As most ppl probably have seen there is a major PvP event going down on test starting tomorrow and going until friday.
i thought that i would take my time to ask about some of the toons i've thought about testing out there....

so far i've thought about the following;
Scrapper Katana/DA
Tanker Ice/Energy
Tanker Invu/Axe
Blaster Nrg/Nrg

Are these sets actually any good for PvPing?
wont be posting any builds, just looking for the general point of view

I'd say they're all viable. Just depends on what you want to bring to the PvP zone, support or lay some smack down.

was thinking of making a lay-up that can support the situation depending on how things turn in the zone. will probably start out with scrapping and if things start going bad i can switch to tanking, maybe even defending..

i will, gonna bring them all on depending on the current situation in the zone. just wondering how these particular sets work in pvp.. have also been thinking about takin a regen in there, not sure about the primary though. BS is kinda nice..

if ur gonna be solo go BS, if ur gonna be coordinating attacks in a team go Spines

not really sure how that will be never know where i end up, hehe..

Have also come to the great idea of a bubble defender
Being able to give those defenses in PvP must be nice especially since it has an PBAoE def buff against mezzes. thoughts?

At first glance, none of the builds are what I'd really call the PvP 'uber' builds

- DA doesn't have the survivability of regen

- The NRG/NRG blaster 'may' have taken a big hit with toggle dropping. Guess this will show us that (unless you are planning on actually playing a blaster as a blaster instead of a blapper, which will be groundbreaking )

- Axe is probably not a great set for PvP on a tank. Tanks aren't expected to pump out damage but Axe has particularly slow animation and very high end cost. I've seen some axe builds work VERY well due to their damage output but they're one that does take practice to PvP with due to the end and animation issues, something you'll not really get in the limited time span of the event unless you've already got one on live.

Of course, this is all taken with a pinch of salt as you have no idea what's going to turn up on the night because of the nature of the event.

Personally, I'll be straight back to live if I walk into RV and see katana/regen, spine/regen, storm defenders, stalkers and blappers making up the majority of the population.

I'd much rather see a few more experimental builds turn up(looking at a dark stalker myself with the presence pool for fear overload)

I have a lvl 20 bubble defender that I've recently started PvP'ing with but so far he only has PFF and Force Bolt from the FF set so I don't know how well the 2 small bubbles and dispersion bubble work out. I can tell you however that repeatedly using Force Bolt on stalkers and brutes who don't have knockback protection is one of the most fun things you can do in PvP. Making a big bad brute turn tail and run from a defender is very satisfying

Ice/Nrg tank is pretty damn Uber. Hard to kill and aggro magnet. Also, it can hit damn hard when needed.

Please tell me about this event as this is the first time I hear about this..?

EDIT: MEh, nevermind

/nrg blasters never got kills from tanks and scrappers when fighting good players so it has made little difference, has barely affected team play, just means a blaster cant fight 1v1s with tanks and scrappers that are res based.

and a /nrg blaster that doesnt use melee is like an empath not using heals

i'd say DA makes a good PvP (looking from a "numeric" PoV)
since it has the "sneakyness" of CoD and the AoE "hold" of CoF, and having the fighting pool carries it a bit further.

when we're talking about the nrg/nrg blaster i've found it working in PvP earlier (had one a while back) only hessitation is that the opponents will be much higher than in BB and SC

the other points youve made are fairly true, but then again, its just for fun

Axe is a great choice before epics(armour). But it doesnt quite have the burst damage of nrg, but it can bring more damage damage fast if your target doesnt move.

Well, you probably just talked another player into taking regen over another set as it is .

Unfortunatley, as I've used the test repec up already trying some tweaks to my current build, so I'll be there with my own Spines/Regen, using the level up facility to try some further tweaking stuff . I'll add that's in addition to several corruptor sets I want to try & the unashamedly, very very FoTM and fun elec/elec brute I'll try too .

Nice idea with the stalker. Been thinking about the fear pool in that combination myself .

well, technically, no you wont, youll have to make a new toon wich will be lvld to 40 when you logg it on...

Yup, & building a Spines/Regen with the other arrangements of pools & powers I want to try before commiting to the free respec live .

I'll be making a spines/regen, mostly to see what would have been if I'd have stuck with the one I made a year ago, plus I'd like at least one toon that can take some kind of beating, controllers just aren't built that way
