Illu/Kine or Illu/Rad for a new player
[ QUOTE ]
Hi guys,
I have read a lot of guides on controllers and decided that will probably be my main. I am not sure which of the 2 following specs is the most newcomer friendly; either Illu/Kine or Illu/Rad.
Any tips or hints are highly appreciated.
Cheers.

Without going too much into details, I would say that ill/rad might be slightly easier for a new player because some kinetic powers take a while to get used to. It also depends if you plan to solo or team a lot: for teams, kin is arguably better because of the various buffs, while rad is generally a safer set, so nice for soloing. Both are great combos in any case, so enjoy!
CoX 50s: <ill/rad> <ice/ice> <fire/kin> <grav/sonic> <ice/storm> <earth/kin> <kin/elec> <cold/psy> <thugs/dark> <fire/dark> <dark/elec> <night widow> <EM/ninj> <mind/icy>
I think Kinetics is more newbie friendly, there are more 'fun' powers in there. Neither is worse than the other, what I especially like about Kin is it can sustain itself forever with Heals and End buffs.
Rad is wtfpwnage for soloing, though, but that requires slotting and other garbage that a new player could pass.

I think Rad works better with Illusion. Your Decoys benefit from debuffed enemies but can't be buffed themselves. Illusion doesn't have AOE Containment inducing powers so Fulc > Fireball at 41+ isn't as powerful as with other Controller sets and Rad adds two more hard control powers to your arsenal via Choking Cloud and EMP Pulse.
Also the Illusion pet does knockback and Kinetics doesn't work well with Knockback.

Well there's still Flash, right?
Edit: oh and Hobo, try to get a lvl 2 new player to run towards the mob for Transfusion... The debuff anchor thing might take a bit of practice, but imho it's probably easier to follow slotting tips from a guide than to make effective use of Transference/Fulcrum if it's your 1st toon.

Yep but its PBAOE, slow to recharge and really its not worth it compared to the other sets and their immobilse / sleep AOEs.

Definitely Illusion's weak point, but some AoE containment is better than none. Not a big fan of Choking Cloud myself, but EM Pulse is certainly another good reason to go /rad.

I wouldn't expect them too, I see Transference as a power to just use if you're able (and in need obviously), telling someone to run towards a target for a heal would take far too long and is a waste of time even for the experienced playa.
And doing it solo is easy peasy.

Unless you have a bind for it, but no new player would.
Don't we all agree that Ill/Kin is playing CoH in easy mode?
So I'd say Ill/Rad even if ill/Kin pwnz harder
Ill rad deffo (what can i say, it's the top AT imo for PvE, and one of the best for PvP).
Ill kin is more active, ill rad is better in practise
Both are great, neither is particularly 'newcomer friendly'.
Rad works slightly better than kin in connection with Ill, is better at low levels (not everybody gets up to 35+, which is where /kin gets totally amazing). Both have minor issues but both are fun to play... I have one of each and I prefer my /Rad, but I solo quite a lot. If I was to team regularly I think /kin would get it.
Synaesthetix:if your mum wasn't already dead I would go kill her for bringing
you into the world
Both are good and either way you go you will have a nice toon.
Will say that ill/rad synergizes better than ill/kin beacuse of knockback imho though.

i found ill/rad a blast
in fact mate of mine did a toon exactly the same when i was out damaging his scrapper !!!
(think phantasm, phantom army and all the debuffs on a boss thats held)

This is practically word for word what a friend said to me the other night, which made me glad that I chose those power sets.
I have a troller with the kinetics secondary, but the radiation set is so useful for its debuffs and having your army of pets that take no damage (if I understand correctly), it just makes my mouth water thinking about when I pick up my later powers (he's only lvl 15 at the mo ).
