OK you need to convince me, why a scrapper?

Personally, I find scrappers boring and kinda weak, but after teaming a bs/inv scrapper a little while ago.. O_O
He outdamaged me, now that kinda got me in the mood to make a scrapper, but it wasn't enough. Now I feel like making a scrapper but also I don't want to so I was hoping, can somebody maybe try to convince me to make one?
[/ QUOTE ]Won't have access to Co(H/V) today, but gimme a few days and I'll make a demo file to show how my Spines/regen herds, should be convincing
Why a scrapper?
Hmm... try soloing with any other AT and compare the results. Sure tanks can rival on survivability but scrappers will just carve their way through a mob at speeds tanks can only dream of. Being offence is usually the best defence scrappers tend to have the edge.
Add to that the fact that scrappers are melee oriented (short/mid ranged for a spines scrapper) making them better adapted for holding their own when opponents get within arms reach which is often the bane of most squishies.
A scrapper's life is pretty frenetic, there's no standing back and raining damage from on high or wittling from behind a sturdy defence. You have to get right in the thick of things and dish out some hefty hurt. Scrappers are also fairly graceful in their own way, just watch a martial arts scrapper for a while and you'll see what I mean.
It is always wise to charge.
I'd have to agree, none rival their melee damage, they're the most agressive melee attacker in CoH and on top of that they have critical hit, which just makes things even better for you.
There's nothing quite like landing three criticals in a row
Defiant 50s: Generalissimo, Righteous Bob, Splortch, Brutus Cayuga
Union 50's: Chimera Obscura, Diet Anthracite, Grim Proctologist, Puny Little Minion, Raging Bitumen
In Soviet Russia, mission farm you!
There is.. have Golden Dragonfly double crit when the cone effect kicks in. After Build Up
Or Soul Drain on a tank herded group on enemies followed by a well placed Shadow Maul cone... Orange numbers ftw!
Or as one of my teammates demonstrated last night being able to one-shot yellow minions with the Headsplitter + build up.
And I'm not even mentioning how fun dark armour is when you get into the 30s.
@Unthing ... Mostly on Union.
Inherent powers are another point in favour of scrappers. Where the tank gets to hold attention (essential for groups I'll grant) and blaster/defender inherent powers are pessimistic in outlook and situation, Critical Hit is always a possibility and contributes directly to a foe's demise.
Headsplitter double damage ya gotta love it

Max's one will suck compared to this.
World of Jackcraft.
A damage dealer who can look after himself how greats that, give me a scrapper over a blaster any day. Plus i think they are the easiest to lvl as there secondary set alows them to solo very wel.
I can only speak from a kat/regen point of view, since it's the only scrapper I've had - although I did get him to 50
But imho, survivability is off the chart. A tank may be tougher but he'll be pulling a lot more agro than the scrapper and not dishing out even half the damage.
I must admit, I'm a bit jaded of him now, since I got my PB - nuke half the room and switch to dwarf form to ride out the agro from the other half whilst the rest of the team mop up.
/em pauses to watch fire blasters turn green with envy
But if you want the job of taking out the most dangerous mob in the room and getting up close and personal to do it then a scapper is the AT for you.
BTW, watching a spines/SR scrapper herd whilst running elude is truly one of the marvels of the game.

Because I haven't had any downtime since about level 6?
I just love watching myself leap into the middle of a nasty crowd of maobs with my Claw/Inv guy, letting rip with Spin and Evis, then mopping up the rest. Gots to love those Crits!!
As for /Regen scrappers, well quick recovery just kicks down time right out the window, constant mauling of mobs is just too much fun to miss out on.
I have an L43 Katana/Regen and I consider him to be far and away my best/toughest toon all round. As far as I can make out he's not even an optimum build. Despite which he still has excellent sustained damage dealing capacity and, barring horrendous alpha strikes, his tremendous durability is well on par with my Invul/SS tank. Even after I scrankered my tank, my scrapper still totally outclasses him for damage output. Extremely self sufficient solo or teamed, he merrily slices his way through Invincible missions solo faster than any of my other alts could dream of. IMO 'weak' doesn't enter into it... boring? - well, I have to admit, he can be a little dull and repetitive at times. YMMV.
I've got a level 6 BS/SR scrapper on defiant, the accuracy is cripe, but the damage is the same as a blaster accept you have to get up close and personal to deal it. I am still not sure.
I am the Blaster, I have filled the role of Tank, Controller and Defender

Well try playing it to a decent level first, you cant judge a whole AT on 6 levels..
Broadsword accuracy is pretty good, it's equal to martial arts and katana, making them the three most accurate scrapper primaries.
There's a thread somewhere about misperceptions regarding accuracy. Because of Broadsword's slow swing time and recharge you tend to notice it more when you miss, compared to say claws or katana. You actually hit more often than you think you do. Of course if, like me, you hate missing ever then just double slot for accuracy when the opportunity presents itself.
Scrappers and Blasters are two completely different animals. Scrappers are designed to get up close and have the hit points and defences to do just that and survive. If a blaster were to try that then she/he would deader than Elvis.
Level six is a bit early to get a good impression, in my experience most scrappers take until the mid teens to truly get into their stride.
My Kat/Regen was a bit faceplanty until I got Integration at 16. After that it was 34 levels of smooth sailing.
Blasters tend to be great at early levels, scrappers mature a bit slower.

Well, it will be "cripe" you'll be running, at best a couple of TO accs enhan. In fact at the early lvls I ONLY run acc enhancements. Even at the later lvls I run 2 and 3 acc SOs since my regen scrapper tended to find himself facing +4/+5 mobs on a regular basis.

It's said before, but they are the best solo class out there we got enuff defences to keep us alive for quite a long time (not counting large teams). We are fast, furious and deal a load of damage.
I consider myself an light and fast melee combatent. I dart arround and kill... urr "arrest" the most troublesome mobs.
Why would I want to convince you to play a Scrapper? There are loads of Scrappers. Play a Defender or a Tanker.
I really should do something about this signature.

Good point! Scrappers are naff, you really, really, don't want to play one. Try a defender, defenders are cool, everyone loves defenders!

Agreed
I was the same as you, at first, wasn't sure of Scrappers.
My first char ever created was a BS/DA Scrapper. At about level 12 or so I abandoned him and started creating other Archetypes. It took a few months but i was back with my Scrapper. I just found the hectic nature of being in a crowd surrounded by enemies and swinging my broadsword around more appealing than firing from long range.
And at later levels it was great to see everyone panic and scream for clear mind when we meet psi groups. I simply clecked the button for my Obsidian Shield and charged in.
I recently gave my Scrapper a respec and he's even more fun now. I still go back and use him even though he hit 50 about a month ago.
PB/WS are fun but I think there will be another Scrapper in my future.
50's -
Scrappers - Xtream & Ouroboros Enforcer. Controllers - Vanguard Phoenix, Midnight Protector & Mythical Illusion. Tanks - Stone Cold Sober. Blasters - Ultimate Solution & Crey Prototype. Defenders - Lucifer - Bound. Peacebringers - Xtream Justice. Masterminds - Xtream Malfunction. SoA - Arachnid Lord
