Fire/kin melee concept

i was thinking how cool it would be is there was a melee corrupter (or short range) that could dish out massive damage form close up but also bnifit from the buffs of kenetic line e g. transfusion. I thought about fire kin for the huge damage but does anybody ahve any ideas which primary would be the best for this.

Which set would be good for huge damage combined with Kinetics? Short answer? Any :P

Long answer, I'd say go either fire or energy. Fire has it's AoEs a bit earlier, but I think Energy gets just as many as fire and does damage in one blow instead of DoT (usefull for killing stuff FAST). Mind you, the knockbacks in the energy attacks make effective AoEing a challenge.

If you are going the melee /kin concept you should consider:

a)Kin has very low damage mitigation(light years from /dark,/cold,/rad)
b)Melee damage > ranged damage for mobs
c)You are squishy

Those ones put together makes your concept difficult to solo so I guees you need the primary that gives u more defense: Ice.

I'd say Ice (for the extra control), Fire (for the AoEs) or Sonic (an early strong short-range attack and the sleep/disorients which could work well with the /kin powers). I'm pretty sure you don't want too much knockback when you're trying to use Transfusion/Transference/Fulcrum.

CoX 50s: <ill/rad> <ice/ice> <fire/kin> <grav/sonic> <ice/storm> <earth/kin> <kin/elec> <cold/psy> <thugs/dark> <fire/dark> <dark/elec> <night widow> <EM/ninj> <mind/icy>

Also worth noting that Blappers are possible in CoH as the blaster secondaries include some high damage melee moves. For a Corruptor, the same principle just does not apply.

Kinetics is one of the more difficult sets to play for a Corruptor as many of the moves are AoE aggro magnets and it takes a bit more skill in aggro management for a kin than it would for a /thermal or /ice.

No high powered melee attacks and a lot of aggro generating kinetic moves seems like a recipe for disaster in trying to make a melee based Corruptor. The main thing to consider is not that 'Melee blasters work in CoH' but instead 'Do melee defenders work in CoH?'

Well I tend to stay close to melee with my fire/kin. Blaze has so short a range that it's nearly melee, and I need to be there anyway so that both me and the brutes get the full benefits of kinetics. Fire/kin is of course a bit of a glass cannon and you really need someone that can hold aggro to be fully effective, but once you have that you can very well hang around melee and those teams are blindingly effective. AoEs can be a bit of a problem , though, and picking up Acrobatics is a very good idea.

Yup, I too stay in melee range simply because I want my own fulcrum to hit me. (more damage = faster kills = less incoming damage) On top of that, if I want to heal myself, I need a foe close. I'd go as far as saying that a /kin is actually safer in melee/semi-melee range.

I'm a bit confused about this discussion: by definition a /kin has to be in melee right??? Transfusion, Transference and Fulcrum anyone?

CoX 50s: <ill/rad> <ice/ice> <fire/kin> <grav/sonic> <ice/storm> <earth/kin> <kin/elec> <cold/psy> <thugs/dark> <fire/dark> <dark/elec> <night widow> <EM/ninj> <mind/icy>

Maybe I am too. I've not taken this as a discussion about the range on a kin but more a request on how to make it more blapper like?

Go man go! Fulcrum shifted inferno for the overkill! This is going to be my next character as well.

Looks like a decent final build to me.I like it.

Anyway,i should look to slot end reducers on attacks before dmg and changing it later.

The 10-24 road was gonna be a constant end problem and the 24-35 a real hell once you stack Siphon Speed + Hasten.
Those and the AOE's is like you're a lighter: you burn 10-15 sc,everybody is dead and you got to rest because youve burned your whole stamina on 10-15 sc(real funny ).You'll level real fast this way anyhow.

Nothing Transference cant solve at 35 but you know what they say:"The more a star shines the less time it shines"(so lets shine muaaahahahha! )

my freind has decided hes gunna create a brute to team up with this guy what do you lot think would be the best brute powersets to team with my corruptor. I was thinking elec fa

Posted

I team mine with a fire/fire and a few stone/stones and they both work really well. Stone brutes are particularly happy about speed boost. Some kind of taunt aura is pretty essential.

Posted

Yes a granite brute with speed boost IS scary.

I teamed with a fire/fire brute, with fulcrum shift and all the aoe attack going on, herding at its best.

Well your fulcrum shift will give the brute loads of damage. This works best when he does lots of area damage. So I'd say Fiery Melee, and get Fire Sword Circle especially. Fire Sword Circle + Fulcrum Shift = like a blaster nuke (or like your own inferno) without the end drop.

As others have mentioned, /stone brutes biggest weakness is a lack of speed. Your speed boost solves that, so go for Stone secondary.
So get a Fire/Stone basically. When teamed with a /kin, these guys are just SCARY lol. By lvl 38+ they can't be killed, and nothing survives more then 1 or 2 blows :P
