is too advanced a tactic for inexperienced hami raiders which the majority were. I would only attempt a heal blanket with a dedicated Hami squad who all knew what they were doing.

[/ QUOTE ]

QFT imo. I know you have done it before. But one way to reduce the lag when trying to take hamidon is to not require a healing blanket and 5-6 tanks. Instead, take the mitos down and have only trollers and kins in the bubble holding hamidon once all mitos are down. (Dual purpose of killing mitos is also team work and giving people something to do) After he is held, then and only then would I send more in to hurt him.

Last night there were well over 60 people in melee range of hamidon at all times. On a quick check of vanguard duration, i reckong we were getting 1 minute of game time for every 6-7 minutes of real time.

Also - as mentioned, i saw Hami pretty much perma immobilised. (when he showed up!! grrr) So until it can be guarenteed that he isnt being immobilised by US, using Containment as the indicator isnt going to work?

FWIW Hami will go down next when it isnt organised on this forum. Point being, there are literally hundreds of 50s now, and when the thread is up for over a month your going to get a whole raft of people turning up, and a good proportion of those will be going on 2nd hand information. Which leads to costume issues, incorrect power spammage etc.

Lets face it, the servers are not going to get any better. To beat the lag, something completely different must be tried.

Just my 2 cents I guess.
17. Often its difficult to supply advice to people on the boards, as you never know how much they already know. There is a whole degree of 'basic understanding' which is assumed by most when replying to requests for advice. I assumed you might know this basic understanding when I replied. If you dont know, then maybe we can go back to basics and talk through it again. Understand I am not trying to be insulting. Just want to avoid confusion!

Sorry, i dont know about Dark Secondary, no experience. Consider looking in the scrapper forum for some of the most mature understanding of the powers, since its been around there since day one. Check the player guides section, and click on Bridger's Sticky at the top, and follow the link to the US Players Guide of Guides. Then search for brute and scrapper guides about DA, of which im sure there will be plenty. You want an i6 or i7 guide if there is one. A quick search of my own, picked up these:

http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showf...part=1#4121476

and from the scrapper guides forum;

http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showf...part=1#3645148

Beware that one, its issue 5, not sure of big changes since then.
18. There are a few good guides on the american forum. The best one I have linked at the bottom. Im sure youve seen it already.

The key to being annoying in PvP is cycling your Fear as often as possible. It has the highest ToHitDeBuff with the longest duration. -20% ACC for 20 Seconds base. It also has a high base accuracy of 90%. So, a 2/2/2 with Accuracy, Recharge and ToHitDeBuff is the key. Lets not forget the fear effect itself.

I never said PvPing with this character would be easy. Theoretically the key is picking long fights. You can stack your fear 3 times with the above template for -60% Acc, BASE. Slotted its about -100% ACC. Then you have your own self heal from the primary to cycle in. Sure its a small one, but its all adding to sustainable damage. I'm not suprised you have most luck vs tanks. The build is designed for a long fight. I'd have thought you are abest suited to taking down Tanks, Scrappers and other brutes with this. Not sure against someone with huge burst damage that this would be nice.

With regard to getting your accuracy debuffed? Not sure i follow you, everyone is subject to being accuracy debuffed? Commonly for a PvP build you are going to need at least 1 more accuracy in your attacks. Sorry if you knew this already.

PvP is never 'easy' even with a FoTM cookie cutter. (I must assume as I havent got one). Your playing a none cookie cutter in a PvP environment, so as I have said many times, should you get some success, then you should be pretty satisfied!

Forgive my theoretical musings.

http://boards.cityofvillains.com/sho...part=1#5030780
19. I activated you account for you, and removed the email confirmation until i can get it working. You should be good to go now.

Edge, i activated your Silent Edge account, not your edge one. use this to log in.

Later.
20. Hmm, im noticing that anyone who has applied for an account since the Email confirmation was put in place, hasnt posted yet. Is that because the email confirmation isnt arriving? In which case its clearly broken as it should be pretty much instantaneous.
21. Ill be sat in the Rad group doing apparently not a lot. Should you be short of holdy goodness, i can switch on Choking cloud and get tight with hami and with the recharge bonus flying about, can probably almost perma EMP. So, ill be there, just in a different team.

Oh, got vanguard and powerbuild up, so the EMP will be good for well over a minutes duration, probably in the region of 1min 30seconds ish.
22. Hello everyone!

Recently I established a new forum for my close buddies on the game. The concept was to have somewhere to organise events, socials and chat, but also combine SG forums under one place. Indeed the European CoH forums work for this to a high degree. Just sometimes when you want to host private events it becomes difficult to communicate. The other aspect of the forum, is that at the moment we are all playing CoH, but having established really good relationships with a lot of people in the game, the forum is designed to keep everyone talking, even when people are unable to play the game, or have moved on.

Anyway. The forum is up, you can find it here, and its open to everyone, (predominately Union, but no reason why other servers cannot join)

http://www.ride-gs.com/union/

I welcome you all to join and find out what we are getting up to. I also invite SG leaders to establish your own SG forum here also, should you not have one already. Leaders would be granted moderator status and you would be repsonsible for the upkeep of their respective sub-forum in a 'use it (cleanly) or lose it' way. Infact, not only SGs! Want to discuss roleplaying there? No problem, a forum is but a 2 minute admin set up away.

The forum has been up for 3 days now, so forgive the lack of activity for the time being, we've been testing a few styles and set ups. I am also working on a number of private groups for those that require them. Im hoping in a few weeks time it will be full of planned events. The key advantage to the Board is that posts remain Editable. Should complex plans like Hami - Raids need tweaking etc, and sign up lists, these can be done in a tidy and organised manner.

Anyway. The service is free should you wish to use it. If you would like any services added to the board, please register on the board and send me a PM.

In summary, the Forum Is:

An unofficial CoH comunication tool
A place for SGs to establish their own forum
A place to organise TF's, SF's, Trials, XP teams, Alt Sessions, Hami-Raids, Recluse SF's,
Potentially a place to organise PvP sessions/events. (im still undecided about this one, since PvP generally attracts 'heated' debate.)

The Forum Is Not

A replacement for the wealth of player information on the EU official boards, (inc Guides, Strategies)
A reliable source for official CoH information
A place to come and flame when your posts have been deleted here by Bridger!

I appreciate its treading on Cooler's toes a bit, who is responsible for the Supergroup hub which an already established and excellent resource, so you should check that out too, here; http://uk.boards.cityofheroes.com/sh...Number=115672. All im saying, is that this service is available, like many others, should you choose to use it.

Chap.
23. I started a Dark/Fire brute some time back, and enjoyed him for a good few levels. I did plenty of reading around about PvP viability too. Seems as tho Dark/* can be very annoying, but I wont want to praise it too much, because on paper it does have enough goign for it to become the next FoTM in my view.

Why?

-ACC!!!

Infact with a fast cycling touch of fear, its theoretically possible to reach over -100% Accuracy in the first 15 seconds of a fight and apparently max out at about -160%.

I dont like shadow maul as a brute power. It has to be said. The cone aspect to it I like, the animation time I do not.

My Dark/Fire is an endurance nightmare though. I do plan to get Dark Consumption and Consume though, which should provide enough for a stamina-less build i hope.

Rad/Elec

Indeed. I love power push. That IS predictable knockback that would work in this situation. I just love it in PvP as well, for knocking a MM way outside his Bodyguard cozyness!
