yeah so fire, fought fire/nrg the other week, won about 9-1 (the owner is a pretty darn good pvper actually imo), once u get past BFs then ice/ elec/ and sonic/ are really the only valid primaries (AR/ if you have stun powers).

top few imo are gonna be something like

ice energy
elec energy
ice elec
elec elec

epics wise, nothing is worth considering other than force or elec.

Plight

P.S. i laugh at blazing bolt, highest damage snipe means nothing unless its used to set u up for a 1 shot kill

[/ QUOTE ]

ice is good but high smash damage...fire does more damage against most people with res

My view of a ranged Blaster is hovering/standing near the fight and shooting away, ready to SJ and fly away if the bad guys are coming for ya . I think Elec/Elec will indeed be my choice here.

Any suggestions about an Elec/Elec PvP build? This question is specially addressed to Plight, as I know that he's an experienced Elec/Elec blaster .

you're gonna be hitting for ages if you try to take down a foe solo form range :P

From the few times I've had Plight use me to clean up the floor with my face, I've seen him not using the ranged much. He's fully capable of blasting when he needs to, but elec/elec does it's big damage up close. Runs in, smashes me, and then he uses a ranged attack to finish off.

The Elec primary has one of the most useful moves in the game (short circuit) as a close range move. If you don't want to ever go near someone, you'll be wasting your -recovery powers, and a hell of a lot of damage.

Alright, then I might change my tactics, now ^^. I never played a meleeing character! Maybe this is my chance ^_~.

P.s.
Also, this may sounds really newbish, but- what exactly is a "blapper"? ;P

Blaster/scrapper. Blaster who plays all melee with no or no ranged ability. See also blanker, a blaster who tanks, blanktroller, a blaster who tanks and controls, etc etc you get the idea

All commonly known as faceplanters for their incredible powers of staying at 0 health and on the floor

brief EDIT: ranged dmg in pvp isnt that bad either, squishies will fall to it, amd no blasters can take down a melee AT solely with range dmg unless, imo, the melee AT build is poorly thought out

totally disagree with the last quoted post, whilst elec doesnt have the ST dmg of fire or ice, it still does far more than it really needs to .

hate to say it but at heroic, which is where i expect a new/average player to play at:- aim, build up, zapp (1 minion dead), ball lightning, charged bolts (swap target), lightning bolt (2 minions dead, 2nd minion u actually target dies from DoT, 3 minions dead). by this time you have CH back up and a stack of melee, not to mention a pet at 26. so assuming you face 3 minions your laughing really, throw in a lt - tesla cage him and laugh some more. throw a boss in and you're looking at just short circuiting right from the word go.

P.S. Elec pwns u all and quite blatantly has the best all round utility and AoE control in PvE.

P.P.S. your talking about ranged damage? elec has the only ranged nuke worth having. on the same note, and similar to what seri was saying, elec is not entirely a ranged set as a theme/playstyle, whilst using the methods above you could mop up a mob in a solo mission without blinking, when it comes to loner fights and doing greater dmg, you want to be in there. SC is the key to all melee control for elec, and understanding when to be in melee, when to blast or joust, when to open with SC or a hold, or just to plough through are all things you will learn. failing that, you will die plenty, you have to understand your toon and build to play well when you have next to no hit points : /. also, know what KBs in elec, as useful as it is, at the wrong time you own KB can ruin you : /

I don't think that I will take /Energy, because I think a blaster that's trying to melee is.. well... funny. Blasters are really squishy, so to be in melee range, when those evil scrappers can hurt us? I say not :{...

Just another point along this thought, i found up to about lvl 35, that i was safer playing blappery style. You're nearer the tanks taunt aura and in an age dominated by Kin defenders and */Kin trollers, you pick up the green glow more often. At 35+ im finding AoE is busting my balls a bit, and hence im playing a little bit more ranged.

The biggest point is, to play PvP you have to achieve certain level PvE. So, i guess its a lucky few who can say they have a fully optimised PvP/PvE build. Joust is specced PvE and it shows when i poke my head in SC / Warburg. At 50, i have to chop and change quite a bit to put him into pure PvP and semi capable PvE. But playing a PvP build with joust, for 50 levels would have slowed me down a lot.

The most exciting thing about CoH is when you arrive at a concept that no-one else has thought of. Asking here for advice is great, but it does tend to put the blinkers on a bit. I have to consider the powersets and what the do in detail without biased opinion. I think there are some real PvP gems to still be found, including 1 or 2 from the Blaster sets. Happy hunting.

I was waiting for some comment on that!
Still, the idiom implied holds true.
And i'm not saying I like sausage!

For High lvl pvp, i find energy energy good, boost range helps. it doubles the distances of you attacks!

Posted

energy primary isnt that great, no high damage powers to shout about and only KB as a secondary effect (resisted totally by acrobatics). energy secondary i'm all for though

Plight

Posted

Plight. I suggest you try Power Push from energy Primary. This is NOT resisted by acro. This isnt even resisted by Brutes and Stalkers mez resist. This power alone has the ability to meter out a decent ranged kill zone for a blaster.

Hell, on Chaplain, im keeping Stalkers permanently on their butts, and before they get up, they have a interrupt reduced snipe hitting them in the face.

I think Eng primary could be the best ranged PvP primary for this reason alone.

Ah i also meant top point out that energy is massively resisted (i think energy blast does smashing too, which is also resisted. my blaster has like 20 and 30% res to these). while some of the powers will cut through, i don't really notice it when fighting 'PvP specced' energy blasters. imo a blaster primary should offer good ranged control and damage and i don't really see energy doing this.

not meaning to say it's poo, but in zones and arena it's always energy manipulation that gets me, not blast, even some guy in warburg who was dive bombing and sniping me wasn't having any success whereas if he had just run up and bashed me I would have died :/.

ice/, elec/ and sonic/ ftw!

Plight

P.S. Can we have a duel then?

Posted

Energy isnt actually *that* commonly resisted. Only one of the defender epic shields has energy res for instance. Also, Sonic is energy / smashing iirc, so its in the same boat. Electricity must be Energy also? I dont often see Energy blasters taking power push. I'll tell you now, if more did, Energy blast would get a LOT more fans. Fine you can resist 30% of the damage. However they have a ranged knockback that will eat any KB resistance you can muster, bar a stupid amount of clear minds. They can get a free shot in while your flying through the air.

Of course, not YOU personally. Just saying, there are ways to work Energy primary and its ranged single target damage and its pearl, Power Push, can offer something no other blaster primary can, and thats control vs high mez protection.

Disclaimer - need someone to test power push from a blaster primary. On my Defender 2ndary, it easts mez resist, but unclear is Defender get high mag 2ndary effects than blaster primary.

Plight, of course you know that electric powers count as energy damage
